The northern Austin suburb of Highland has seen a lot of recent development in the last few years. What was once an area of mid-century homes and a mall has become a community of diverse housing options and is home to a vibrant community college campus. Solar panels are a common site on renovated ranch-style homes, as are a number of new apartment complexes.
You’ll find plenty of dining options on North Lamar Blvd., including poke, ramen, and the country cooking at Threadgill’s. The Linc is a popular open-air mall on the eastern border of the area that houses an upscale movie theater, big-box stores, and some popular local eateries too. The Highland campus of Austin Community College helped revitalize the area and adds to the area’s already highly-rated school system.
Highland has become an increasingly popular community due to the recent developments as well as the commute times. The drive to Downtown Austin takes just around 20 minutes with the I-35 and Airport Blvd.

Property Ratings at The Duval at Midtown
I am not joking when I tell you I slipped in a puddle of vomit when I was here. It was a complete disaster...the only maintenance person I interacted with was creepy...it was a demoralizing experience.
Lived in these apartments when I moved to Austin. The worst experience I’ve ever had. Rats in the walls, ceiling, courtyard, bathtub, ac unit; one died and rotted behind my kitchen counter- took a month for them to respond to my complaint. The pictures on their page are so misleading; all of the trees and plants are gone, the courtyard is empty, the pitches have trash and laundry hanging over the rails, trash is everywhere, the property smells like rotten milk, the staff ignored all of my complaints, texts, calls, emails. Property management companies switch every 6 months. If you move here, you will regret it. Do yourself a favor and find another place to call home.
These are the nastiest apartments to live in! I've had the same water leak since I moved in in December. They refuse to fix things. The office does nothing but apply makeup on all day. They use other people's apartments as show to get people to move in they lie about the water system! It's only 1 meter for the apartments, that they split among all the apartments! They lease 1 bedroom apartments to like 5 people and expect you to pay the water bill. Rats, roaches, maintenance men stealing from tenants, mold. Just nasty
This property sucks ive been here 5 months and i hate it. The maintenance sucks these apartments are horrible for the money u pay trying to hold out till lease is over in November.I'm outta here.
I heard that St. Johns has a new owner and management who have plans for much improvement. Good things to come.
In sorry but when you move into a (remodeled) home it shouldnt have a check list for the repair men to fix 2 pages deep. Nor should u be waiting over a week 4 repairs. You shouldnt have roaches. Nor should you be told its on you to deal with them even after telling them of the issue within 24 hrs of move in. They 'fixed' my fridge however now it sounds worse after being rigged. Its now not just the fan being out its now metal to metal grinding. This townhome is far from remodeled. Yay 2 new ceiling fans n new carpet. Everything else is nasty af. You should never move here u will be stuck in a lease & stuck cleaning it on ur own cuz the mold in the rest room is beond nasty and the austin apt Council will be my next step monday am!
