Holland is a small city on Michigan’s west coast, about thirty minutes from Grand Rapids. As you might guess, Holland has a strong Dutch heritage, which is on prominent display all around town: the Dutch Village and Windmill Island are local landmarks, and tulips are everywhere (in fact, one of the biggest events of the year is the Tulip Time Festival in May).
8th street serves as downtown Holland’s main drag, packed with world-class restaurants, specialty shops, breweries, and entertainment venues in a beautiful tree-lined setting. Lake Macatawa (which feeds into Lake Michigan) is a major attraction as well—boating, fishing, and just lounging on the beach are popular summer pastimes among locals. Rent for houses and apartments is quite affordable in many parts of town, with something to suit any taste and budget.

Property Ratings at Spring Brook
It has taken me a while to write this, for more than a month I was too mad with my experience at Spring Brook. First thing, make sure you see the actual unit you are getting. I cannot emphasize this enough. For what you are going to pay don't get hoodwinked. I understand the practice of showing model units but the quality drop off from what we were shown to what we received was dramatic. We ended up in a unit that hadn't been updated in over 20 years. The previous tenents had been long time residents with cats and they flipped the property in less than a week. Not near enough time to properly clean after cats or update anything to being close to the model shown. But what do you do? You have all your stuff and your "new" place you move in disappointed with the serious quality down grade. Unaware something more insidious is hiding under the carpet. The uncleaned smell of cat urine. We didn't notice when we moved in because new carpet had been installed. But our cats did. It made them crazy. They behaved in ways they never have before or after we moved out. They marked outside the litter box, became aggressive with us, and wouldn't leave the upstairs closet alone. After a few weeks we lifted the carpet in that closet to find where we assume the old litter box was because the corner was caked and stained with crusty old litter and pee. They made zero effort to clean up old cat urine smell before quick flipping it to people with cats moving in. It was a nightmare for 12 months. Then when we moved out they charged us 800 dollars to replace the carpet. I'm sure they didn't do anything to remove the proteins that will drive any future cats insane. Be very careful to make sure you see what you are actually getting before you sign anything or give this place a dime of your money or you'll find out that you really moved into Shady Crook Appartments. Renters Beware.
I was looking for an apartment in Holland that had commodities and also wasn't terribly expensive. Spring Brook offers free covered parking, low monthly dog costs ($15) a month, and even has a dog park. A plus that I found nice, was that they allow propane grills on first floor walkouts. Most other apartments don't offer that, so that was another key feature that lead to me moving here. They have a heated pool which is nice, but the gym is even less than basic. There are no free weights, but rather just a simple machine, a treadmill, step climber, and recline bike. The inside of the apartment had new carpet on my arrival, but the appliances were rather outdated. The stove did not have any drip pans, which I found to be really odd. Maintenance has been good about my 3 requests and have responded quickly. Staff here is very pleasant and easy to get a hold of. I would recommend others to move here if you're undecided on where to move, especially if you have a pet or love to grill!
