Lakeville, Massachusetts envelops two pristine reservoirs and acres of forests in its borders, providing a picturesque setting for residents on and off the water. Lakeville’s settlement and incorporation are steeped in history, but today it’s a quiet community with just a few stores and restaurants scattered around its landscape.
In summer, Assawompset Pond and Long Pond host boaters, fisherman, and swimmers even after the sun goes down. The town is surrounded by conservation area and state parks that provide miles of incredible hiking trails, and there’s a collection of golf courses in the north section of the region. Lakeville may seem secluded, but it’s actually quite close to more lively communities like Middleborough and Taunton, each of which provide a number of amenities on their own.

Property Ratings at Sterling Place
We've been here 5 years, since they were built. Wanted to leave a while ago but didn't for convenience. Pros: washer/dryer in unit, pet friendly. Cons: everything else. Assigned parking can be annoying if your spot is absolutely nowhere near your building. Some spots are SO close to each other people hit your car with their door. The walls are like paper. We've had to rearrange our living room because of 2 rounds of neighbors. One being a chronic cougher and the other a screaming 2 year old. We could not sit in the living room without hearing everything so ended up moving the TV to that wall and played it very loud. Oh well. The smells from people's cooking travel down the hall and it's sickening depending what they're cooking (fried fish food). Rent increases EVERY YEAR. Ours has by $50 every single year which is why we are leaving. People do no clean up after their pets. Snow removal is a joke. The new property manager, Lynda, has been caring and pleasant so maybe it will turn around but it won't fix the poor construction. Because of these things people don't stay long so there are always people moving in and out.
So I have lived in Sterling Place for the past 2.5 years. The staff are friendly and patient. The apartments themselves from the outside and the initial view are amazing. After living here for a few months I've had plumbing issues, cabinets shelves breaking, and I've noticed the walls are not well insulated. When I first moved here it was quiet, the neighbors were nice and respectful. Now all I hear are people stomping, running, doors slamming, TV's, etc. My upstairs neighbors fire alarm goes off once a week.
Extremely unprofessional management, apartment rent constantly increases every year you lease... Extremely unfair apartment living.
Pros: Close to highway for commute. Nice layout Cons: No sound proof. You can hear neighbor snore, talk, even hear people walking in stairs. - snow removal: they tell you to move your car when they start snow removal. when I come back to park in my spot, they move all the snow to my parking spot so i had to park in visitor parking lot which only 4 spots are available. - poor management: Worst manager that I ever met!!!! They provide yearly free carpet cleaning, and they left a stain on my carpet. i told the manager that they left a stain on my carpet and she said she will take care of it to make sure she will tell the carpet cleaning crew to clean it off. they never did. when i was moving out, i told the manager that they never removed the stain and she says she does not remember discussing all these with me and have nothing in writing. they might take money off of my security deposit for that. sometimes when you complain things to get it fixed you have to make sure it happens otherwise beware of charges. Also, i made appointment to walk out the property and manager shows up 30 minutes late. Very unprofessional. - quiet hour after 9 PM. People at apartment sleep so early and one time we were having a get together until 8 PM and neighbor downstair started complaining and banging the floor at 7PM. So rude. I understand a little bit because I can hear neighbor upstairs walking around. Basically, poor management, poor service, and poor apartment construction. if you don't mind all these cons, please do move in :)
The location is very close to the highway and the train station, which is very convenient. But Somehow the apartment complex decided not needing a staff in the office. No one ever answers the call. Actually even before they stopped staffing, the office always seems to close earlier than advertised.
Outside of the building looks great here at Sterling place, however it seems like everything is struggling to continue to work. Our main door has broke multiple times sincw being here, our AC won't cool our place on occassion. Can't wait to move but still have lots of time left. I you need an apartment in Lakeville and there is nothing else then Sterling Place then feel free to become a new tenant. Hope this helps!
We have lived here for over a year, however, we would have left sooner if not for commuting considerations. We will be moving as soon as possible because the experience has not been a pleasant one. There is dog waste EVERYwhere in the grass despite numerous reports to the office to please do something about this. They continue to change the lease rules, including instituting assigned parking without communication where the assigned parking spots were (this led to seeing numerous people getting towed and further reducing the sense of community). The tenants are generally unfriendly and no one stays very long. The staff is uninformed and unresponsive. For example, we left a message on the emergency, night voicemail that was NEVER returned. Luckily we were able to resolve the issue ourselves. The last time we requested a maintenance person they didn't come the first two times we were told they would, and when they did come they left our unit unlocked after the call. The advertisements promise "stainless" appliances-don't be fooled they didn't leave out "steel." The appliances are simply grey plastic. And, as many others point out, there is NO soundproofing. When our neighbor snores it feels like he is in our bed with us because we can hear everything. All in all, it is not worth the high price and aggravation. I highly recommend looking elsewhere. The only positive is the proximity to the train station.
