The proud home to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor thrives because of this prestigious educational institution. Not only do some 45,000 students attend this university, but the university itself employs over a quarter of the city’s population. And to top it off, Ann Arbor is a hub for science and technology-based companies that are drawn to the university’s research community.
Ann Arbor offers a thriving nightlife and entertainment scene, featuring bars, restaurants, clubs, theaters, and concert halls that are bustling every night of the week. If you’re a sports fan, then expect Wolverine pride to run deep as a resident of Ann Arbor. Michigan Stadium is the largest stadium in the country. After all, they don’t call it “The Big House” for nothing.
With the university residing in Ann Arbor since 1837, the campus and the rest of the city is full of stunning historic buildings, lush foliage, and a charming atmosphere.

Property Ratings at Spice Tree
The housing was okay but the office staff are the worst. We chose Spice Tree because it was the only housing available within our budget during the time frame we were moving to Ann Arbor despite the already poor reviews we saw thinking maybe things had changed since the reviews had been left. Not only was contacting the office and getting the support we needed throughout the time of our stay nearly impossible, they charged us for renters insurance for the duration of our lease even though we had already paid for renters insurance and provider proof of this upon moving in. When confronted with this issue the office staff denied their responsibility and failed continuously to refund us. I thought the struggling would end there but they also overcharged us for rent the last month of our lease and took it out of the security deposit. I’ve been trying to get the correct amount refunded for almost a month and I still haven’t been able to reach anyone who can actually help us. Every time we call the office they take our information and do nothing with it or they don’t answer at all. I would avoid living here if possible but if you do, just make sure you pay close attention to how much they charge you each month because based on our experience, it’s clear they don’t care if they overcharge you and make a habit of avoiding the consequences.

Hi there, we appreciate your honest review. We set a high standard for ourselves, so we are disappointed to hear that your experience with us was not a positive one. Here at Spice Tree Apartments, we are always looking for ways to improve; we appreciate your input. If you would be willing, we would like to have you contact our manager at (734) 434-0400 to discuss ways we can better serve you in the future.
I am new to the area, so I didn't have the opportunity to see my apartment in person before signing a lease. That seemed risky. But upon moving in this week, everything is just as promised. The listings don't oversell, but they also don't underdeliver. And the leasing agents—especially Jill—are incredibly helpful and direct . . . in general, I recommend calling rather than emailing to get a quick response. Overall, I have no complaints with my apartment, which has good floors, good appliances, a nice carpeted bedroom, and a well-constructed restroom.

Dear Valued Resident, Thank you for sharing your experience! We're thrilled to hear that your new apartment meets your expectations and that you found everything as promised. We appreciate your recommendation for quick responses and are glad to hear that Jill and the leasing team provided you with helpful assistance. If you have any questions or need anything in the future, feel free to reach out. Welcome to the Spice Tree community!
Spice Tree Apartments is one of the best apartment complexes in the Ann Arbor/Ypsi area. Not only are the grounds kept clean and beautiful, but the entire staff is exceptional! First, I would like to shoutout Ric. Ric is one of the maintenance workers on the property. He is so hardworking and incredible at his job. Recently, he spent over an hour plumbing, cleaning, and snaking my drain. Now I have a functioning kitchen sink. And, this is not the only time Ric has come to the rescue. He is such an asset to this community. Next, I want to shoutout Jill. She is an incredible leasing agent and goes above and beyond for everyone. In fact, everyone in the leasing office is kind, helpful, and attentive. Lastly, I want to commend the rest of the maintenance team. They go above and beyond to make sure everything is at its best. They even corrected my clocks on my appliances to make sure they showed the correct time! I am so grateful for everyone on the staffing team at Spice Tree. It is a pleasure to live here.

Dear Resident, This review puts a smile on our face to see that our residents are so well taken care of thanks to our on-site teams. Thank you for Loving Where You Live and leaving us this wonderful 5-star review!
Poor staff help. They were all too quick to take my 200 deposit before I was approved yet suggested I submit it under the false belief of being approved. It took 5 minutes to take the money from me yet it’s taking more than 3 weeks for a company with employees to return 200 dollars

