Property Ratings at STEVENSON LOFTS
I lived in Stevenson Lofts for over 2 years 2016 - 2018. When I first moved in the building had a different owner and property manager than it currently does, and this was ultimately the reason I decided to move out. In 2015 the building opened as residential apartments and originally was an industrial warehouse. The renovation was quite cheaply done, especially the walls. You can hear people through the walls and above you quite easily so hope you have respectful neighbors. The units themselves are lofts and I liked the design and layout a lot. The fixtures are very new and modern and the second unit I lived in on the top floor had lots of natural light. You definitely should try and get a unit that faces the courtyard and not Jessie or Stevenson streets. If you are considering these units, you need to really be aware of the neighborhood and streets that the building is on. I never once had any safety issue, but 6th street, Jessie st, and Stevenson st. have a lot of people struggling with addiction and homelessness at all hours of day / night. This was not a problem for the first year in Stevenson Lofts as the building had the absolute best security guards (we miss you Howard and Michael!) but the new owner / property manager got rid of them. However you need to really check out this neighborhood before you sign the lease. The majority of people will not be comfortable and not feel safe. In 2017, the new owners consistently reduced service levels in all areas. Some of the lowlights were not having hot water for 3 weeks, garage doors to the trash dock being broken, no plan for handling package delivery, and maintenance requests going unanswered for weeks. Throughout most of the 2nd year I lived there the building was probably less than 66% occupied - which is insane in San Francisco. I know several of the units had problem with silver fish bug infestation (mine never did). The landlord is horrible. It really is a shame because I loved my first year living in Stevenson Lofts. The neighborhood can be a challenge, but my neighbors were great and we helped each other out, but now we all moved away . There is no telling how much worse it is going to get in this building, but I lost any hope that anyone cared. If I was rating things on my first year, I'd give it a 2.5/5 stars, but the 2nd year and half is a clear zero stars. Such wasted potential for this building / community, but there is no reason to live here.
