Property Ratings at Southern Cross Apartments
Moved in 07/01/23 and from the moment I got here I could see that no one cared about this place. Trash is all strewn about the yards, the management is non responsive and rude when they are. I mistakenly signed a lease for the garage without having an inspection done before hand because there is rodents in there and no electricity for 75/month which is absolutely unacceptable. When I moved in the blinds were also broken in every bedroom, lots of trash is the hallways etc. Please stay away from these apartments, there is a reason why they are cheap and they honestly aren’t even that cheap, they should’ve been demolished long ago because I would even feel awful if this was a low income development.
Over priced with no amenities. Management is terrible. Let renters move in with no running water. Don’t fix maintenance issues. No grass in the yard. Just weeds and rocks. Parking is terrible. Cars sit in the parking lot for a year that don’t move. Place was not cleaned when we moved in. Had to have their cleaners come back and clean. I would never rent from this company even if they were the last option with the best deal.
Sure it's affordable. But there's a reason. Was told there would be washer/dryer hookups, found out on move-in day that our unit never got them installed. Took TWO YEARS for them to fix a leak in the master bath (there's still a hole in the wall where they had to remove mold and water damage from the leak existing for so long). Closet doors falling off their tracks. Crayon marks on every bedroom wall. Towel and curtain racks not screwed into the walls. Lots of mice. Hallways are always filled with garbage and missing ceiling tiles. Doors to the outside never locked and always propped open with rocks. Frequent flooding in the summer months in our first floor unit. Unsafe, unsanitary and definitely not up to code. Not to mention the shooting that took place in December! Finally moving out in a few months, glad to be rid of it.
Moved here from an older house. Nice layout for our family, sizeable rooms, good deck, two bathrooms, and good views of the Black Hills.
When applying for the particular apt, I was told that it had previously been low income but had been bought out by a company that was no longer allowing low income. That was a lie. Everything that was wrong and wrote on the move in checklist has not been repaired. I had to do the minor cleanup (lipstick all over the inside of the closets) myself. The management told me the apartment had been renovated but the kitchen cupboards were atrocious. A screen door was placed on my patio door do bad that it does not close all the way. Water leaked under my patio as it is uneven and the seals are shot which in turn made the hard wood floor start to bubble. A week and half ago, the maintenance staff dug up the area to the right of my patio and the pile of dirt is ony patio as I write this. Nothing has been done. The dryer in the first floor laundry has been inoperable for 2-3 months now and I was told by maintenance that it is not a priority at this time. This is not a complex I would recommend.