I have lived here for almost a year and I cannot wait to leave. Let's start with the positives. The apartment itself is good. I like the layout of the kitchen, bedrooms and having two bathrooms. It's great to have laundry in our own apartment and a balcony to relax on during the day or at night. Having the hands free key entry to the building is great for when you are bringing things in. It's nice to be able to see who is buzzing to get into the building before letting them in. The location is great very close to the train and highway for commuting. That's where the positives end. Now for the negatives: Snow removal is absolutely terrible here. The company that they hired would be out during the snow storm which is great, but when it stopped there was no real help with plowing out the spots. A lot of people would just move their cars and hope that the spots would be cleared We had to shovel out spots and hope that others wouldn't take our spots. Sometimes we would have to park over snow covered spots. Also they don't do a great job at salting/sanding either. Parking they just started assigned parking, which has made things worse. Where we live parking wasn't that big of a deal, usually there were enough spaces, you may have just had to walk a little. Now that there are assigned spaces, I feel that it has gotten even worse. Sterling Place has put it up to the person of the assigned space to call and have the vehicle towed if someone is in your spot, you just have to show id and you copy of the parking addendum proving that its yours...great in theory. Now you have people putting notes on one others cars ie move or I will have you towed...or sorry couldn't park in my spot since someone else is there...to notes saying that you are parking 'too far out'. I can only imagine how it is going to be in the winter time. It's just crazy, maybe the assigned parking will get better with time, but if I wasn't already moving it would make me want to. Maintenance They have 2 service guys on the property (well I think for here and the one across the street). The maintenance requests seem to take forever. First you have to either call in or email the request (why not be able to do this online?) If you email the request, they never let you know that they received the request or when it will be done until either A you see someone in your apartment or B see a note/the issue completed. The completion of the task is usually at least 3 days later..if that soon. I understand the guys are doing their best but let people know when they are coming or here's a thought HIRE MORE STAFF. Office staff Speaking of staff, the office staff isn't very good at all. They are very slow to respond to any request that you may have. They don't seem to ever be in the office before or after a normal person's work day to ask them questions. When you do ask a question they don't seem to have a clue. They also promise things that don't seem to be true. When we moved in we were told that there is no smoking on the property. So when I saw someone smoking outside, I made a comment to the office via email just so they were aware. I was told then that people could smoke outside just not in their apartment or balcony....one of the reasons I liked this place was because it was smoke free. Overall, I don't think this place is worth the price they are renting it for. It makes sense to see why a lot of people are moving out now. Good luck to anyone moving in here
We moved in last March. The apartment itself is beautiful, but we will not be renewing our lease. We are on the third floor and have had to endure endless complaints from our downstairs neighbors about us "walking around". They even called the police on us more than once for "walking". Management has not addressed this situation. Also, we are a couple who live in a one bedroom apartment and we each own one car. We are now being told that we are only allowed to park one of our cars on the property. Management is enforcing a one car per bedroom rule, without regard for how many adults have signed the lease. The other car must be parked across the street at Kensington Court. This is not acceptable, especially since every night there are plenty of parking spaces available outside of our door. They are now trying to enforce this new rule that we were not told about when we moved in. We have been told that they will tow the car that is illegally parked on the premises that we live in and pay rent! We are looking to move as soon as possible due to the harassment from management and other tenants.
We are current residents....we have a one bedroom, but we have 2 cars. We were just told that we have to park one of our cars a couple of hundred yards away in another complex. If not, we will be towed. They change the rules. There are plenty of empty parking spots...you just can't use them. The construction is cheap....very noisy...very unfriendly neighbors. Look elsewhere...we are.
Unfriendly neighborhood, people complain about pulling chair out to have dinner (furniture moving) because dining area has no carpet. Complain about walking in the apartment. TV and music being too loud. Watering flower in the balcony and water drip down. Washer and drier shake up all the wall and floor connected to it. People also complain about not having enough parking space close to their building, pet waste on the grass... The biggest problem I think is the buildings aren't well built. The sound isolation is very poor between apartments.
The apartments are very nice on the inside I loved it ... However they didn't do a good job sound proofing the apartment. I just moved out and I am glad I used to wake up every single day to the sound of my neighbors talking and yelling and bagging. I can hear them from my bedroom. Also the apartment is not very well insulated. Overall if you like quiet then this is not the place for you. If you don't mind hearing your neighbors talk and the dogs bark then these apartments are just fine.
Very thin walls, floors and ceilings. I know a lot about the 2 guys in the building because it sounds like they are in my room when they talk. I know how much they make, they bounce checks, childcare problems and much more that I should not say. The management is very passive in their approach in solving problems. Every time you talk to them it is the first time they have heard a noise complaint. Very nice staff they just don't know how or don't have the authority to solve the problem. (four months of talking to staff about noise) They lady that lives above us sounds like she has a spring board they run, jump and drop things on that keeps us up at night. I really feel they cracked something in the floor when they drop the things that sound like weights. The people that share a wall with them can't sleep near the wall next to them. By the way although it is load in the morning its the 10pm to 3 am that it the most problematic. The maintenance staff is awesome. Very friendly and fix things fast.
This is a brand new apartment, the apartments are nicely insulated during winter. The complain I have are from dog barking and pet odor in the hallway.
Property Manager at Sterling Place, Responded To This Review
We had to find a short term lease, and Sterling Place was the only place that would accommodate us. The apartments are nice, but there is no soundproofing and the noise is a real bummer. You can hear everything, walking, conversations, other peoples washing machines and dishwashers. It is okay for temporary housing, but I could not recommend these apartments for a long stay. The water had a strange smell when we moved in, almost like mold ~ we were the first tenants and the place was brand new, so I'm not sure if that is normal.
