Property Ratings at Starling Grove Apartments
The rent is very expensive for what you get, and they charge $100 per month per pet. The apartments don't come with towel racks or toilet paper holders even though they are shown online. No curtain rods either, although that is more expected. You'll want black-out curtains if you want to sleep at night due to the bright lights kept on throughout the night. The only amenities are a small playground for kids and a smallish dog yard where no one picks up the poop. The police were having to make visits to the complex more and more often. They are rather invasive when applying for the lease, wanting all sorts of private information. The "Our Community" blurb on their website isn't accurate. There is no sense of community; most residents won't even acknowledge you when you walk by, and there are no events. Well, unless you consider a group of preteens drawing a certain male body part all over the parking lot an event. The Lease Agreement is intentionally very ambiguous regarding early lease termination. This is so they can sue you for the remainder of the lease even if you ask them verbally and in writing - well in advance - for clarification and potential options. Management will be super friendly, answer questions about moving out, and give you every indication that your notices were accepted. Even after you fulfill exactly what you said you'd do, keeping payments current, giving 45+ days notice, willingly letting the security deposit go, treating the apartment with respect, etc. They will tell you that you only need to turn in your key to end the lease. However, within 10 days of when your next payment would have been due, they will have already turned you over to a very aggressive debt collection agency. Don't let the property manager's good nature and smile trick you. When I let her know I was forced to pay my last $1,500 to the debt collector, she told me she didn't have control over who management sued and didn't sue. Remember the bullet about the invasive application? They decide to sue the poor shmucks with good credit who they feel have money to access. Keep an eye on that final bill, too. They will add multiple charges called "move out charges" to pad the bill. We ended up settling and I appreciate them doing that. They could have saved a lot of heartache by simply communicating with us when we asked. If they had just let us know their course of action, we could have budgeted to keep the apartment. Instead, they chose to treat us this way.
