The small city of Cullowhee is a secluded, heavily-wooded community in the heart of North Carolina’s Nantahala National Forest. The rolling hills and beautiful forests form the backdrop to a charming college town, anchored by Western Carolina University; serving over 11,000 students and employing hundreds of locals as faculty and staff, the university is the main economic and cultural driver for the community.
The local rental market includes a number of options to suit any budget, from apartments near campus to single-family homes just outside the city limits. While Cullowhee itself hosts a few popular hangouts like Tuck’s Tap & Grille, a much wider selection of shopping, dining, and nightlife options can be found just a few minutes up the road in Sylvia and Dillsboro.

Property Ratings at Summit at Cullowhee
I move in fall 2018 and I am picky about what I need to know as to sq ft and the space I will be living. Who is there and what it will be like. I have had nothing less than kind people over the phone and they seem very into their jobs. I'm thinking that some of these reviews about this place and the staff are a bit high strung.
I visited a friend living here as I was interested in renting a room. They were booked up which was fine. I chose to park in the visitor parking area designated. (Which is about a half mile from my friends apartment. The spot is atrocious.). I was then towed because apparently there was a small red fire hydrant in the grass to the right of where I parked. No red lines on the ground. No sign that said anything about it. I am a USMC veteran and expect at least a little professionalism. I think the way that situation was handled was a disgrace. I am out 150$. Do not even go near this spot. They are looking to tow you. Horrible place to live if you want any visitors. Not veteran friendly.
Normally I would not bother to write a review, but I don't want any new college students to be sucked into this complex because of it's amenities. As a total honest review, the apartments are great but very overpriced for what you get. You do not want to live here because of the management. It is horrible. As a manager you would think that a manager of an apartment complex would have some personality. The current manager does not and that is what drives everyone away from this complex. Why a company would want the manager working for them and being the front face for the complex I have no clue. If you tell someone on campus where you live they usually respond with a nasty comment about her. The assistants are very friendly but they seem to come and go. Which I can imagine why. I personally think they take pride in the loud parties that occur at the complex. It is very hard to get sleep. There is not enough parking by the building you will live at. One morning we woke up to find urine running down the wall of the outside of our apartment door from the stairs above. The maintenance staff is friendly but they are so swamped with all the repairs that it takes forever to get done, if it ever does. Our whole apartment was quite dirty upon move in, when we vacuumed what came up was disgusting. Also, they come unannounced into your apartment. If you live here they will attempt to charge you for things you haven't even done. The security is a joke. Cars are towed all the time but the parties never calm down. It is also only on certain days of the week till a certain time which they do not mention. I am fairly certain all the good reviews are mostly written by management themselves, as I hear nothing but complaints. I would never want my child to live here. If you want to have loud parties all around you every day of the week, random charges, and get attitude every time you walk into the clubhouse that is supposed to be an amenity, then this is the place for you.
This apartment is the perfect place for my new husband and I and our sweet puppy! To be newlyweds and have such a beautiful and new place is a blessing. Conveniently located to nursing school which we both just started together! The pool is wonderful, love the hammocks, and place for our puppy to play.
I'd never forget the first day I walked into my apartment. I felt like I was in a James Bond movie. The floor was wooden and didn't squeak at all. Also the apartment was furnished which I love the most because my previous apartment wasn't. The lights dangled from the ceiling like Prom and it came equipped with a 43 inch TV. I just had to pinch myself because I remember growing up with a box television that never got good quality pictures so as a child I always had to adjust my eyes. I never saw such a beautiful Kenmore fridge but what amazed me more was the bed and bathroom because I had a queen sized bed so I could sleep how I wanted and then a side door which opened up to a garden tub. Right near the tub there is a walk-in closet so big that you would literally think it is a bedroom!! Being able to lay in bed and wake up to the beautiful mountains after work almost makes me feel like I'm on vacation. Life is sweet and in the words of Forrest Gump, "life is like a box of chocolate. You never no whatcha gunna get."
