While Farmington is only about eight miles southwest of Downtown Hartford, it feels more like a wooded resort town. The Farmington River meanders through the heart of Farmington, lined with picturesque parks. Narrow roads wind along hills, through the forested countryside and past the roadside stands of local farmers. But Farmington has another side -- a thriving business side, with major companies like Cisco Systems, United Technologies Corporation, Beazley USA, and iTech Solutions located in the city.
Farmington is the oldest settlement west of the Connecticut River. English colonists arrived here in 1640, attracted by the rich soil along the river. The town and river were named in 1645. Main Street features several colonial estates dating back to the 17th century, and George Washington referred to the settlement as the "village of pretty houses.

Property Ratings at Summit and Birch Hill Apartments
First thing is this place doesn't tell you upfront that they require you pay water, garbage, and some sort of renters insurance. This adds about 80 bucks to the monthly rent they advertise. Second the AC is horrible in this place, it has one unit in the living room for the entire apartment and it doesn't do a thing to the other rooms. My wife and i found ourselves sleeping in the living room a lot and that is ridiculous. They don't allow AC units. Also the place keeps going up in rent each year by about 150 bucks, this is really annoying but just makes people want to move out at the end of the lease. Other than all of that it isn't to bad of a community. Other tenants are fairly quiet and respectful. I also have always felt safe here as well as my vehicles secure. The wood floors are a bit battered, but its nice for cleaning vs carpet.
Not a huge fan of the property, the pictures make it look a lot better than it is.

Thank you for your feedback - we are appreciative and take all feedback seriously, so we know where and how we can improve! I’m sorry to hear you are disappointed with your experience. In effort to improve our property, we have enhanced our landscaping with a major landscaping project, as well as an exterior and interior painting project. We're in the process of renovating our apartments with a ton of updated features, such as hardwood floors, granite countertops & stainless appliances, and we offer heat and hot water included. We believe that one of the things that makes our property stand out are the fabulous views of the Farmington Valley. We are available and happy to discuss any concerns you may have at 860-677-2763. We look forward to speaking with you, and continuing to improve Summit & Birch Apartments!
I would never recommend living here to ANYONE. The only pros are the location and the price for that location, and I will say the people they hire to plow really keep the hill spotless, but that’s about it. They don’t rush to fix any problems that you have, and when they do get around to it, they don’t do things the right way. I’ve had to have them come back to fix the same issue multiple times, and command strips rip the paint off the walls. They’re also advertising that they’re newly renovated, but everything in my apartment is old, things have even broken. All they care about is getting new people in so they’re super friendly and extra helpful during that whole process, and then once you’re here they don’t give a crap about you. Awful.
I just moved out of Summit and Birch Hill, specifically the Summit part of the complex. Overall, the experience wasn't bad and the location was perfect; it's right next to the ramp for Route 6 (to go to I-84) and it's on Route 10 (which takes you up to Canton and down past Southington.) The pros are that it's relatively inexpensive compared to the rest of Connecticut, both in Farmington and other Central Connecticut towns. Additionally, it's spacious for the price; the bedrooms are big, the dining room and living room are too. The kitchen is the only thing that's tiny. But for us, my roommate and I, the cons outweighed the pros. For starters, while the complex is very accepting of dogs, they may be a bit too accepting. We've ran into many aggressive dogs while walking my dog. Additionally, dog poop is littered throughout the grounds, even though the complex asks for owners to pickup after their pets. Inside, there were a few things worth noting. The whole unit has one air conditioner, a wall unit in the living room, which during hot summer days does not cut it. The bathrooms are tiny, definitely not big enough for two people. And lastly, management is horrendous at addressing maintenance problems at a timely fashion.
DO NOT LIVE HERE. It's dirty, awful selfish management who does not answer calls, ridiculous prices for a gross apartment. Biggest regret was living here, I got the heck out and advise don't make the same mistake i did and live here!
I lived here for 8 years... just moved out in March 2016. Covered parking, heat included. Great maintenance/office staff. Great job plowing snow. Never had any issues not resolved quickly. Move out was easy with no hassles. I lived on the bottom floor and had no issues with noise or anything from neighbors. The only negative would be the building is old and the windows are drafty and the trash was full often... but just minor things. Great location.. close to J Timothy's which is the best place ever. Overall.. I highly recommend.
location is on a hill overlooking a scenic valley. Accommodations include a balcony and back door to back area for our bbq and additional seating. The two bedroom is very nice, with additional windows in the master and the bathroom. ( We have an end unit). The office and maintenance people are very nice and quick to respond. We had trouble with our stove and they replaced it in two days of our maintenance request.
Great place to live so far! Friendly people throughout the community, large bedrooms and quiet surroundings. Although not the most wallet friendly howevere the area is nice and well maintained so you get what you pay for!
When you choose to live here you are paying for the best location in Farmington and the convenience that comes with it. I have lived in this pet friendly apartment complex for over a year and recently renewed my lease. I work as a teacher in the local area and appreciate coming home after a long day to the quiet complex and friendly (not to mention fast at repairs) staff. Over my time spent here I have discovered the best gems such as Rattlesnake Mountain trail, J Timothy's wings and Naples pizza, a lookout onto the Farmington river down the street, and a short drive to 50 Cent's mansion up the hill. The car port is nice in the winter and the complex is good with snow plowing. Laundry facilities are provided, a play area for dogs and doggie bag stations are throughout the complex. I have a dishwasher, back entrance as well as a balcony. The living room is BIG and lots of light comes in during the day that most of the time you don't need the lights even on. The only downsides that I have encountered while living here are ones that are not particular to Summit and can be found in ANY apartment such as the trash dumpster being full often, hearing neighbors above me sometimes, the occasional car alarm going off, a laundry machine being out of service every now and then, etc. Other than that I am happy and hope to live here as long as I can.
