I recently had a very disappointing experience at this apartment complex. Within a short span of time, two of my bikes were stolen from the supposedly secure bike storage area. Despite reporting the thefts to management, there was no follow-up or effort to improve security measures. To make matters worse, my family just had a baby, and this added stress is the last thing we needed, and makes me wonder if it’s really safe and “secure” for my family and I. It’s clear that the safety and security of residents' belongings are not a priority here. I would not recommend this place to anyone who values their property and peace of mind. I WOULD NOT RECOMMENDED THIS COMPLEX

The overall vibe of the complex is great and of course amenities are a plus. Location location location! I’m loving alameda, particularly the neighborhood South Shore Apartments are in. Also, Jett has been a great help throughout the apartment seeking and move-in process!

We’ve been here a week, having moved across the country to be with family. From the beginning of our apartment search we quickly knew that South Shore would absolutely meet our needs. The Leasing staff did everything in their power to help us decide which apartment was right for us and to facilitate our leasing. Answers and actions were always prompt, taking some of the stress away from this monumental move and helping us be even more excited about living here. Now that we’ve moved in Resident Services has been super helpful as well. The amenities here are great and the location is amazing!

I rarely leave reviews but I feel compelled to help others so they don't make the mistake I did by moving here. I’m a current resident (hopefully not for much longer) and have been since February. I have regretted moving here from very early on. All you need to do is read the reviews provided by actual tenants. You will find many negative reviews and they are very accurate accounts of the situation here. I wish I would have done better due diligence. I will say my encounters with the staff have been very pleasant but unfortunately, they cannot make up for the very negative experience I’ve endured while living here. They market this as luxury living but it falls far short and the lackluster condition of the property, ongoing extremely loud construction, toxic debris (asbestos), crime, maintenance issues, and unusable/offline amenities are ALL consistently problematic, to say the least. As a tenant, there's constantly some issue that makes it impossible to have an enjoyable experience at the property. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. At this price point, there are far better options available in the area without the ongoing issues and they at least attempt to earn the premium they are charging.

Other than location, there is nothing positive to say. I’ve lived here 6 years. The management staff is unprofessional. Extreme delays in communication and claiming emails are bouncing back etc. I’ve personally had packages stolen from the delivery room. Their solution is to add another door and limit the hours of access to tenants. I’ve had my locked up bicycle stolen from the “secure”garage. I’ve personally waited months for repairs to my deck and window after the renovation. I’ve personally had mold and had to request multiple times for the same repairs because they don’t seem to be fixed correctly the first time. I’ve also had two tours to look at a new unit and the first tour, there was still someone living there and the second tour days later- the units were still being renovated. So, I did not experience the same ease and convenience and “great” tour that potential new tenants are receiving. Renter beware. Read the reviews of actual tenants about the actual property, not those 5 star tour reviews.

