Do not rent... my one year lease here, being new to greenville, was a nightmare. upon entering my new home it had an insane amount of damage. cabinets falling off hinges, toilets not bolted to the floor, black stained mirrors, and holes in my bathtub? My neighbors were up every hour of the day and night and were LOUD. no amount of noise complaints or maintenance requests could get management's attention. They had the audacity to raise my rent by almost 200$ to renew my lease, like screw that. After I left they spent almost my entire security deposit, "remodeling" the place. they refused to tell me what the cash was spent on.

1) Tenants' dogs poop in front of your door and their owners don't pick them up, when you report it to the office they ask if you've seen the person, they don't send anyone to clean up. They don't send anyone to clean up and they don't do anything. 2) Thieves searched my car and I notified the office, but they told me it had happened to several people, that I could lodge a complaint and that they didn't have a camera. Since then, they've done nothing and it's happened a second time. 3) They never wrote a word to my upstairs neighbors when I pointed out that they were being noisy; they always told me there was nothing they could do. Even the office came one day to do renovations in this apartment without making a warning note, I was sick and couldn't rest. When I went to talk to them, they told me they hadn't thought to warn me because it wasn't my apartment. 4) They put pressure on you when you have to renew your rent. they raise the price considerably, every week they wait for a response from you, the price will go up again. 5) They have no empathy. I have a very sick family member and found myself going back and forth between NY and NC, I didn't have time to look for another apartment and was hesitant to move. They sent me the renewal letter and called me every other day, sometimes even when I was in the hospital. With treatment, travel and my inability to work full-time, I didn't want to spend any more money, and every week spent mulling over a decision risked increasing the cost of rent. I went to see the manager, explained everything to her and she said we could always see together what could be done. I signed the contract and a few days later I received some bad news: I had to move. I went to see the manager and she told me I had to pay $1750 to cancel the contract, which was due to start in two months. I said, "Can't we do something? Can't I talk to someone and explain? Can't we prorate this penalty, given that the contract was due to start on December 21? The only solution she offered me was to continue paying for the apartment until he rented it, or to find someone to take the apartment and my deposit would go to that person. It's not that I don't want to pay anything, but I find it really unfair to pay the full penalty for a contract that hasn't even started, and that they didn't even try to find a solution with me when I explained my situation and my money problems. The office is only open M-F until 5 which is not helpful for people who work full time. So far everything has been a hassle, moving in was not easy at all, they didn’t communicate how much I was expected to pay when I tried to move in and they expected me to fix it without offering any kind of help. Paying rent is a hassle since for some reason Navy Federal Credit Union, a worldwide known banking establishment, isn’t supported by their apartment app, so now I have to pay my rent with a credit card and a $30 convenience fee is added (not very convenient for me). Also don’t believe them when they say that if you are hired by a preferred employer you get $200 off your first months rent because that is not true.

I have been living out here for a couple of years and when I tell u please believe it’s a peaceful place to live the management,staffs,maintenances and the residents are all so sweet and polite once u move out here u just never want to leave this is a place u can call home

I just moved here recently, and I have no complaints. If there was something I needed taken care of, it was taken care right away. Everyone is friendly and neighborly. I would definitely recommend. Very spacious, clean, and quiet.

This is my first apartment. The leasing agents are terrible. They’re very rude and entitled. Moved in a month ago, informed the agents of my payment schedule. Due to my job and the pandemic i only get paid on the 7th of every month while rent is due on the 1st. The agents said they would work with me. Sadly, on the 5th (4 days after i moved in) i get an eviction notice. Tried to contact my leasing agent but to save herself she acted like she didn’t know what i was talking about. So every month i get late fees and evictions notices and their exact words were “everyone situations are different out here, but our other tenets still find a way to pay their rent”. I felt as though that was inconsiderate and contradicting, especially since I’ve talked to them constantly and the last agent ensured me i would be fine paying on the 7th, rather than the 1st. My fault for not asking for documentation in the first place, but still very unprofessional. I do not trust these people at all. Will not be renewing my lease. I wish i could give them zero stars.

Last night at 10pm I see a snake gong into my pantry. I’m disabled with a muscle disease, as the office knows, so by time I got to the snake it had disappeared behind the corner molding. I immediately went next door, as my neighbor works in the office, and told her I needed someone to do something. This morning I called the office and my neighbor answers. When I asked what was going on she told me I would have to wait till Friday when pest control comes. First it was mice, then monster cockroaches (which I’m still battling), now it’s snakes. Every time I sign up for pest control they never come. I wonder if anyone bothers to put me on the list. Needless to say I’m getting fed up here!

My apartment is like living in a house. It’s so quiet you would never think you lived in an apartment. The grounds are kept very clean and Landscaped. Maintenance is the best, usually same day service and the guys are really nice and courteous. Office staff are all very friendly and helpful and were great through the pandemic. This is a great place to live.

