West Des Moines is located in three Iowa counties. Residents of this area enjoy perusing the local shops at Valley Junction, which began in 1893. Today it serves as the city’s business district, flavored by undeniable community tradition. With more than 100 specialty shops, art galleries, and restaurants, there’s always something new to discover.
On the other side of West Des Moines, Jordan Creek Town Center occupies a large fashion space that includes a 3.5-acre lake and boardwalk. Many apartments are just minutes from the mall’s stores, movie theater, and lakeside restaurants. The city is located in America’s heartland and has cherished quilting since its existence. Quilt-making goes back to the 18th century in West Des Moines, and many people proudly display their creations at city craft expos.
In addition to quilting, residents of West Des Moines enjoy the local productions at Tallgrass Theatre Company on Vine Street.

Property Ratings at Sun Prairie/Vista Court Apartments
The complex charged me over 350.00 of my deposit, stating that the carpet was dirty when we never walked our shoes through the apt. I called and they said they shine a blue light which showed dirty. Said it was probably from our dog. I said we dont own a dog. My husband said they just ripped you off, case closed. We know for a fact when we left, the apt. was spotless, the apt. cleaner than we moved in. This is my first time ever writing a bad review.

We are sorry to see that your experience with our community has fallen short of the five-star standard that we strive for. We try our best to prepare residents for potential fees upon moving out. That being said, additional charges are dependent upon the condition of the items in your home. If you feel as though you were unfairly charged, please give us a call to further discuss our evaluation.
I’ve been here 2 years. The location here is great. You’re literally within 10-15 min of everything may need: schools, a hospital, the mall, Costco, Target, Walmart, Hy-Vee, I-80, and I-235. My neighbors are super quiet, our package room is amazing, it’s dog friendly, maintenance is decent, and the staff here are nice My only major complaint is that the laundry rooms aren’t always 100% in too shape. Often times at least one dryer is broken. When you’re sharing a tiny laundry room with 15 or so units, it can become a battle to get your laundry done. My other complaint is that the hallways can smell like pot. I don’t care if people do it in their free time. Have at. But others shouldn’t have to smell it and allegedly you’re banned from doing so according to the lease I signed. Overall, give this place a think over. If nothing else. The specials are usually decent. My a few years ago was a $400 Visa card. One year I got a free months of rent for signing a 12 month lease.
They say cable and internet is free it’s not they put it in your rent!! Once you sign the lease they become rude, disrespectful and very unkind!! Be careful when you shower, it goes back and forth freezing cold to burning your skin! The water always smells so bad like rotted eggs and sewage! They’re money hungry they will charge you for every little thing! The cops are here a lot there has been violence outside not a safe place! The hallways always smell!
I've lived here about a year. When you factor in the free cable and internet the price here is pretty good for what you get compared to other places. There were definitely nicer apartments that I looked at so I am speaking from a value perspective. Only bill I pay is electric which is around $15-20 most of the year and was $30-40 in the hot summer months. I'm recently divorced and have elementary aged kids and they love the multiple pools and playgrounds and trying to catch frogs and stuff at the lake (you arent allowed to fish but I occasionally see people doing it). Cable is a basic 50ish or so major channels but you can pay for upgrades, dvr, premium channels etc. you can see their stuff at visionsystems.tv. Internet is really good and each unit gets its own private wifi router. Furnishing and kitchen appliances are bit dated but ok. Garages you can rent are spacious. I live on the top floor and on really cold days it wouldnt get any warmer than the low 60s and can get kinda hot in the summer in the back bedrooms. Noise is ok, you can't hear neighbors unless they are really loud but you can hear people talking in the halls. Haven't had any significant pest issues.
This Apt is fine to live. Stinks of food the whole apt as you walk in. The only reason why I rented this apt was because my work was like less than 5 mins and great location to live too but do not expect your Security Deposit return. I left the apt cleaner than when I moved in but they charged me more than $200 for that. I called them to request if there could adjust the fees a bit but denied mentioning the carpets were not clean, the oven was dirty and the dish washer was not clean. Just an honest opinion. Sorry did not want to write all of these.
Dirty and smelly hallways and laundry rooms. The washing machines and dryers don’t work properly. Shower drains are extremely slow and before I moved out their were two am occasions where water came through my bathroom ceiling which caused mold to grow. The property managers are a joke and they will screw you out of your deposit and try to charge you in addition.
Laundry room always dirty, washing machines full of hair, some not working properly. Trash area is terrible piles of trash on ground that is never picked up. Carpeting in hallways, stained and dirty. Terrible heating and AC is a joke!
Old nasty smelly apartments with nothing good for the price. Most of the time nothing works and has to be repaired constantly. It’s noisy 24/7 being next to the main highway. Window air conditioners do not cool the whole apt. unless you run it constantly and it very loud. It’s a real ripoff and I’m glad to have moved after six months. The rules are ridiculous like you must be quiet after 9pm or can’t do this or that. Never ever again.
