Property Ratings at Steeplechase Apartment Homes
I wanna start by saying that this place isn't the worst. I've never had problems with any neighbors or had anything stolen or damaged. It's pretty quiet. However the rent is steep for what you actually get. Tons of extra fees every month too. They charge for trash removal that's only done every couple days, so you'll have garbage bags just sitting next to your front door which I'm sure is what attracts all the roaches you'll see. The "private lake" is just a muddy pond. You won't be swimming in it. If you stay for more than a year your rent will most certainly go up over $100. My air conditioner has been broken the whole 2 years I've lived here. I reported it and someone came to "fix" it without notice. I came home to find a stranger in my apartment. Mind you, the air conditioner still doesn't work. In the winter they don't turn the heat on in vacant apartments and the pipes freeze. Causing tons of damage. We were then without water for over a week.
I have lived here for 8 years and have seen managers come and go, even new management companies. Yes a lot has happened this year. The newest manager seems to have stayed longer than any in the last two years. She seems to be doing a great job. My apartment is not new or updated but it is well taken care of by maintenance. Yes we were without water for a few days unfortunately. This was for a repair on an ongoing issue that hopefully is resolved finally. Management was there the whole weekend keeping us informed of the situation.I have seen a lot of changes this last year, I am hoping for the best. I am not saying they are the best apartments out there but I like it here and plan on staying here for a while. take it as you will.
I first moved into a two-bedroom apartment here about 4 and a half years ago. At first, it was okay. The apartment had been recently remodeled (cheaply) but it was nice and clean and they had a special price so I moved in. I should have been weary as the leasing agent was a little too nice and friendly. I asked for a move-in sheet but was told they did not use them. There were no major flaws just minor issues. The biggest one was that a light switch in one of the bedrooms was not attached. I said something but was told not to worry about it there was nothing they were going to hold against me. I asked if it was okay to use bolts to hang TV's and was told that was fine and that I wouldn't need to worry about filling holes when I left because they do that when they paint. I went on living there and there were constant annoyances with both management and neighbors. Mosty with the property though. There was a nice pretty pond out front that is a muddy slew that hasn't been fixed in four years. There have been potholes that they let go to the point of being VERY dangerous. Pools are often dirty. They have broken down many times over four years. Water breaks down. They do not clean the building exteriors. I had to walk through raw sewage to get to my apartment for a couple of weeks. It took them more than a week to make a simple repair to an airconditioner that should have been 20 minutes tops. They saw that the roof was leaking on my building and that the walls were stained and damaged from it and did nothing. Parking issues are constant and pretty much everyone I know who lives or has lived there is happy to have gotten out or that they will soon get out. Then when it was time to move out I discovered that they had a new policy. You will be charged for wear and tear on everything. You MUST HIRE a professional carpet cleaner, you will be charged to repaint, and they will charge you $120 a piece for damaged blinds...oh be careful because the blinds are cheap and brittle. ANY and ALL neighbor or area issues are yours to deal with. I thought that when I read such things it was just picky people. No people literally are getting charged more than a thousand extra on moveout because they will try to make you pay for all of what should be normal turnover costs that almost ALL landlords consider the cost of doing business and they include when they consider the rent. My rent has gone up more than 500 dollars a month in four years. Look around...you can do better.
We love it here. Staff is friendly and quick to respond.
We had a great experience here. Management is quick to respond.
Living here was an all around horrible experience. I stayed there for a year and there was a hole in my roof that leaked the entire year when it rained and left the floor wet and the sealing soft. My dishwasher was broke the entire year i was there. I told staff about these problems multiple times and they were never answered. They told me that they bought a new dishwasher for me but never installed it. The Washer and Dryer in the apartment was horribly loud and shook the entire floor. I was afraid to use it because i didnt want to annoy the people who lived under and beside me. The staff were very unhelpful and unfriendly. They also would let you walk into the mail room and let you take anything you wanted without checking who you were or what you took which was very unnerving. It was probably the reason i was missing packages so often. The apartment itself was caked in paint from where they would just paint over anything and it would always chip off into the floor. The trees that hang over the cars were never trimmed so the branches and leaves would hang on your car and scratch up the paint and leave residue. The staff would continuously send text and emails threatening to tow peoples cars as well as other stuff. Last but not least, The location felt very unsafe. There would be non-residents walking up and down the main road by the buildings day and night and some stand there and watch the kids get off the bus in front of the buildings. Over all it was a horrible experience and i would not recommend anyone to live here. Dont waste your time, money, and sanity.
