One of Detroit's popular inner-ring suburbs, Southfield delivers a distinctly urban atmosphere uncommon to communities of its size. The city holds a place as one of the most important commercial centers in Lower Michigan – the large Southfield Town Center business complex (also known as the “Golden Triangle”) serves as the daily workplace for thousands and hosts conferences year-round. The community is popular for folks who work in the local business sector, but with downtown Detroit just fifteen miles away, Southfield is a convenient option for commuters as well.
The city offers extensive facilities for both indoor and outdoor sports from golf to ice hockey, giving folks ample opportunities to stay active year-round. The city’s art scene largely revolves around Park West Gallery, a first-rate venue that houses a diverse selection of exhibits and frequently hosts art auctions as well.

Property Ratings at The Addison at Southfield
Wasted almost an hour of my time going through a long application to see at the end, there is a ridiculous $175 application fee. They say the $100 is administrative fee non-refundable. And $75 the actual application fee. Both are non-refundable and are due before submitting the application. If they deny it for any reason, you basically lose $175. That they will pocket even without seeing you. Apply at your own risk!
They require a 6 0 day notice to leave, So i did so with about and 2 and half month notice. When it came to my final months rent, they tell me it was never filed and are trying to get another 2 months rent out of me
Management is terrible. Every review has been spot on and I should’ve read them all in detail before moving here. Everything they said has happened. Will never recommend to anyone. Run from this place!
Save yourself the headache and don’t even waste your time with this place. Terrible management. Very unprofessional. My apartment was filthy on my move in day. Wouldn’t recommend this place to my worse enemy!
This place has the worst care of service NOT worth the money appliances are old and when replaced they are replaced with another old one from their storage. My car was broken in right in the front parking lots. Oh management will not follow on any you don’t hunt them down over . NO security NO DOOR LOCKS ON MAIN DOORS . All apartments have central air and heat but with old furnaces and hot water heaters are old too if you move here just get maintenance to live with you because they will stay in your apartment more than you FACTS
If you're moving here I recommend at least getting a renovated apartment. When I first moved in the apartment, it was dirty and had maintenance workers' tools in the apartment along with wires out of the wall and broken door locks. The community is not gated, the gates stay open at all times. They say they have trash valet as a courtesy to residents but charge you $25 a month even if you wish to opt out of trash valet. If you have any handicapped family members be sure to live on the 1st floor because there are no elevators and floors go up to level 3. The one-bedroom apartment is small and is not worth the money in my opinion. There's no front door closet in the living area, no pantry for the kitchen, or linen closet for the bathroom. The walk-in closet in the bedroom is so narrow it makes it impossible to WALK IN without getting smacked by your clothes. If you looking for a safer area in general I wouldn't recommend this place because I was involved with suspicious activity while taking out my garbage one time. I also see police cars in the complex at least once a month!
no locks on building doors, rude office staff, inaccurate carport leasing records, slow to no maintenance response, unpicked up garbage left in the halls for days, badly stain hallway carpeting, uninspected fire extinguishers, drafty apartment door and windows, security gate was always broken. I contacted the city and the fire marshal. I am so glad I moved.
My experiences in the last 7 months 1. Leasing office doesn’t have a record of the assigned parking lots, it took them almost 2 months figure out a parking spot for me 2. One month into the apartment there was a leak in my kitchen sink 3. Dishwasher was draining through air gap 4. Hot water isn’t working 5. Water leaking from roof in bathroom 6. Electric stove stops working

Let’s start at the beginning, when I moved into my apartment it was so disgustingly dirty that it took a whole week of hard core cleaning to make it liveable. My heat works when it wants! Maintenance is aware but does nothing about it!!!! Assigned parking that you have to pay for, but people park in your spot anyways without any consequences, supposed to be towed!! And we used to have night time security at the entrance, but once they “fixed” the locked gaits they are no longer there! And speaking of the “locked” gait i have yet to see it in action at the appropriate times, the ONE time I saw it working was at 10 am?!?! They couldn’t pay me monthly to continue to live here!!! I am counting down my days to get out of this lease, that feels like a prison sentence!!!

I've been living here at Southfield apartments for about a year-and-a-half and up until the point when you guys acquired the new manager Jessica my experience has been terrible. Ever since she's been here she's going out of the way to satisfy me as a tenant. I have nothing but praise for her and thank you for bringing her on board. She respond within a reasonable time always no more month of waiting.

