Property Ratings at Stadium Village Housing
This is an old and dirty apartment. The walls, including the ceiling, are paper thin so I was able to hear people talking next door and footsteps from above. The footsteps were so loud that it sounded like an elephant was having a rampage above me. If they walked in just the right area, it actually made my ceiling light flicker on and off. This place is also infested with insects, including centipedes and spiders. There are cobwebs in the corners along the stairwells. It is hard to get in contact with the manager for maintenance, as they sometimes do not reply. They also like to come into your apartment unannounced. Imagine taking a nap midday and then waking up and hearing someone unfamiliar inside your apartment. It scared me half to death. Even though the apartment was kept really clean and barely had any maintenance issues, my roommates and I did not get our deposit back. Didn't even get a message as to why we didn't receive it. I could probably list a hundred things that are wrong with this apartment, but I will end it here. By the way, the 5-star review below was probably from the owner himself. There is no way anyone will get a full refund "plus interest" on their deposit. The grammar and spelling mistakes also make me cringe. It is also funny since he is bashing another review for the grammar.
There are plenty of options around campus and I would consider them all before I would live here. I have lived in a few different apartments and they have all had better management than this place. Firstly, there is absolutely no way to communicate with management- they don't answer phone or email. Even just trying to schedule a viewing of the apartment before moving in was like pulling teeth. In hindsight, that should have been a warning sign. When you move in, don't expect the apartment to be clean. Ours was filthy, it not only had dead bugs all over (including one we had seen from months before when we toured), dust everywhere, and mold in one of the rooms but it also had furniture left from the last tenant even though we were assured the apartment had been vacant before we moved in! I could go on about all of the negative experiences we had with the management (they like to come unannounced to show your apartment, don't inform you when they have someone come into your apartment to fix something that you weren't even aware of, etc.) but really the big deal here is that you will not get your security deposit back. I have talked to several other tenants who did not get their security deposit back as well. It seems that this management really takes advantage of international students (as that is most of the tenants who live here) so please, beware before you sign!
I lived in this building for three consecutive years and found it and the owner/manager to be "THE BEST" ! The building was always maintained and clean!!--I received a full refund, plus interest, on my deposit! Do not believe the ravings of disgruntled tenants- If you take care of your apartment and make an attempt to clean-you will get full refund. I never in my three years heard one complaint from any one- and I know the owner built and maintained this building for over 50 years. P.S.--Check the English & spelling of this complainer and you will see the kind of person your dealing with (- "me and my roommate" -- should be-- My roommate and I")--also--("wholes" in wall v. holes)-"gonna "?? should be " going to")--this is a college student--had lived??-- pretty good time??--I AM SURE THIER APT WAS AS BAD AS THIER COMPLAINT!! ** NUFF SAID KAY L.
Me and my roommate had lived there for nearly 2 years and had a pretty good time. However, when we moved out, the landlord started to use any tricks he can use to hold our security deposit. We seldom cooked ourselves and we clean a lot usually in order to keep our deposit. There were wholes on the walls left by the last tenant. The manager used to say that they will not fix that but they will not charge us for that as well. When we moved out, they said they were gonna mail the deposit to every tenant in 2 weeks, but I got their notice after 6 months even I kept emailing the landlord. They rated every condition as filthy and charged us for the wholes on the wall, even more, we did not even get one penny of the $880 deposit back, they declared that we still owed them $ 135. Me and my roommates are both international students in the University of Minnesota, we are planning to find lawyers to help us solve this problem. Just state our situation here, hope this is going to be something to the future house finder.