Prompt response time and friendly staff, always helpful and professional.
It was nice service and they did action immediately after we called them our apartment problem. Thanks
Maintenance is quick to respond to even low priority requests. Great location. Utility bills are low. Heat system needs a serious update and AC units aren't in all bedrooms, but the price is reasonable because of those things. There is usually no problem with waiting for laundry machines, and the dryers are recently updated in my building. The dumpster location is kinda ridiculous (2 deep in a garage, so you can't really get to the one in the back and the front ends up overflowing). It is kid and pet-friendly, so if you hate stomping, ask for the top floor. All in all, not the highest quality apartments, but the price is appropriate and the service is excellent.
So far so good everything is good,..any complaint is done on time,. I had a problem with the bathroom drainage system and they attended on time.
This apartment complex is near Jordan Creek Mall, and two blocks away there is a Hy-Vee Pharmacy, a gas station, three pizza parlors, a Subway, etc... If you need anything and do not drive a car, there are bus stops nearby, and you can do what you need. Two hospitals are about 5 blocks away to keep you safe. The location here is excellent, the staff is friendly, and the apartments are well kept. It has been a great place to live.
I've only been here a couple of weeks and I am very pleased with the response time of maintenance department (nothing major) when I called in for my icemaker not working properly. All of the office staff have been wonderful when I have come in with questions. Thank you Sun Prairie!
These apartments are okay, management is not very helpful or kind at times. The snow removal is crap, only using 5s and 10s to pay for laundry on your laundry card is really inconvenient. The office hours are not ideal for people who work full time jobs/weekends if you need to visit their office. They are not helpful or lenient what so ever when you make a mistake on rent. Their apartments pricing is a little much for the quality of apartments. The location is great though. I would have rather paid a little more and lived somewhere else.
Property Manager at Sun Prairie/Vista Court Apartments, Responded To This Review
I am sorry to see you feel you haven't had a good experience with us. We allow both laundry cards, which yes you would have to load money on those, or you can use coins if you choose. The cards are for convenience so you do not have to carry quarters around. I'm not sure what the specifics are with a "mistake on rent", however small balances we do not charge late fees on, and we work with people on the small balances, however if you don't pay rent or only pay a little, then yes fees are assessed. This you will find at any complex. We are open from 9am-6pm Monday through Friday and 9am-3pm on Saturdays, and are always open on the last and first days of the month. We have company policies in place, and it is against fair housing to give anyone special treatment, or not do the same things for everyone, which is why policies are in place, for everyone's benefit. We try to treat everyone professionally and respectfully, and equally. If you'd like to discuss this further please contact me at the office.
This apartment is clean with good supervision to make sure that everything in apartment is good. Maintenance team is so quick to respond and they do really good Job. Good Job Marc, for your wonderful service at 6101.
The one good experience I had was fast maintenance. The buildings themselves have structural issues that make extremely loud creaking noises with every step the upstairs neighbor takes, resulting in many sleepless nights. Cockroaches and stolen laundry were an issue in my building. Water temperature is often irregular, alternating from scorching hot to cold in one short shower. If I could have terminated my lease early, I would have. I highly suggest not living here.

Its unfortunate that you were unhappy here. As a Leasing and Marketing Manager, I tried to understand to the fact that I let my resident relations person go after hours whenever this noise was happening to hear it. Yet as much as you say it happened we were never able to hear what you were saying you heard. As far as the showers go yes we had to replace a water heater in that building. It was fixed within a few days. We have 1,075 units with over 3,000 residents that don't seem to have this opinion. Again I am sorry that you were unhappy here. Like ive stated before, perhaps multi family housing just isn't for you. Here at Sun Prairie we strive to please all of our residents, unfortunately you just weren't happy. I hope you've found a home that suits all of your needs and wants.
Property Manager at Sun Prairie/Vista Court Apartments, Responded To This Review
Did you actually have cockroaches? Were your clothes actually stolen? This is something that I would have definitely dealt with, so I am really confused. Did you report any of this? The water heater was replaced within 24hours of the first complaint. You could have done an early termination, we offer buyout quotes to everyone that requests one. Our buildings have steel beams between floors to highly reduce noise, we also have alternating studs, with insulation between dual walls between the apartments, with 8" thick walls on the exterior again to increase energy efficiency, and reduce noise.
Sun Prairie isn't the most fancy place but it is affordable, clean, great location, a lot of amenities, and utilities are included. Just down the street you'll find the new apartments that you can hear every neighbors move, but they have granite countertops for twice the money. Sun Prairie has great new management! They've been making the place look really nice new brushed nickel, showers, flooring, new carpet new paint etc. Like I said not fancy granite and white woodwork, but this place is solid, energy efficient, and the better value by far with everything included! This place has been good to me anyway!

Thank you for your review! We always love to hear from our residents!