Crime: There are multiple car and bicycle thefts that happen here weekly. There is no security and the gate to the parking garages are constantly left open by management. The thefts happen regardless of if the gate was left open or not. Noise: There is constant contruction going on throughout the complex that will will be heard regardless of where your unit is. The construction will be continuing for years as they slowly renovated the units. You will also hear commercial airplanes at all hours since we are close to Oakland Airport. Also, the doors inside and leading into your apartment will be framed incorrectly which leads to gaps in the doors (no sound insulation) Safety: Regardless of if your unit is old or newly renovated, it will be made out of asbestos and your unit may contain lead paint. In addition to this, the buildings here are over 60 years old and are literally tipping over . My unit is slanted at a 6 degree angle. Amenities: Many of the amenities here are nice but many of them, including the entire clubhouse, can be rented out for a high hourly cost. This leads many residents frequently unable to use the facilities on the weekends. Some amenities like the work center aren’t even open to the public yet due to constant construction. My unit includes: - Slanted doors - Unleveled floor - Poorly insulated windows - Badly painted and chipped cabinets - Ants - Bad electrical wiring - Broken light switches - Rusted sink - Broken mirrors - Poor electrical heating - Damaged windows Funny tidbit: Management is currently trying to increase all tenants rent so that they can afford to continue renovations for other units. The funny part is they can’t legally do it. The city sent us all out a letter stating that management is in non compliance for failing to pay annual fees and cannot increase rent because of it.
The place has been under construction for almost a year now and its nonstop sounds of construction all throughout the day, then there's the construction workers who enter units without even knocking and some even catcalled me! No one in the office ever answers calls and management has never gotten back to my emails telling them about the issues in my building. This place floods, has mold, ceilings, collapse, its a mess We also had our catalytic converter stolen and our car broken into multiple times in the locked garage, security is a joke
Awful living situation due to construction project. Management messed up dates, timelines, everything was delayed and impacted tenants poorly. Trash, dust, and noise at all hours. Ant infestation in building E. Facility closures, water heater and water main shut offs and repairs. Nothing here worked well in the year I lived here. Would not recomend to anyone.
So disappointed in the South Shore management lately. They routinely ignore calls (and pretend not to get messages), treat residents rudely, spring "improvements" on you that require workers to enter your unit (sometimes without knocking), and are just generally awful to work with since Maximus took over. Not worth it.

Absolutely disgusted by this management company. Please read in entirety so you don't make the same mistake as we did. We should have known from the start on how poorly managed this complex was when it took several rewritten lease agreements to finally get the price, names and terms right... the first terms they promised. Unfortunately we wanted to stay in this complex. It had 4 pools, hot tub, gym, right next to the beach. We honestly loved living here. Just don't live in the first floor, we always had an ants along with flees. Anyway, we came in to the manager at the time, to ask about canceling our lease several months in, because we found a condo... we really liked a few streets over and wanted to make an offer. We went to the manager to discuss what the reproductions could be for canceling our lease. We did a full budget and with the terms she listed... my family/ finance/ and lender decided it would be a good deal. What we where told was "pro rated month and a full month of rent" (we even have a email) So what it came Down to was our pro- rated month and the two months or rent... What was written on a stick note... we didn't think of it much...we trusted that the manager wouldn't put us in a situation of paying $7,000. By the way they sent us to the creditors because they didn't have our address correct in their file... they couldn't call us one time or tell me in person. This is absolutely ridiculous because we crossed by multiply times to check about our bill. She even mentioned how she sees me all the time walking by the office. Anyway the new manager checks the file and finds a mistake... telling us we actually only owe around "5,800" instead... Then they informs us that is all we owe. Once again, this is not the number we had been quoted by the first manager. We are absolutely furious with the way we have been treated during this proses. We where promised a call from Mrs. White, to discuss further... all she has done is send us 2 emails about how they have concluded we owe them "5,800" and that's it... if we would like to discuss further we can make an appointment. Well we would love an appointment. Along with your general manager and investors. To discuss in detail about the facts. The previous manager also told the current manager that we didn't discuss with her about buying the house and breaking the lease. Just lies from this complex.
Under new management. Leasing company issues rental increases at $3 under 5% to avoid additional notice requirements. Sleazy and unprofessional. Props to the manager for putting up with my outburst over this, but this renewal process shows the new leasing agent doesn't care about providing fair notice for such high increases, they are just simply trying to weasel their way around the rules to make extra cash, all at the expense of the tenant. The additional notice requirements for increases are there not to put a burden on the landlord, but to allow the tenant time to decide whether or not they can actually afford the increase. This year, I can't afford the increase. If I had 60 days notice (decent thing to do) I probably would have left.
I have lived here for 3 years now and I really like it here. I lived in a one bedroom and now a two bedroom. it's spacious and if you live on the third floor you jave vaulted ceilings. it's also in a great location, right across the street from the beach!
We have a great 2 bed 2 bath apartment with nice, high ceilings and a lovely balcony overlooking the beach. We also have 2 large dogs. Outdated appliances, lackluster facility services and 10% annual rent raises take away from the property and may make it impossible for us to stay another rent cycle.
