Southpoint is a shopper's paradise, home to the popular Streets at Southpoint Mall. Residents from all over Durham head to this mall to shop its stores: Nordstrom, Belk, Sur La Table, Crate and Barrel, Apple, and Lilly Pulitzer are all located here. The mall also offers a movie theater and a variety of restaurants. Nearby strip malls contain even more shops and restaurants. Of course, shopping isn't the only reason to love Southpoint -- this neighborhood is located along I-40 for fast commutes to Research Triangle Park, roughly four miles east.
Continue on I-40 to quickly access the Raleigh-Durham International Airport, Downtown Raleigh, and North Carolina State University. Downtown Durham is about six miles north, ideal for commuting into the city or to Duke University. Chapel Hill is also nearby -- just seven miles west via I-40. With so much just around the corner from Southpoint, this perfectly-located neighborhood is a great place to call home.

Property Ratings at Southpoint Crossing
DO NOT RENT HERE! I've survived 3 changes of management and all are abysmal. THIS PROPERTY IS NOT SAFE! The gates do nothing but slow your commute. Somebody broke into my car around Christmas and property management didn't care at all. Streetlights are out for more than 6 MONTHS before replacement. Panhandlers hassle you at the shopping plaza next door, I saw a man shoot up at the American Tobacco Trail parking lot less than a thousand feet from the apartment's gates. Packages are stolen within 60 minutes of delivery and management WILL NOT receive important packages to the office. They've just started using Fetch and you'd better leave the "Sign for every delivery" option turned on. I've had so much stolen from this complex I could have paid a month of rent. Your car WILL be towed. Unlimited Property patrols all evening and has towed residents cars from residents spots, not to mention what they do to visitors. My catsitters were in and out within 15 minutes and had their car towed. Don't worry, the complex will block you in with their trucks and make you late to work, it's only the residents and their guests that will be towed. If you catch the tow truck it's $200, if you miss them it's $245 for same-night recovery. You WILL have cockroaches. We've called management, we've worked with the property pest control, we've set our own traps and poision, we've done everything. None of that matters when there is trash overflowing from the dumpster every weekend, giving these pests a buffet and a warm welcome. This property is miserable and management laughs when you mention the buildings are falling apart. They don't care. It's not their house, it's not their property, they don't give a single lick about your wellbeing, they just work here. DO NOT RENT HERE
I lived here for about a year in total. I loved how quiet and safe the area is. As well as the local walking trails, nearby attractions, and the gated aspect of the community. However, there was a really bad MOLD issue that I could smell from my HVAC unit they first week I moved in. Got my unit tested using a mold kit and it came back positive. This mold issue made myself and my loved ones very sick. It was also very hard to get in touch with the leasing office to file complaints, work orders, etc.
I assumed we were under new management when the gates magically stopped working. Since Nick has become the property manager this complex has gone downhill. Gates work whenever they choose them to. Guests can not enter gates because they refuse to share gate code numbers. There are no amenities really. They took apart the community office and the pool worked for about half the summer. The best part of it all? You can't reach anybody via phone or email. They do not respond nor answer. They don't even send out proper emails pertaining to updates about the apartment or anything. Any 5 star review on here is a lie and clearly an influenced review. Other than the location this apartment is NOT WORTH the rent prices. Southpoint Crossing is the farthest thing from luxury. Do not be fooled. PS: No need to respond to my review with the suggestion to call the front office. For one, you all don't answer the phone. For two, you do not care and the way this apartment complex is being ran shows that.
This is the place to be. The amazing staff gets back to you right away. I’ve never had an apartment complex that I didn’t love more than here. It’s so close to everything without having to be in the city. I’d give it more than five stars if I could.
Just want to say thank you to Southpoint Crossing Staff. Nick, Fatinah, Joy. For a great, clean well professional places to live. They always helping willing to go the extra mile for their resident. Also thank you for the great resident pool party y'all had for the resident last Saturday it was so much fun and lots of food. I was able to meet some awesome neighbors. Keep up the great work!
the management is really bad for the first 6 months of my lease my key card for the gates did not work i asked over 20 times and it was never fixed until after 7 months which is crazy cause one of the reasons i moved in was because of the gates. Another thing is that the gates are always broken and open so its never a gated community and also there is a lot of weed smell in my unit the walls on the units are paper thin so i can hear everything anyone is talking about. Now the last thing is that around my lease ending they sent me an email saying that i could not renew my lease they never gave me a reason now iv been late on my rent less then a hand full of times and iv never gotten an eviction notice ever just a late notice. so that may have something to do with it. But i had lost my job and i was late on a couple of payments but never got an eviction notice. now i was not going to renew the lease anyways but you can find something better with better management and a better price.
2/5 stars -- I liked Southpoint Crossing other than being exposed to smoke smells in my own apartment, which loses 3 stars for me. In particular I did have pot smell coming into my apartment at times (this started happening shortly after I renewed my lease for the first and only time). I let the office know but I didn't think there would be much they could do about it and it persisted on and off. 1 other smaller issue was that the recycling bins were constantly overflowing. I wish they had enough bins. Positives: -Great location (American Tobacco Trail, restaurants, right off 54, etc). -No bug issues. (I was on the 2nd floor) -No noise issues. -There is enough parking. If they made some buildings smoke free I think this would be a great place to live. But currently if you are a non-smoker who doesn't want the risk of smoke smells in your living space -- don't live here. (I wish I had been warned about this before I moved in!)