Thank you so much for the great review! We love having you as part of our Southfield family!
I have been a tenant at Southfield Apartments since October 2010, and I have always enjoyed living in my Apartment. The grounds are meticulously kept, and in pristine condition. My view from my balcony affords me a view of the Sunrise and Sunset each day, and that alone speaks for itself. Also, I have always had a great experience with needed Maintenance repairs in my unit. I will be honest enough to say that we have gone through some challenges with Management in the Office over the last decade/ However, I can say we have prevailed victoriously with a new Management that is very attentive to our needs, and also a very receptive Maintenance Staff, in spite of the challenges Southfield Apartments has faced along with other comparable Properties in the Area due to the Covid 19 Epedemic. I have always been able to get the service and repairs I need in a very reasonable amount of time. We are blessed to have a new Property Manager that comes to us with a wealth of experience in this industry, and I believe that will take is far in the Chapter for Southfield Apartments. Lastly, I am a single man occupying a one bedroom Apartment which is approximately 850 square feet, and it’s more than enough space for my needs. I have been very pleased with my neighbors, and the location of my Building. Another huge selling point is the fact the each unit has a washer and dryer inside of your individual Apartment. I was sold on moving here when I read the brochure that said “Southfield Apartments gives you the feeling that you’re tucked away on a Country road, but actually in the middle of a Major Metropolis” and that quote is very accurate. It is Centrally located, and every point of interest is a 15 minute drive in any direction. They also offer a beautiful Swimming Pool with Brand New Pool Furniture, and a Deck that affords you a view of a Great Lake with a Fountain in the middle of the Lake. I am so glad to be a tenant at this s property and I look forward to the next decade, and I also look forward to all the new improvements to the Property that will make Southfield Apartments even more attractive to the potential new tenants, and the faithful tenants that have enjoyed living on our beautiful Property. We are thrilled to have you as part of our community! Thank you for sharing your kind words with us. It means the world to us and to our entire team! We look forward to serving you further!
It’s the horror story we all dread with living in an apartment - unhelpful staff and an even more useless property management company. You have to constantly call to get in contact with someone and follow up continuously to get work done. Periodically random buildings shared hallway lighting will go out and residents are forced to enter their property in the dark regardless of their safety concerns. Door latches/locks are constantly stripped meaning anyone can enter. Shared hallways are filthy and never cleaned. They’ve just implemented valet trash which solves the overrun dumpster issue but with hallways never being checked, the smell of trash (that the valet trash team did not pick up due to the lights being out) wreaks in the hallways. The carpet is absolutely disgusting in the shared hallway and there also isn’t any heat so it gets extremely cold and drafty. The only reason i rated this place 2 stars is because of the location. It is over priced, the management company does nothing to upkeep the property and it is nearly impossible to get in contact with the leasing office. If you notice, when you call the property, there isn’t an option for residents with concerns. Bay shore properties has also removed their phone number from their site. I’d imagine it is because of the influx of calls they get from the current residents they neglect. I recommended a friend and even upon move in they were unsatisfied with the leasing office staff which is forever changing. Save yourself the headache - don’t move here.

I fell in love with these apartments from the start. First call was very welcoming and informative. Jennifer set a same day appointment. Upon arrival Jennifer greeted me, answer any and every question i had. After our tour she provided many different take home handouts to refer to later. I was extremely nervous about applying, however Jen made me feel at home already. I'm looking forward to my new home and very grateful for the help! Thank you Jen!!
This property is truly rated a 1.8. I’ve stayed here & read all the reviews & they are accurate especially about the large spiders, the multiple over run dumpsters, unclean shared hallway and forever changing nonchalant office staff. The apartments are very small with 1 closet and 1 small overhead cabinet in the bathroom for storage. The door you see between the living & dining area is your heating & cooling not an extra closet. In order to get anything done you have to constantly call and then just show up as the angry tenant and still wait. The rent here is ridiculous and if you ride through the parking lot you will see multiple vacant apartments due to them being over priced. I say pay a mortgage before moving here. I ultimately moved because of the constant power outages, leaking roof, nonchalant staff, over run dumpster, excessive rent, broken appliances and no updates.
I've lived here two years and management has been terrible. Maintenance never comes out to fix anything. Every appliance in my kitchen does not work properly and they have yet to come fix it. Very unorganized and the apartments are extremely overpriced!
I moved in about a month ago and it has been hell ever since. For the first week I didn't have working gas or hot water because they forgot to put the exhaust back on the water heater. It took 6 different calls and interactions with an indifferent staff that does not follow through and doesn't care. None of the apartment doors are fitted correctly and you have to yank them open. The buildings are never cleaned and have cobwebs, dirt and debris throughout. Do not move here.
Don't be fooled by the pretty pictures. Drive on the backside near the trash dumpster and see how it is thrown around and filled to capacity. The back roll of apartments had old mattresses and trash. And if evicted, there is no plan of action by the apartment. They literally set out the belongings and leave trash in front of your unit to blow and look like a projects for at least 5 days. To get things accomplished you have to constantly complain and almost feel like the bad guy when it takes you to your ultimate limit of frustration for the apartment to take a stand, that is, if they do take a stand. I remember after moving in and giving my list of issues with the unit, the office representative pretty much said, that is why the rent is sooooo low. And apparently she is right, because nothing on that list, that needed repair, has been addressed. I guess it was there documentation that the unit was "DAMAGED" prior to the tenant moving in. You definitely pay for what you DON'T GET here. It appears that work is done to the complex based on how the tenants pay their rent, month-to-month. Things have still not been completed since I moved in last summer. I swear the management staff has changed 3x's within the last 9 months. How can you keep staff if the company that you represents will not do anything? There's only so long that you can talk in circles. Proceed with caution and remember this review if and when you move in.
Went in to view an apartment yesterday. First, I’m not greeted or even acknowledged when I walk through the door( should have been my first sign to turn around), then when the woman behind the desk finally says something ( after simply chitchatting with another person) she seems as if I’m bothering her by coming in and asking about available apartments. She was unprofessional and was not welcoming at all. I waited about 7-10mins for someone to assist me, when the guy finally came to help he acted as if he had never shown an apartment before. Wasn’t prepared with information about the apartments, definitely didn’t seem confindent about the information he was providing. After that I didn’t want to see an apartment, if that’s an example of the treatment from the staff there. Completely unprofessional and horrible customer service.
I wish I could give them 0 stars! Went there for a tour and it was like talking to a wall! Their special is waving the deposit, I asked how much was the deposit, their response “that’s a good question.” I called multiple times, no answer. I spoke with the “manager” and told her I wanted to talk to her, she gives the phone to the “temp” that clearly didn’t have any knowledge about anything. Don’t move here!
I was incredibly unimpressed when I went to this complex for a tour. I tried to call multiple times on my way over with no answer. When I arrived they looked at me until I said something, no greeting. I then asked if I could go out for a tour and explained I traveled a long way for this, they said no and they wish I would have called so I didn’t drive all this way for nothing. I then told them I had and they just had looks on their face of “oh, well we are caught not doing our job.” I then had to ask for paperwork about the complex/rates because once again they were just looking at me, and was told I should make an appointment for a tour. I drove around the complex before leaving and all of the dumpsters had trash scattered around them as if no one cared enough to even make it into the bin.

