Along the Hackensack River about 10 miles northwest of Manhattan, Hackensack is considered a suburb of NYC, with many Hackensack apartments providing amazing views of the famous city skyline. With its fantastic downtown shopping district (complete with brick-paved sidewalks and historic architecture), cozy neighborhoods, and gorgeous parks, you may forget that you're a short bus or train ride away from the Big Apple.
Hackensack is home to some amazing destinations. Be sure to visit the First Dutch Reformed Church, built in 1696. The city itself was first settled by Dutch colonists in 1665 as part of New Netherland. When the English annexed the area in 1667, they named the area "New Barbadoes." In 1710, the village of Hackensack formed in New Barbadoes. Today, that once-sparsely populated village is now a thriving city of about 43,000 residents.
Two major schools call Hackensack home: Fairleigh Dickinson University and Bergen Community College.

Property Ratings at State Gardens
I caught a rat feasting on my baking pan this afternoon. I was laying down when I heard a rattle. Looked up, and there was a black nasty looking thing menacing its tail over my oven. I jumped, and out it went, sliding on its fat belly back into the depths of my oven. I called the super, Sokol, knowing full well he wasn't going to do anything. As expected, he didn't. I began talking, to other tenants. All of a sudden, he got himself motivated to come over. Nice of him to do so. Too bad he's still not going to do anything. Sleeping at the Hilton tonight. I'll figure out my next move tomorrow morning.

This claim is shocking! We are launching a full inspection of every apartment to be completed in the next 24 hours. The same ownership is in place for almost forty years and there has never been a report of a rat before. We invite you to contact our office to discuss.
I absolutely loved my entire experience with Lombardo Realty at State Gardens apartments. The approval process was smooth and the apartment was in excellent condition with a new kitchen and bathroom, the maintenance calls (Sokol) were handled promptly (most times same day), the grounds were well maintained, and the office staff were exceptional and prompt to answer your call or email (Christine) It was in a perfect location for transportation to NYC the market, church, cleaners, library, restaurants, pharmacy, and downtown. I cannot say enough about how safe I felt to stay her after taking a new position in NYC!

Thank you so much for the great review. We take a lot of pride in State Gardens. Owned by the same family for almost forty years. Ray Patete-VP
Went to see the apartment and the pic shown on here is not what you see in person. These pics need to be updated ASAP. Not interested.

We are very sorry you were disappointed with the apartment you saw. We have several different layouts, and we have some original bathrooms and some updated bathrooms. Maybe this was the case. In any event, we intend to look into your suggestion.
I live in a small building, have been there for about 2 yrs., my apartment is very comfortable and secured, well maintain, whenever I need the super he is always available. I am close to many restaurants and shopping centers, I can take the bus to NY and almost anywhere in New Jersey right across the street from my apartment.