I have lived at these apartments for three years. The new management is horrible. The noise between floors is horrible. The staff is highly unresponsive to complaints, and the local courtesy police ignore all calls. The neighbor above me plays his stereo between 12 and 4 AM and nothing has been done with my over 14 complaints. A neighbor continually puts his trash on the curb of the parking lot and the staff has not done anything about it. The apartments used to be a great place to live, but has really gone downhill.

Well it was nice staying here for 3 years....until they got bought out by a company who could care less about their residents and their needs. I will not be renewing and cant wait for my lease to end!! They allow alot of their residents to break lease rules and dont even try to help maintain these rules to prevent certain issues and potentional harm to others. I enjoy paying more for customer service and people who actually care about their residents. The only thing I am happy about here is in the pool and the amazon hub everything else is trash. The apartment we got moved to due to awful injuries is invested with bugs and careless neighbors. You pissed me off so here is your honest review!

Thank you so much for your positive comments about Southpoint Crossing! Regards, Southpoint Crossing Manager
I recently moved into a 2 bedroom unit with a friend of mine. This being our first move into an apartment outside of our college days I was expecting things to be a hassle. From the day we set foot into the office and continuing now weeks into our lease the office staff, particularly the Assistant Property Manager, has been extremely accommodating and helpful. We had a slew of issues potentially hold back our initial move and he worked with us to figure things out. Even when we moved in within the first week he made sure our every issue was taken care of from big to small (usually within a day of filing the report). Aside from the excellent service, the community itself is delightful. It's quiet, cozy, plenty of parking, and gated. It is located in a fantastic area of Southpoint where even despite the sometimes stressful traffic, there are plenty of areas where residents can easily access and leave the property without fighting the flow of traffic. And not to mention a brand new Harris Teeter is within walking distance of the complex (among many other stores, restaurants, AND the American Tobacco Trail). I would recommend this apartment complex to just about anyone.

Southpoint Crossing has been a wonderful place to live over the past two years. I knew nothing about the area when moving to Durham and found that Southpoint Crossing was the best fit for me. It is more affordable than most places and I have felt nothing less than safe. The location is perfect and is close to shopping, downtown, my college campus, and tons of places to eat. I would recommend living here to people of any age.

I love this location and where my unit is located but may live too close to dumpsters. They do a good job keeping it fairly clean around the dumpsters but still, this may be where bugs I see are traveling from. Something to consider next time.

