Property Ratings at Spice Creek
Lived here almost 3 years. These apartments are actual trash. When we moved in we had a huge leak in our water heater that flooded our entire apartment. We called maintenance and were told to wait until morning. The leak got so bad that it was spewing into the apartment next to ours and when the neighbors called the office that’s when management felt it was appropriate to have the leak fixed. Next we had an issue with the apartment above our bathroom leaking water THRU OUR LIGHT FIXTURE every time the man got in the shower. I contacted management about the leak and was told they would come look at it. They came and basically told me I was tripping because they turned the water on upstairs and “they ddnt hear anything”. A couple more days went by and the water leaking from our light fixture got a little worse so I called the office and after a few attempts thru out the day I told them and they sent maintenance again and again I was told I’m tripping even tho I had video this time. The man upstairs was admitted to the hospital for a while so a few weeks went by and no water leaking. The man’s family came to clean his apartment and while they did that they ran the water in the shower off and on over 3 days leaking into our bathroom so I submitted a 3rd maintenance request and I guess that’s the straw that broke the camels back because our shower ceiling literally just caved in which is alarming but what really got me was the RAT that came from the ceiling which can be seen in one of the videos I uploaded. I then called maintenance to have the rat removed and they acted like they were afraid and basically told me to do it myself so I had to maneuver my whole apartment because the rat got out under the door and catch it myself. When the ceiling caved in I called and emailed the office several times over 2 days. My work hours and their open hours did not line up so I couldn’t just go in so in order to get this issue addressed it took me having to research who is a corporate level employee and then digging to figure out their email address and then emailing them with the main spice creek email along with the property manager ccd on the email to get a call back about this which really whipped the apartment manager into shape and got us taken care of. So they ended up offering us a “renovated unit” to move into for the remainder of our lease. When we moved in I couldn’t help but scoff at their attempt to call that unit renovated… it was the same as our other unit

I really enjoy living at Spice Creek. It is very quiet. I needed my disposal repaired and they showed up fixed it the same day I put in the maintenance request. Amazing!! It is clean and everyone in the office is professional and friendly. I recommend these apartments to everyone. The rent is reasonable too!!

This is the worst living experience I have ever from here!!! First, please don't be fooled by the model. What they show you and what you end up leasing are nothing alike. When I first signed my lease and I asked to view my apartment prior to moving in I was shown an apartment which was not ready at all. The door had been busted off the hinges; there were huge holes in the walls; there were dead roaches everywhere; the floors were filthy and the apartment smelled awful!!! I later learned that an estranged lover had broken in on his ex-lover and her current boyfriend there. Obviously, I was extremely perturbed by the situation. The manager apologized for the sand offered me a different apartment. I really wanted to rescind my lease, but I was in a desperate situation as I was moving from another city and was scheduled for surgery the next week. So, I accepted. Little did I know this would be one of the worst decisions of my life. I did not have the opportunity to view the apartment until the day I received the keys. Once I expressed my displeasure the manager offered the option to change my lease terms to six months. Before I had the opportunity to do so she was fired and replaced with the current manager who advised me I was stuck with the lease. Every since I moved in it has been nothing but problems. I have had so many maintenance requests I stopped counting. First, it three weeks for the washer and dryer to be removed. Not to mention a mess was left behind. Secondly, it was the end of August when I moved in and the air conditioning was not working. There was a HUGE hole beneath the bathroom sink with so much filth stuck in it it was ridiculous! Everything is just painted over. There are patched holes in the ceiling and the ceiling leaks in the second bathroom whenever it rains. Lastly, but DEFINITELY not least the noise is unbearable! I hear everything my neighbors upstairs do even when their noise is not excessive. I even hear their cell phone alarm vibrations every morning at 6:45. It sounds as if too many people living up there. Once the tramping noise was so bad I thought the ceiling fan was going to fall. I have filed so many noise complaints with the police department and management that I have given up. Not to mention the noise from the street. There is no peace here. I can never rest. This place is SO antiquated it should be torn down. You hear everything from toilets flushing; showers running; water running and traffic all day and night.