First of all I signed up for a tour and I got everything EXCEPT a tour. The lady tried to get me to apply right then. Even tried to talk me out of a prior commitment to apply. She did show me the breakdown of the fees in addition to rent and they are ridiculous. $1000 security deposit Mandatory $25 Valet trash fee Water and sewage is not built in It costs over $250 to apply AND you are required to have renters insurance with 100,000 liability Now you might think that the apartments are super nice and spacious for that price. Granted it is a beautiful property, however the rooms are very small. Save your money and go somewhere else
This is the worst place i've ever lived. When I was searching I was shown the model which was immaculate. On move in day, I showed up and it was disgusting. Windows were broken, waterbugs and daddy long legs were infesting it, maintenece was pulling someone else's stuff out the apartment, the floors were torn up, the floor molding was cracked, none of the electrical outlets could hold a plug, the appliances were from the 1980's and barely worked. In fact, the dishwasher literally melted a frying pan. It took me literally threatening a lawsuit to get them to fix anything and even then I'm still dealing with a bunch of problems. For instance: I was told that the "trash fairy" service they offer is entirely optional and if I didn't use it, I wouldn't be charged. That was an outright lie. This place is old, poorly maintained, and downright terrible. If your options are move here or live in your car for a week, find a nice place to park.
My fiancé and I had made an appointment to tour the apartment at 2pm on Friday (Sept. 3rd). We arrived at 1:30, early I know, and there was a sign (picture attached) that said "Staff is out of the office. We will be back soon." I thought to myself, no big deal, we're early, they probably just took a late lunch. 2pm. Still no one there. We waited until 2:37pm and no one came in. We were not just a walk in. We had a schedule appointment. In this hour that we were there, 7 different people walked up to the door needing the staff but they obviously were not able to get in. At the end I spoke to a man that had said he had been there a couple hours prior to deal with an ongoing problem he's having and the sign was out then as well. That's also when a current tenant (I saw her walk to get her mail), spoke out and said that this was very common and happens often. I should also mention that in this hour (after 2pm) I had called, emailed, and texted to try and see if I could get ahold of someone. My fiancé and I were the most excited about touring this apartment complex that day (we had several tours scheduled), and this really deterred us from even considering Steeplechase as an option anymore.
I lived here for three years and cannot recommend it. Management has changed at least four times since I moved in, each time getting progressively worse. They never answer the phone in the office and they take forever to address your issues. It once took over four months to get an electrical problem fixed in my apartment, and only then, it was fixed when I threatened to report them to the city for a code violation. There are so many additional fees added to your rent each month, like unnecessary administrative fees and money for the trash service. Most of the apartments are not updated and are definitely not worth the rent they are asking for. Save yourself many headaches and a lot of money, and live somewhere else in Knoxville.
DO NOT RENT FROM HERE! The new company that took over has really run this place into the ground and Don’t care. They never deliver on what they say they’ll do and treat you like a ignorant fool for having a legitimate complaint. The units are out dated even if they are “newly renovated”, mold is a big issue, they charge you for a trash service no one wanted, cars are constantly broken into, they charge you hidden fees they don’t disclose when signing the lease, they never answer the phones when their in the office, the new manager has no people skills at all and no personal connection (only cares about their bottom line), and the price they charge for these apartments could get you a nicer place somewhere else. PLEASE DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!
First off management is absolutely ridiculous they fired everyone handling management and leasing agents and then hired a new group of people just as bad. Maintenance isn’t the best either we’ve had them over multiple time to fix our AC unit. They try to up rent (WHILE IN A PANDEMIC) without you knowing when we had an initial agreement before we signed the papers. This place is terrible very u professional. You pay way to much for less at this place trash hanging all around and had the nerve to say they’ll charge us more for that.
Found them on day 2 of move-in. Immediately told staff. They said they sent "someone" out to check and that they didn't find any. Later that day I showed them the actual bugs. They eventually sent some shady guy out to spray. There continued to be several bugs every day since he sprayed, and they refused to re-treat or doing anything about it at all. In a conversation, management actually acknowledged that there was no procedure in place for checking apartments for bed bugs. They then ignored me for a month and I finally left. Please read something about bed bugs before considering moving here! They are extremely difficult to get rid of and they travel on clothing!
