Property Ratings at Stonecrest Apartments
Apartments are very affordable, well kept and have a great location. A short walk to numerous parks and downtown. Only a short drive to Purdue’s campus. Anytime I had a maintenance request, management was quick to resolve the issue. Neighbors were quiet and friendly.
I visited this location when searching for apartments and the only thing good I can say about Stonecrest is that it solidified my decision to live at another location. The building is poorly maintained and tenants kept trash piled on their outdoor walkouts. Do not believe the photos because they are from years ago. There was a car in the parking lot that only had space for one person because the rest of it was filled with 20 oz pop bottles. The common area entrance was poorly lit and nothing was in the lobby besides a broken piano. I let someone show me around to see the apartment quality and it was no better. It legitimately felt like one of those scenes on a crime show. Sitting against a wall in poor hallway lighting was a guy on something staring at a wall. The apartments were small and run-down. It did not feel safe whatsoever. The Greenbush area that this is located around does no better for its reputation as a drug and crime area. Stay away.
I looked around Lafayette for a place to live for months and in the end, Stonecrest was the no-brainer. Rent is cheap, it's pet-friendly, and the apartments are kept better than all the others I toured. The landlords are great too. All the other people I dealt with at apartments were rude or extremely business oriented. The landlords here are a family and they keep it professional, but they will help you out and make you their priority. When something breaks, they fix it quickly. They answered all my questions and made my stay here comfortable. I'm surprised that rent is this cheap here, but I'm not complaining. : ) I have gotten one of my friends to live here already, and I would recommend it to anybody else!
Overall my short stay has been very dissatisfying. I've had multiple things break and Maintenence is never in a rush to fix things. Not only that but this morning I encountered a cockroach. So a lesson learned would be, don't live here because they have roaches.
First, I was told that the apartment would be finish before I moved in, it wasn't. My move in date had to be push back a few days. After I was finally able to move in, the apartment was still wasnt ready. They had to install a few things days after I moved in. The apartment was a little dirty, I had to clean the ENTIRE place myself. I mean it was ok, but it wasnt in a condition it suppose to be, especially the restroom. The tub spout had about a quarter inch of water deposit under it. Water was also seeping out of the floor tiles around the toilet. The patio door was crooked and have half an inch of gap between the door the door frame that you can easily see through it. The perimeter around the AC was poorly insulated. The insulation on the left side of the AC wasnt even touching the AC that I had to fill in myself. I mean the gap between insulation and the AC is about half an inch and you can clearly see parking lot outside right through it. The AC was also really loud that you cant even sleep with it running let alone stay asleep. The closet doors was also crooked, it wont close completely. Same thing goes to the bathroom closet. The bathroom door was also crooked and had to be force close. And when you finally able to close it, you can easily force open the door by pushing/pulling on the door. At the south end of the apartment complex is an excel center. The HVAC system on that place was so loud that it kept me awake for a few weeks after I moved in until I finally somewhat got used to it. When I finally moved out, I had to wait 45 days for them to evaluate the apartment and deduct any thing broken/wrong including the cleaning from the security deposit. So before I moved out I clean the ENTIRE apartment and left it cleaner than when I first moved in. After the 45 days, I got a letter stating the areas they clean after I left and how much it took to clean, which conveniently added to same amount as my security deposit. The reason I'm adding this part is because I know they didn't "evaluate" the apartment. If they actually did any "evaluating" they would notice that the apartment was a lot cleaner than when I got it. Oh and also when I took a closer look that "areas" they clean, there is one thing in it that the apartment doesn't even have. So how can they clean and charge me for something that the apartment didn't even have.
Chose to live here for the following reasons: -Rent is cheap -The apartments are extremely well kept -The family who owns and runs this apt. Complex is very friendly and accomodating Factors that could deter people: -The hallways/public areas need a thorough cleaning. They often smell and have garbage floating around along with numerous stains and grime. -The neighborhood does not seem the safest Overall, if you can deal with the walk to your apartment, everything here is great :)
The hallway smells REALLY bad almost to the point of gagging. It doesn't look like they do upkeep very often.. Needs a little paint in spots, drywall fixed, spots removed on carpets, light fixtures are dangling on balcony. Sometimes find homeless people sleeping in the hallway. The washers in the laundry room are not very good. The furnace or AC unit is still and eye sore in the downstairs area...For it being a family owned building I would think they would maintain it better.
it's pretty good. the rent is affordable and the apartments are nice especially for the price. there are more expensive apartments a few streets away that aren't nearly as nice. there are only a few downsides. personally my biggest issue is the onsite laundry services. doing laundry costs $3.00-3.50/load, there is no hot or warm water with the machines, and it could benefit from having a change machine. the other downside is it's a little difficult to get ahold of the landlords when you need to. the landlords are really nice though, as long as you're paying your rent on time and not causing trouble. it's a little difficult to get accepted as a tenant but as long as you make enough money (like not under $1,200-1,300/month) and they have the room available you have a shot. it's a good place to live though. not a terrible area of town and shopping places within walking distance, which is good if you're a bus taker because the union street bus doesn't run after 6pm or on Sunday.
I would really like to see an apartment, however was told availability won't come until after first of January. Would really like to live there.