I moved in to the property in February. To begin with I was shown the model which is a 1 bedroom 1 bath and was told the 2 bedroom was exactly the same except for an extra bedroom and bathroom on the other side of the living room. My apartment is NOTHING like the model. I was also told my unit was on the first floor. Once I picked up my keys I realized that was also a lie. Immediately after moving in I noticed mouse droppings. I called the office and was told they had not been told by anyone else that there was mice. I have had problems with maintenance and have to continuously baby sit them and call several times before I ever get them to come to my unit. They do the worst job possible and most of the time say they’ll return to complete which they never do and ends up with me having to baby sit again. My a/c went out early summer and maintenance was impossible to reach after hours. All I got was an apology and having to find another place to stay until the a/c was fixed because toddlers should not be in 85+ degree weather. They refused to prorate rent for the days that I had to stay somewhere else even tho it was their staff that wasn’t responding to the emergency

Hello, we sincerely apologize that this has been your experience with us. We believe this is a duplicate review, so we will reiterate our statements from our previous response. Your pest issue is being addressed by pest control currently, and we have made you offers addressing your other concerns but have been denied each time. We have changed Community Directors since your move-in, so we kindly ask that you resubmit any requests that may be pending from before October 2019 and we will work to get those resolved as quickly as we can. We appreciate that you took the time to give us feedback, and should you need anything else on our end, please call (210) 696-1200 or stop by our leasing office. Thank you.
Called the leasing office earlier today to discuss 2 bed 2 bath apartment. Was told that there would not be one available for the date I was looking to move in. Was told about a 2 bed 1 bath that would be available by the time I needed it. I didn't notice it the floor plan on here or their website but thought it was because it was due to an eviction. The whole conversation on the phone I kept mentioning the 2 bed 1 bath phrase. Never once did the leasing agent correct me. My roommate and I show up to tour the apartment only to find out that there is no 2/1. The leasing agent was referring to her 1/1 unit. Ummm...I mentioned repeatedly 2/1. Why the bait and switch tactic when I arrive? Come to find out it was the same complex that sites behind the one I am currently renting. Spice creek usually has broken cars and furniture in their parking lot. Totally not worth the price they expect tenants to pay.

We apologize for any miscommunication on our part and that we left you feeling tricked. We do not offer a 2 bedroom / 1 bathroom floor plan at our community. We do offer a 2 bedroom / 2 bathroom that will be available in October. We currently have a 1 bedroom / 1 bathroom available now and this also happens to be the same floor plan as our model. We wanted to show you the model to see if that floor plan was an option for you and describe the differences the 2-bedroom would have, just in case you were able to wait until October for the 2 bedroom / 2 bathroom. We wanted to make sure you were aware of your options with us. We are not aware of any broken down cars or furniture in our parking lot, but we will make sure to double check this. We appreciate you bringing your experience to our attention and we truly apologize that it was not a positive one. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us by calling (210) 696-1200. Thank you for your time.
I'm glad I dodged this horrible place. They gave me 3 different move in dates all of them the day before I was set to move in. The ladies in the office come up with all kinds of excuses of why the work on my apartment was not completed. After not accepting to move in I was told 3 different times when to pick up a refund check and again with all sorts of excuses. Since mid February I have been waiting on a check... I know I'll probably never get. Hopefully this helps someone avoid this place.

Very upset with them. Our kitchen sink is still not fixed. Our bathroom still not fixed. Its been months and nothing is getting fixed. There's All ways a different person in the office. Will not be renewing the lease. We have holes where maintenance had to cut into and still not fixed in the bathroom. Very disappointed.

Although they may not have a big group of maintenance men they usually get the job done in a timely manner. The office ladies are always cheerful and professional.
I have lived in the apartment complex for about 4 years and have never had any issues. Office women are very nice and very helpful