Filthy facilities. No one cleans. Laundry areas gross because no one ever empties trash cans. And they try to blame residents but the rooms are full of leaves. Dog waste bins overflowing. Landscapers mow around fallen sticks. Trashiest place I’ve ever lived.
Units are infested with roaches, amenities are not kept up, and employees are flat out rude.
I applied for a Steeplechase apartment in the Knoxville area on June 26th and it took them 2 weeks to get back to me. In the meantime, I went with a different option (I was unable to get the application fee back). I let them know I was going with a different option and hadn't heard from them since... Until today. Today (August 13th, 2020), I received a text - not an email - from Steeplechase, requesting I pay my "delinquent amount" of $50, or incur additional fees. If this is any indication of how they run their apartments, please do yourself a favor and find a different apartment.
I lived here for 13 months and was happy until the end. Office staff is unprofessional. Had a major sewage issue that was ignored for days, forcing me to walk through raw sewage. Wouldn't recommend.
We need an apartment quickly in Knoxville and chose Steeplechase based on reviews and photos on their website. Some apartments have been renovated, but the one we were in was not. It was very shabby and the cabinetry was falling apart. Repairs made were of poor quality with screws sticking out inside the cabinets. The windows are old and leaky and in the winter, the cold comes right through with frost on the inside. The security lights outside are so bright you need blackout curtains on all the windows. It's a pet friendly complex, but many pet owners are irresponsible and do not clean up after their dogs...I would never walk on the grass. Then there are the trains early in the morning and dumpsters being emptied early too. Water charges are unreasonable, with no separate water meters, meaning you pay a share of the water bill no matter how little you use. Happy to have found a much nicer, reasonably priced apartment with great maintenance and upkeep, responsible pet owners, our own water meter and many more amenities!
My wife and I had to move to Knoxville from halfway across the country for just one year and we rented from Steeplechase sight unseen. We have always been happy with our decision and would be staying here if we weren't moving across the country once again. The rent is affordable, the maintenance staff is quick to respond and friendly. The office staff is very personable and have been exceptional every time we have interacted with them. The location of the apartments should attract anyone who is moving to Knoxville. There are grocery stores near by and a retail area just a few minutes away. It is close to I-75 that connects to I-40 for easy access to the rest of the city but it is not so close that is a nuisance. Before we chose Steeplechase we looked at almost every complex on the map and while they might have been newer they were in more congested areas of the city with difficult access during rush hours. Steeplechase has been quiet and pleasant throughout our stay.
Haven't enjoyed it here at all and im looking to move asap.
I've lived at Steeplechase for about seven months, and absolutely love it here. For some context, I'm 23, a college graduate, and live alone. Location: Probably my least favorite thing about the complex, just because I'm younger and most of my friends live downtown. But being a minute from the interstate gets me anywhere in 15 minutes, and I truly feel safe in the complex and in this part of town, so it's worth the extra drive time. Size: My apartment has just enough space to move around in and fully furnish, but doesn't feel too big to manage. I have friends who live in (really small) apartments all over town, and seeing where they live, I believe I'm getting the most for my money here. Amenities: Truthfully, I don't take advantage of the pools, workout center, and other amenities as much as I should, but I like knowing I have the option. Paying for my laundry with a special card in the community center is probably the most annoying thing about living here, but I do have washer/dryer connections in my unit. The maintenance staff is absolutely wonderful and my favorite part about living here. They take care of the big stuff (broken A/C, no hot water) as soon as possible and are always really friendly and reliable. Trying to think of negatives and the only reason I wouldn't renew my lease would be for location, but I also love how much I'm paying for what I get here. The front office staff are really attentive and care about me as a person, not just a resident, and that makes a world of difference. I would recommend Steeplechase to anyone looking to move!
Beautiful surroundings, friendly neighbors and attentive staff. Love the new dog park as well as how dog friendly Steeplechase is (many dog stations through out property) and the amenities available to choose from (2 pools, workout room as well as a yoga room, business center, 2 laundry facilities, picnic area with outdoor fireplace as well as grills, very nice club house with coffee bar). There are many community events during the year which enable residents to meet and greet.
I am so thankful to finally live at a community that makes me feel like I'm home! The ladies in the office are always friendly and nice, and the maintenance handles my rare issues very quickly. I've enjoyed the quiet are of town too! Its the best choice I've made!