I work at UofM. We have moved in Spice Tree Apts for almost 1 year. Really recommend it to whom would like to have a very comfortable and lazy stay in Ann Arbor (UofM) or Ypsilanti. We subleased with an unhappy start because of not getting full information from the former resident (not the stuff of Spice Tree Apts or the leasing office). So we don't have a good impression at the beginning. However, after one year stay here. We really like Spice Tree Apts. a lot. It is located between Washtenaw Ave and Packard Rd, where is very convenient to take the bus (both sides of the Apts can easily catch the bus), go shopping (Whole food, Asia Huaxing Market, Kroger et al) and to University of Michigan, East Michigan University, and Washtenaw Community College. All these areas I have been to quite frequently. The community of Spice Tree Apts is quite comfortable, with large grass and clean pool. The mail box area is in the central area of the Apts. Residents can easy to go to check the mail. If you have large bags, the leasing office can help residents to receive and you can go anytime at your convenience. We live in 3rd floor. We have a natural sunlight from the window, the A/C works well during the summer and the heat is enough during the long cold winter in MI. We spent one winter here and now the second winter is coming. We needn’t worry about the cold at all. The maintainance is in a regular period, and the guys’s work help a lot. The guys in the leading office is quite friendly, kindly, helpful and they hold a lot of events for the residents across a year. I strongly recommend resident to attend such kinds of event. Not only you can enjoy the food and beverages, but also you can talk with and know your neighbors well. I write this long review not because of the Apts ask me to do so, but because of my really good experience here. I have compared at least 5 Apts in Ann Arbor during July because of my lease expired (I mentioned I sublease from a former resident). After did marketing research, I finally continue my lease with Spice Tree Apts, though it is a litter expensive than other Apts. But I really like the community and the work the leasing office guys have done for us. So I would recommend it to who want a really good stay during their study or work in Ann Arbor. That’s all. Oh one thing I would mention is that there soon would be a gym in this Apts. And I heard residents will be free to walk in. Look forward to it!
Moved in a few weeks ago, maintenance has been really fast with addressing my concerns. Office staff is helpful and responsive. So far, so good! :)

Thank you for the 5-star rating! We appreciate your feedback!
I have lived at Spicetree for over 11 years. I would highly recommend living here. Most of the apartments have been remodeled. I renewed my lease I Jan 16 on a month to month basis. Work was supposed to start on my apartment in May. However that didn’t work out. I decided to move into a 1 bedroom from a 2 br. I was supposed to move in August. But.. on Aug 10th I had a stroke. So, my move was delayed due to my health. I am now in my new apartment and so happy about it. I can’t tell you how helpful the staff at Spicetree has been. This is a wonderful place to live!!

I lived in this apartment last year on the first floor. If you are a light sleeper (like I am) you will have a tough time sleeping. Just about every night I was awoken by neighbors above or next door. Now, I live on the third floor and it is quite a bit quieter. Another issue is that there are a lot of dogs in the complex whose owners do not pick up after them, so beware when walking in the lawn. Besides these things, overall I was content with the apartment. A lot of square feet for the price, dishwasher and plenty of parking. Pretty good location as well, between UM and EMU, also near shopping, gyms and grocery stores.
Finding affordable housing in Ann Arbor is one of the most frustrating things about the area. Having a dog makes this even more difficult. Spicetree Apartments has everything that I was looking for in an apartment complex. Two swimming pools, a volleyball court, spacious apartments, a playground for the kids, and plenty of area to walk your pets. Their pet policy is very flexible, and doesn't have strict weight restrictions like some other complexes. It's accessible from two main roads, is on two main bus lines, and is walking distance to many restaurants including Cottage Inn. On top of that, it's located only a mile away from a Planet Fitness. Honestly, I'll be leaving the city or state before I give up my apartment here. There's just too many positive things that I haven't been able to find anywhere else in Ann Arbor.
I've lived in the same apartment here for the past 3 years and have just renewed my 4th lease. The neighborhood is quiet and the location is nice and affordable for in between Ann Arbor & ypsilanti. The model apartments have more modern amenities than the apartment you actually rent. Structurally decent but very outdated appliances. (Get one with central air, the air conditioning units double as heaters. They produce little help any time of the year. Rent is more affordable.
I've been living here since May (2015) and it has been absolutely fantastic. The staff is incredibly accommodating, the space is great for the price and the location is convenient for all of your needs. The apartment is less than 5 minutes from the grocery store, and about 10 minutes from downtown Ann Arbor. The pools are awesome and there is also a lobby in the leasing center at can give you internet access and printer access if you don't have it available when starting your stay here. Pet friendly, A/C unit (depending on model), and a gym across the street further express how convenient this location is. Space is often limited, so call every day if you're looking for a spot here.