I have lived at Southgate for over a year now. Their staff is always friendly & super responsive. They are very quick at getting any maintenance issues handled and in a professional manner. The location is absolutely perfect as it is close to everything you could need!! They are pet-friendly, which my dog enjoys, and have a little doggie park that Oakley enjoys running around in. I would definitely recommend Southgate to anyone looking to move!!
Southgate apartments are nice. They have plenty of space and the price is good. If you want a fully updated unit you pay a little more. I did not go with fully updated and everything works. the staff is very polite, professional and helpful. They always have little events for the apartment complex. The maintenance is excellent, you call in a problem they fix it, 95% that same day. I have not had one issue with this apartment complex it is quite, clean and peaceful. I moved from NY over a year ago, never stepped foot in the place did everything over the phone. I was very happy with what they have. It’s not run down and the area is safe. I recommend to anyone. I renewed my lease also

Even under new management they are terrible with communication. I have had numerous problems in my apartment. My air conditioner has been on and off working all summer long since the beginning of May and they have yet to do anything to repair. The first time it quit working they put a bandaid on it and call it good. Then it stopped working again and began leaking in my bathroom floor and my laminate started coming up. It took them forever to get out to look at it. Once they literally only looked at it they told me they would bring me a fan to dry out the water and everything should be okay. 4 days later and a trip to the office I finally got a fan to dry under the laminate. I had to persistently tell them they need to replace my floor and they finally did. Needless to say my air conditioning still quits working and freezes up and they still won’t fix it. And that is only one of my major issues I have had to deal with. The office people aren’t the best to deal with either. Not worth the money at all.

I moved in May 2019 and have been very disappointed with the maintenance employed by Southgate as well as the overall quality of the apartment. A few weeks after moving in a large water spot appeared over my toilet. It grew to about 3 feet by 2 feet across and I had to call two times to get someone to come fix it, then had to call AGAIN to remind them to come back to repair it after inspecting it. I came home to find it repaired, but someone from maintenance had pulled my shower rod completely from my wall, I suspect while pulling themselves up to repair the ceiling. It took another week for someone to come in and repair my shower rod. Then, just this past month, they began construction on the balconies behind my apartment. I came home to my apartment at 87 degrees (normally 68) and walked into the kitchen to find the wall had a hole in it about 3 inches by 3 feet along the side of my window, completely exposing my apartment to the outdoors. They had gutted my wall of insulation, damaged multiple kitchen appliances and household items, and I had to call someone at 5:30 that evening to come and put electricians tape around the window to keep my cold air in. Management had NO IDEA the construction team had removed by window from the wall and put it back in place without securing it or putting anything up to protect the inside of my apartment from the outside. I have two cats, one of whom could fit through the hole in the wall, but thankfully she did not escape. They have since put wood back up to repair the exterior, but the interior of my kitchen is destroyed. It has been a month and there is still insulation sticking out of my wall, light switches removed completely and wires exposed, and tile pulled from both sides of the window. I had to call back the other day to see if someone could come fix it, and the woman who works in the office told me very rudely she would submit a follow up request. I paid about $200 more per month for an updated apartment, but unfortunately my kitchen, the most updated part, is trashed. I will absolutely not be renewing my lease next year.

The Greenville, NC location is terrible. The workers/leasing agents are rude and very disrespectful. Me and a friend (who is a resident) let a guest in the pool and out of nowhere, not one but THREE employees started to yell at us from across the street. It was very unprofessional the way they handled the situation. We took it upon ourselves to go over to them to figure out what the fuss was about. We were told we had to leave the pool because we opened the door for another guest to get inside the pool. These people need more training on being professional and also need to learn how to handle situations the proper way. I was considering SouthGate for my next place of residence but that will not be happening and I will spread the word about this incident.

I was excited when I first moved in two years. The management at the time was very helpful. With new management came a lot of changes. Not all for the better. They remove lots of trees on the property which kept the area well shaded. This past summer being home on maternity leave in an apartment that was 85 degrees due to the AC unit no longer being shaded prevented my AC from working, when reported to the head person in charge she told me that there was nothing she could do about it. Also with new management they attempted to charge me $30 for some type of late fee that I supposedly incurred in May 2014 which is not possible if I moved in June 2014. Noise is now becoming an issue with more and more college students moving in the area. As soon as my lease is up, I'm leaving! I really love the apartment layout, but all the frustrations are not worth it.
The apartment layout is good. The management, on the other hand, is not. When I was about to move here a year ago, they told me which apartment was mine, so I had my address changed and scheduled for utilities to be turned on. Then two days before I moved in, they told me they had to change my apartment. All headaches from that aside, the new apartment was promised to be the most updated one on the property. It wasn't. They put in new light fixtures and sink fixtures and put in new countertops. The cabinets are still old and falling apart. There are holes in the baseboards in the kitchen (big enough for mice to get through, thankfully they haven't yet). I was promised a private patio but the new apartment doesn't have one. They spent an insane amount of money building a new building for office space but there are still huge potholes all over the neighborhood. They do not keep up with lawn maintenance at all. Even though I do like the layout of the apartment, the mess I have had to deal with from them, I am moving when my lease ends.