Hi there, thank you so much for your positive comments about Southpoint Crossing!
This is one of the best complexes you can choose in the Southpoint area!
Quiet, comfortable, and close to everything!
A good place to live. The location is excellent, the proximity to grocery story just up the steps is great, the exercise opportunities are very good.
Despite some lapses in quality of finish (cracks and chips in paint), overall apartment met and sometimes exceeded my expectations. Amenities and appliances are new and working well, noise level is minimal (at least on the third floor), and location is very convenient to groceries, gym, and pretty much anything else you might need. Overall 4/5 stars, well worth the price and I would be happy staying as long as my living situation does not change, rent does not go up too much, and management staff remains responsive.
Great place to live. Nice layout, great amenities, welcoming community! What not to love ?
Living at the corner of Fayetteville and 54 is about as convenient as you can get in Durham/RTP area: groceries, shopping, eating, library, etc...
Its a great place to live!
My experience with the community has been great for the last 4 years, location a wonderful and accessible to all the amenities. I like the maintenance service, the people are very friendly and knowledgeable
Nice place to live. Very courteous office staff.
Excellent Customer Service upon leasing apartment. Amenities, location, and new appliances in unit sold me!
I love living at Southpoint Crossing. They are super pet friendly and have great amenities like a gym, pool, and grills that make me feel at home!
My experience with Southpoint has been good. The staff is always friendly and accommodating and the location is great.
Beautiful, easy access to Tobacco Trail, quiet, and, friendly.
I have just started my (5) year and is a very good community , quiet and friendly.
Because of the poor insulation, i wouldnt recommend to families or light sleepers.
Quiet, friendly neighbohood. See wildlife playing in the pond. Many pet owners. Management very personable and friendly.
It will be 7 years this april (2019), since I moved into Southpoint Crossing. Community personals are very courteous in all matters. The community is well maintained and I personally have had far less service requests. All my questions and requests were addressed in timely manner.
I been staying at southpoint crossing apartment for almost 3 years now, and i love my apartment and the neighborhood. The staff members are so friendly and is willing to help you out in anyway they can. They are the best...
I love It at Southpoint Crossing !
The apartment is in a very good area of the complex. The move in of the apartment was clean and virtually spotless.
Living at Southpoint Crossing has been great. The area is conveniently located, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I don't have any complaints.
Complex ranges from 1 star to 5 stars depending on the current management. Current staff is extremely rude, argumentative, and condescending, which is very different from the previous management when I moved there 4 years ago. Current staff also finds it appropriate to call a tow truck on its residents if they forget to renew their tags on time. Hoping this is just a Transitional management team and complex can go back to being a great place to reside.

Hi, we're so glad that we were able to go above and beyond your expectations!
This place has a bad german roach problem as well as a mice. The location is great but PLEASE don't rent here. The apartments should be condemed I didn't even want to give them a star. The maintenance sucks and the staff aren't knowledgeable
Property Manager at Southpoint Crossing, Responded To This Review
Hi, thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We regret that you had a negative experience, and will use this as an opportunity to improve.
This place has a cockroach infestation. Living here for over a year, we need to ask for pest control every other week. They only come on Friday, so you have to wait to get the apartment serviced. We keep our apartment clean, but these cockroaches are coming form vents and from outside. The "pest control" services do not appear to be working and I do not think they service the outside of the buildings; only inside when people call or email. It is embarrassing to bring guests over to this nasty place. Pay a bit more in another place where there are not these types of issues.
Property Manager at Southpoint Crossing, Responded To This Review
Thank you for taking the time to write a review on our community. I am sorry that you have an ongoing pest issue in your apartment. If you can contact our office directly we can arrange a more intense treatment due to the weekly service not correcting the issue. We look forward to hearing from you. I have lived at Southpoint Crossing for almost a year now and just renewed for another year. It was built in 1999, but they have been working to update all of the apartments. I live in one of the newly renovated one bedroom apartments and absolutely love it. What I like most about the updated apartment are the nice new lighting fixtures and "wood" floors. There is only carpet in the bedroom and living room, which I really like and makes it easier for cleaning. While the apartment doesn't come with washer and dryers, they give you the option to rent them or they have a laundry mat onsite. There isn't a trash pick-up, but a dumpster in the back of the complex, I honestly thought this was going to be an issue, but it hasn't been a problem driving back to drop off my trash. The complex recently got new patio furniture for the pool, which was great to enjoy this past summer. The maintenance staff are really great, friendly, and always come out the next day to fix anything. The front office staff are wonderful and friendly. Southpoint Crossing is also in a great location, right off Hwy 54 and right around the corner from I-40. It is less than a mile from Southpoint Mall and only 15-20 minutes from downtown Durham and Chapel Hill. I work in Carrboro and it only takes me 20 minutes to get to work, so it has been a great commute. Oh, you can also walk to Kroger for groceries!
