The far southwest suburbs of Dakota County sit roughly 25 miles from both downtown areas. Primarily families reside in this area, and they enjoy an affordable cost of living, well-planned neighborhoods and a short (half an hour in low traffic conditions) commute into the city.
In this expanse of the Twin Cities' urban fringe, residents have their choice of newly constructed homes on large lots or attractive apartments in large blocks with modern amenities. While parts of Dakota county overlap with St. Paul proper, the outer edges of the county still host farms and natural areas.

Property Ratings at Southwind Village
I can't believe they have 5 stars!! Look at the other review sites. If you visit pay attention yo what you're seeing. They'll tell you they're getting quotes and scheduling repairs. They've been saying this for over 4 months with absolutely NOTHING being done. I sound bitter, and I am. I've lived here for 9 great years and i am upset about the home i once loved being run down by apathetic owners and management. This is a new management company but the owner jasnt been changed. They have no problem raising rent and adding new fees....amenity fees? But they have not put any of the money into repairs, maintenance or safety.
We have lived here for just under two years and it has been one thing after another since day one. Our lease is up soon and we will definitely not be renewing. * 2-3 different Management Companies since we moved here in June 2016. *Our apartment was absolutely filthy when we first moved in. All the cabinets and floors were sticky and bathroom drains were clogged with previous tenants hair! WTF!? *Maintenance requests do not get addressed in a timely manner. When issues are addressed, they are usually executed poorly. Ex: Water heater burst in unit above ours. Rather than actually fix the water damage to our ceiling (3-4 separate wet spots, largest being approx. 3'×5'), they decided simply covering the spots with Kilz paint was good enough. Now we likely have mold issues and brown spotting all over our ceiling. *Maintenance is notorious for entering units without giving proper advance notice. Who knows how many times they've come in without my knowledge at all... *We have black mold around our windows. Windows leak and freeze shut in the winter. *Groundskeeping is mostly non existent. Watch where you step.. people let their large dogs run around and poop everywhere. We were told they were doing a complete landscaping makeover. All they did was cut down all the trees, spread mulch, and attempted to plant some little bushes (most died within a few months) *Very thin walls.. Be prepared to hear your neighbors snoring, sneezing, and using the bathroom. *Zero Security. "Secure Entry" garage door has had a broken lock for months. So, anyone off the streets can simply walk into the underground parking area... Funny that we are charged an additional $35/mo. to park in the "Secure" underground garage. *Outside lights/parking lot lights are regularly burned out or not working. Grounds are extremely dark at nightime.***Most Recently 4/27/2018: Because of the faulty Security door leading to parking garage, at least one person had their vehicle broken into and had their camera stolen. About a dozen or so more residents had property stolen from their personal storage units today. I personally had all my tools stolen from my locked storage unit. We'll have to wait and see if ownership steps up becuase of their complete lack of security and compensates the tenants for their stolen property. The owners of SWV should be absolutely ashamed of the units, property conditions and the way things are handled here.
Well it took us 6 months to get a stove with all working burners because it "wasn't in the budget"... meanwhile they were updating and remodeling all the apartments around us but we had to go with one burner for half the time we lived here. They pick and chose and screw over who they can. One person may pay $300-$400 more than the next for the same exact place, it all depends what they think they can get. Pure ridiculous
I love Southwind Village! I'd been searching the Twin Cities area for pet friendly apartments and every place I visited either smelled, had crazy restrictions or was over-priced. Not Southwind. The apartments are beautiful, inside and out. The grounds are clean and perfect for taking a walk or having a picnic. The apartments are gorgeous! Wood floors, stainless steel appliances AND washer/drier in unit! I'm actually living in a studio (which I never thought I could) but Southwind studios can hardly be considered studios. They're bigger than any 1-bedroom I've rented anywhere else. I love that we get underground parking AND don't have to share long hallways with a bunch of other residents! The staff is great. They're very easy to get a hold of. The office is open 6 days a week so you can just pop in with questions. Everyone has been incredibly nice and helpful. AND they host a bunch of events through the year!
We moved to Southwind Village about 4 months ago without being able to view the property in person before moving in. The sales staff was incredible and gave us a virtual tour via the sales ladies own iPad. She went above and beyond the calling of her job giving us information on the schools in the area, the churches and welcomed us so much that made the process of moving so much less stressful! I have told so many others about this amazing property! The events that they put on are wonderful, they put a ton of thought and time into everything that they do. I love the weekly YOGA Classes and the ice cream social recently was my kids all time favorite! If you are looking for a place... this is definitely a place that you should call! Tour with Laura, she's the bomb!!
We meet Laura at Southwind village and she was extremely nice, informative and very patient with us. All our questions were answered. The underground garage is great! Apartment has all updated features. I would highly recommend this place!
The apartment staff are so nice, always greeting me when I walk in and willing to help out. The fitness center is never busy which is great for my workouts, I get some peace and quiet. There is plenty of parking spot available and underground parking which is a huge benefit. They also have two pools which is a great feature. The apartments are nice inside, dark floors, new appliances, and a good layout.
Beautiful remodeled apartments and a beautiful landscaping make for the perfect home. Town home style apartments that are very roomy and beautiful. Would highly recommend.
