Higher education and a rich history define the area of Downtown New Haven. This neighborhood centers around nine original squares from the 1600s, as well as the collegiate Ivy League institution that is Yale University.
Along with Yale’s campus, much of the community is made up of the New Haven Green and the commercial district. Downtown New Haven’s strong community presence is evident with its many restaurants, entertainment venues, and nightlife – especially on Chapel Street.
As urban as this neighborhood is, it’s also one of the most residential downtowns in the nation. The Shops at Yale is in walking distance of Yale’s Old Campus, and includes a variety of boutiques, salons, and eateries.
Locals enjoy the area’s museums and theaters, like the university’s Art Gallery and Shubert Theater. Students and locals enjoy their Downtown New Haven homes and apartments, which are close by to the train station, Interstate 91, and Interstate 95.

Property Ratings at Strouse Adler
This is one of the more affordable apartment buildings in the area and the location is perfect in my opinion! Right between Wooster Square and Downtown. Also, the parking lot is huge, parking is more affordable than other Downtown locations, and is in walking range of many parks. This place is huge, and the units show that as well. I have been living here for about 5 months and ideally would like to stay in the building, but move to a nicer unit if possible. The walls are very thick, and I can only kind of hear my neighbor when he is yelling. There are plenty of windows and when you close them, you can barely hear the train (though I like the white noise). My only complaint would be that maintenance works slow if your issue isn't urgent, and the apartment could be updated a little better. The original hardwood floors are great, but my unit has so much damage from previous tenants that could be improved with a fresh sanding/finish. Also, there was an issue with my sink within the first 3 months, but it got fixed quickly.

Great find in the area. Perfect location if you are a commuter. Its local to markets, pharmacy's coffee shops and good eats. The train station is a 2 min walk around the corner (NH-State street) The apartments are huge open floor layouts with central air. Pet friendly everyone has a dog here, so if you don't like them this is not the place for you. First floor are carpets and sometimes can be very moist in the apartment due to lower circulation, and limited windows, i would try a second and above apartment. Major downfall would be maintenance orders. They take a while to receive a response and sometimes you have to call several times. Other then that its a really great place to call home.
great location quick walk to down town, the rooms are generally nice, the maintenance department responded quickly when you have an issue. my only complaint is the center court yard where people take there dogs and no one cleans up after them.
Renting a 2-brdm currently and I have to admit it beats the heck outt've everybody else's Sq ft. It couldn't be more centralized either, being a 2 minute walk to Wooster St, and across the street from a Subway and the Elm City Market. It's about as safe as you get to feel in New Haven, which obviously has a strong selling point.
