Famous for its ties to American history, Alexandria today remains a popular city — not just for tourists but also for those who work for the government. Located southwest of Washington, D.C., the west end Alexandria neighborhood of Landmark/Van Dorn has become a culturally diverse place for commuters to live.
Landmark/Van Dorn sits 5 miles due west of the downtown Alexandria waterfront, making a walk along the Potomac River only 15 minutes away. With the neighborhood outside of Old Towne, the close Metro line makes going downtown simple, yet residents can enjoy their local parks and restaurants without the influx of tourists.
Known for its luxury car dealerships, high-end rentals in Cameron Station, parks and diverse grocery stores, Van Dorn benefits from being a part of a community that, with over 900 acres of protected open space and a commitment to be biker and pedestrian friendly, makes Alexandria well worth the investment to live in.

Property Ratings at South Port
If you are considering residing at Southport, be aware that there is a persistent issue with mice infestation. I have been a tenant since 2015 and throughout my tenancy, I have consistently encountered problems with mice entering my apartment from neighboring units. Despite reporting this issue to the management office, their response has been inadequate. They have not taken any effective measures to address the problem, leaving me with no choice but to hire an external pest control service at my own expense. Regrettably, the situation escalated to the point where my daughter and I were hospitalized, compelling me to terminate my lease two months before its natural expiry. Consequently, the management office imposed additional charges due to the early lease termination. I wish i can find way to uploads the pictures
I have been living at South Port for the past year, and I must say it has been an absolutely fantastic experience. From the moment I moved in, I felt like I was part of a welcoming and vibrant community. Here are some of the reasons why I love living here: Well-Maintained Facilities: The maintenance crew deserves a special shoutout. The common areas, the landscaping, and the amenities are always clean and well-kept. It's evident that they take pride in their work, and it makes a significant difference in the overall living experience. Safety and Security: Security is a top priority here. The security team is on it. We do live in NOVA so there is always going to be crime but the security team and local police really work together to provide a safer environment for me and my family. Amenities Galore: This apartment complex offers an impressive array of amenities, including a fitness center and pool. It's like having a resort right at your doorstep. These amenities have added immense value to my daily life. Convenient Location: The location of this apartment complex is ideal. It's close to major highways, shopping centers, and restaurants, making it easy to access everything I need. Yet, it's tucked away in a peaceful area, providing a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of NOVA. Responsive Maintenance: Whenever there has been a maintenance issue in my apartment, the maintenance team has been quick to resolve it. They are professional and skilled, and I've never had to worry about the quality of their work. In conclusion, I couldn't be happier with my decision to make this apartment my home. It's not just a place to live; it's a community that cares about its residents. If you're looking for a comfortable, secure, and welcoming place to call home, I highly recommend this apartment complex. It's been a wonderful experience, and I'm looking forward to many more years here!
I rented a large one bedroom with my cat. There is an easy commute to DC and free parking. The price is good.
like all apartment living you good an bad. been living here for 6 years the good out weigh the bad. the grounds are kept clean as much as staff can do. management an maintenance team are great when problems a rise. im now retired so I hate to leave but area pricing are getting crazy hign . great place to live .
I’ve been living here 2 months and I have been having issues since the day I moved in! The apartment was dirty, carpet was not properly installed so my kids were able to lift it up, I had to hire someone to come clean it. The appliances are not working properly or are damaged. You have to slam the doors for them to shut properly, toilets used to make so much noise all day and all night (fixed) the Floor have dents, and worst of it all is that I have really bad mice infestation and it sucks to know they were here before I even moved In because there were holes and I could see them at night 5 at a time even before I got any furniture. The office people give a smart attitude and still have done nothing to fix it. And parking for visitors sucks. This is from my personal experience. I’ve once was asked if I was to end my lease early and that there are mice anywhere you live and if I am the type of person who like their appliances perfect.

Every footsteps, everything...I mean everything including night things from upstairs are heard. This is the worst place to live, especially to sleep at night. Poor design, very poor engineering! Please don’t move in, don’t even think about it!

South Port all in all is a decent place to live. Friendly residents and atmosphere. Property Management could be a little bit of jerks when it comes to the kids outside playing though. Maintainence guy is a grade A jerk.
I've lived here for over 3 months and it is a nice area. They are pretty good about getting things fixed. Also they have good office hours. Sometimes they close at 3pm for some reason. Also, they have no automatic withdrawals for rent through the checking account. They had one and it was very bad.
We wanted to find a place in Alexandria City that was affordable, you only pay electricity and during the hot summer months that is coming out to 100 a month. It's a pet friendly place with a SUPER attentive office along with maintenance. I love the fact that I have loud neighbors but the windows and the balcony/patio window/door really blocks out sound so we're pretty good. We live in the bottom floor so when our upstairs neighbors get a little rowdy we can hear it but we don't hear footsteps nor talking which is important. The appliances work well and our fridge was being weird and they came out quickly to take a look. The space is nice and sure the paint they use for the wall has to be the cheapest one on the market but it's to be expected in apartment complexes. Night time security guard is always walking around to make sure the area is safe, that makes me feel better if I ever come home late or take out the trash. I'm liking where we live and so far so good!!
We moved back to Northern Virginia in August. After looking at apartments for over a month, we found and loved South Port. The staff was wonderful to work with, we loved the newly renovated apartments, large balconies and the park setting. We feel life at South Port provides us with the best of both worlds. We are close to everything we loved to do, metro bus stop is steps away and then we come home to relax on our balcony to enjoy trees, flowers and squirrels. So happy to say w life at South Port Apartments.
We have been here for a few months now and thoroughly enjoy living here. we've lived in a lot of bad apartments and really looked to find somewhere we would want to stay for a few years this time and so far South Port has been that place. very happy
