Located in central Connecticut, this neighborhood of homes and rentals sits midway between Hartford to the north and New Haven to the south, a 30-minute commute in both directions via highway or the Amtrak rail system. History buffs love the number of National Register of Historical Places in this town, including the former Meriden Curtain Fixture Company factory, a sprawling red brick building converted into the Charles Street Place Apartments.
Outdoor spaces also hold historical landmark status, such as the world-renowned 1,800-acre Hubbard Park from the designers of New York's Central Park. Meriden provides 24 municipal parks, one of the top 10 public golf courses in Connecticut, and three dedicated trails for hiking, biking, and running.
Residents gather at the award-winning Ted's Restaurant, an area staple for over 50 years and home to the first steamed cheeseburger.

Property Ratings at Southwind Apartments
I am extremely happy I found Southwind Apartments. The property is well-maintained and the community atmosphere is welcoming and friendly. A big shoutout to Ally, the property manager, who goes above and beyond to ensure residents are comfortable and satisfied. Her professionalism and dedication are evident in every interaction, making living here a truly pleasant experience. One of the standout features of Southwind Apartments is the efficiency of the maintenance team. They respond to work orders quickly and efficiently, ensuring that any issues are resolved promptly. It’s reassuring to know that any concerns are addressed with such urgency and care. Overall, Southwind Apartments provides a fantastic living experience with excellent management, a variety of amenities, and top-notch maintenance services. Highly recommended!
Southwind Apartments is an amazing place to live. The grounds are kept very nice and clean. It honestly feels like its own private community. They have awesome amenities such as a gym, pool, tennis court, and basketball court. It is quiet and tenants are very respectful. The best part about this place is the maintenance/management team. Anything you need fixed gets taken care of very quickly. The property manager Laura is so kind and helpful. She is very professional, but truly makes this place feel like home. She will do anything she can to help you out and is truly amazing! 100% recommend!
I have lived here for going on 5 years and absolutely love it! The grounds are kept beautiful, it's convenient to highways & town. I have a 3rd floor studio that faces the wooded area, its so peaceful & I feel like I'm in a treehouse! All my neighbors have been very nice & I feel very safe here. Shout out to Laura in the office, who is always quick to help with any need with a smile & positive attitude-I don't know how she does it all! The maintenance staff is also very quick to rectify anything that may go wrong in your unit. A great place to call home!
I have lived here for almost seven years and there's a reason I haven't left. Everyone who works here, from the management staff to the maintenance workers, is kind and friendly. I have a wonderful balcony and ridiculous closet space. There is always parking, and the pool, courts, and playground are well-maintained. The parking lots are brand new and smooth as butter to drive on. I am happy to have lived here for so long and I look forward to the rest of my time here.
My spouse and I moved to Va for approximately nine months. We missed the nutmeg state so we moved back to Ct. While looking for a home, we temporarily moved to a furnished studio apartment at Southwind in Wallingford,Ct. The staff at the facility was attentive, professional and very approachable. They made the transition from Va back to Ct seamless. They keep us informed with pertinent data and meet all our needs. The staff should be praised for the hands on approach they take making sure the the facility runs flawlessly. Five stars for the office personnel. We want to thank all for making our stay a pleasant memory. Sincerely,Mike and Terry Dogali
Worst apartment ever. Too small. Walls are thin, maintenance is slow, have to pay for laundry service

The property is beautiful, apartments spacious and the pool is great. As long as you don't mind maintenance letting themselves in without notice, and opening your bedroom door while you're asleep at 7:45AM. And don't count of getting your security deposit back. In fact I wouldn't worry about having the carpets professionally cleaned as they suggest because they will just charge you to replace it and then rent it out to the next tenant already worn and stained. The machines in the laundry room are smelly and usually all occupied anyway. The pool gets closed "until further notice" any time the chemicals are off. And despite what they tell you, yes they DO raise the rent every year
Southwind Apartments is hands down the best placed I lived. The environment is very friendly and helpful. The complex is very well kept and if you have any issues, the leasing department takes care of it immediately. Shawnna in the leasing department is Great! Always willing to help and always very welcoming :). I love how its so quiet here and I can sit on my balcony to relax at night. The rent is very decent compared to what you get. I have referred my friends here and I plan on staying it for awhile.
I like it here. ive now had 2 different apartments, a studio and a 1br. Its quiet here, a bit pricey but it does well to keep the riff raff out. Some highway noise, but not bad. And anytime i have had an issue that needs repairing, maintenance was right on it, and had it fixed the next day, maybe 2 if it was a holiday. Management is AWESOME and seems to always do everything in their power to be helpful. I would absolutely recommend this place to friends...again.
This is my first time in an apartment complex. Everyone at the facilities are nice and helpful. I love the look and location of the apartment. I love it there
The easy on and off from the highway is great, but beware it's VERY difficult to take a left out of the complex during morning rush hour. The building itself is in good shape, and the complex is quiet. Maintenance responded to my requests quickly. The one morning I tried to go into the office to pick up a package, they didn't open until 9:15, when they are supposed to open at 9:00. Also, the price per square footage is pretty high in my opinion. Great storage in the apartment, though.
I do not recommend this apartment complex to anyone with children or non-smokers. The apartment has mold growing on the walls and surrounding the air conditioning unit. Neighbors are allowed to smoke (which is their lifestyle choice) but their cigarette smoke enters YOUR apartment. Kiss fresh air goodbye come winter time. Your clothes and anything in the apartment will stink like cigarettes. Just take a stroll down the hallway, it's absolutely disgusting.
This is a terrible place to live. The office staff is rude, the noise level being right next to the highway is so loud there is no piece and quiet. The buildings are in great disrepair. Our apartment had mold, we were without water 2 days after moving in, and the maintenance person told us they rinsed the concrete down the drain from the tile work. concrete on door nobs, leaking sinks, the place was a wreak. hallways and entrances smelly and railings splintered. DO NOT RENT FROM SOUTHWIND
The location is great! Easy on off to 91. Shops and restaurants are great. The staff was super especially lauren.