Hi Sidney, we're sorry to hear that your opinion of our community is not higher at this time. Though we love showing prospective residents what makes our community so special, we always encourage residents to pre-schedule their tours, as we may not always be available for a drop in. We are quite disheartened to hear that your initial impression of our community was a negative one and we would love another chance with you. Please reach out at your earliest convenience. Thank you.
I've been living here for more than two years and I really like it here. If a utility gets broken you just call them and they fix or replace it on the next business day, sometimes even the same day. The staff is friendly and the place is quite and it might not be the most luxurious place in the area but it is not expensive either.
My fiancé and I have been living her for a year. Depending on what building your in makes or breaks how you view it. Our building was quiet but we have new neighbors across the hall who like to party. Only had to call maintenance a couple of times. One time our toilet was leaking (while I was pregnant terrible timing) we called maintence at 9pm he said he was on his way. Called back at 11pm and left vm went to do something came back to a voicemail with him yelling at me saying that he came to the door but I didn't answer which was a complete lie! My fiancé was able to go to the movies and come back and he still did not come. So once my fiancé returned home and listened to the voicemail the maintence guy had left he called back and had to yell at him. He came right over at that point apologizing because he thought I gave him a completely different apartment number. LIES! The office staff is amazing. Completely understanding. The only thing is in the one bdrm apts you only have ONE CLOSET! That's it. Which I've never heard of before but whatever. We are moving once our lease is up though only because the day before we moved in we found out we were pregnant and only have a one bdrm.
DO NOT MOVE HERE! DO NOT MOVE HERE! DO NOT MOVE HERE! THE STAFF ARE LIARS! THEY TOLD ME THAT THE HOTTUB HERE WAA BEING FIXED BEFORE I SIGNED MY LEASE AND COME TO FIND OUT ITS BEEN BROKEN FOR TWO YEARS! THATS JUST THE BEGINNING! THE BATHROOMS IN THE FITNESS CENTER ARE NO CLEAN. THE POOL IS ALWAYS CLOSED DUE TO BACTERIA! THERE ARE GIANT SPIDERS. MY WHOLE APARTMENT IS FALLING APART! SOMETHING IS ALWAYS FALLING OFF OR COMING APART. THE WALLS ARE PAPER THIN, YOU CAN HEAR EEVVEERRYYTGING. THE ROADS IN THE COMPLEX ARE WORSE THAN THW ROADS OUTSIDE OF THE COMPLEX, BOTH WILL COST YOU A TIRE! TERRIBLE PLACE! DO. COME. HERE!
I love living here, affordable with plenty of amenities. I pay for all utilities but it's well worth it for the piece of mind i have just living here. Central air, storage unit attached to patio and in unit washer and dryer for less than 800 dollars!!!