They don't care about their residents. They only care that they get their rent money. Living on the second floor, upstairs neighbors stomp, wrestle and "noise" complaint staff and others have done nothing about it. Highly disrespectful. Living on west side of 60th st. don't plan on getting any sleep. Once my lease is up, IM OUT!
Property Manager at Sun Prairie/Vista Court Apartments, Responded To This Review
If myself or any of my staff are highly disrespectful at any time I would like to know about this. I feel our staff is very respectful. I have a resident relations person that does all she can to ensure the happiness of our residents. I do know I personally even said I would've moved you to a different apartment even a third floor if there was an issue. Unfortunately for this situation it wasn't enough. I understand that you were upset. I would still like for you to let me know which staff member was "Highly disrespectful"? Here at sun Prairie we strive to have very good customer service. We are not a small community and filling 1075 units while being disrespectful doesn't happen. We would be very vacant. However I do know that we are all human, so I would like to know and take care of it please. Please get ahold of me at your earliest convenience and I would be more than happy to discuss.
This apartment is okay for a first time renter otherwise, I would consider other apartments around the area. The grounds are unkept and overgrown with weeds. The buildings often smell of mildew and other smells that are not pleasant. Halls are dirty and bugs are often crawling around. The units themselves are not clean. I found cockroaches in my cupboards, in my closet and there was an ant problem in my bathroom. No matter how hard I tried to clean the unit, the bugs reappeared. DO NOT rent from this property if you do not like cockroaches (I gave you fair warning). The maintenance team was responsive but the bugs would continue to appear within weeks of spraying. The air conditioning unit broke down often... I would consider a place with central air or a place that keeps up with their window units. The space is not worth the price. This is an overpriced complex. There is no gym so if you are looking for a complex with a fitness center.... look elsewhere. The office staff is unprofessional and rude. They treat everyone that walks in like crap once you are on the lease. They are not helpful and they change the terms often. Again, this apartment is okay....... but there are much better choices for just a little more money. Please consider other options.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! My husband and I unfortunately made the grave deadly mistake of living here. All their buildings have been INFESTED WITH ROACHES FOR YEARS AND YEARS. They try to cover them up by not telling you and by having these monthly 'checks' which they try to claim are for bedbugs and maintenance but in reality they look out for any signs/symptoms of roaches. Once they find any signs/symptoms of roaches in your apartment (during these monthly 'checks'), they file a notice ordering you to leave but still demanding that you pay for the rest of your lease. This is an inhumane practice that they have been used to doing to poor residents in the past. This is because they are afraid that you would break your lease or file a lawsuit against them when you discover that their buildings are infested with roaches, so they quickly take action by trying to claim that your apartment wasn't 'clean enough' and therefore you are the one who attracted the roaches when the buildings have already been infested with roaches for years (this is also a way for them to steal/profit months and months of rent off of you even when you've already moved out). Over the years, we've sadly met and spoken to previous and current residents that have been victims to this cruel, wrong, immoral practice by Sun Prairie (under PPM inc) and these poor residents have been extorted and stolen of $1,000-$4,000 of dollars each time.
I like this apartment. This apartment is clean and time to time supervision is done to make sure that everything in apartment is good. Maintenance team is so quick to respond. I don't have to pay Water and Gas bills which is great advantages to stay here. Similarly, they do have connection with fitness centre and being residence of Sun prairie we don't have to pay for joining gym .. This is really owe some .. Hence I really like this apartment .
I started living at my apartment since November 1st 2010. The building complex is very large and of good architectural design. My apartment is very functional and I always try to keep it clean and decent looking. As for the maintenance, they are very prompt and efficient. Regarding the charges for rent, it is reasonable compared to other places in West Des Moines area. The general surroundings is always clean and a lot of green surroundings. It is a good place to live.
I've lived at Sun Prairie for 10 years and look forward to 10 more!
Sun Prairie is good place to live with your family. It is a quit neighborhood, they have a play ground, outdoor pool, said walks, garage, they also have security cameras around their building and so on... About 5-10 minute walk to the hospital, restaurants, gas stations, and personal care stores around the area.
Benefits of Sun Prairie Apartments are: -Affordability (rent is generally lowest in the area) -Great West Des Moines Location (close to 235/I80/I35 and shopping/restaurants/parks/trails) -Safe Area -In depth screening process on who your neighbors are (ie: Riffraff not allowed>strict Drug Free policy; management works closely w/WDM police department: help prevent/stop crime) -On Top of It Maintenance> timely with repairs, keep grounds maintained, clean & in the winter>show shoveled! -Pools/Playgrounds/Basketball Courts= Free to use by Tenants Disadvantage of Sun Prairie: -Rent increases each year -Parking can get tight (many parking lots/spaces but many cars to fill them! :-)
The apartment is good for the price. The place is a little tight for three people but for the location and everything you get included in the rent it is awesome!
I've lived at the sun prairie apartments for 2 years and I've never had any issues. When I've had maintenance related issues, they've always come within the day to fix whatever the problem was. Cheap for a nice area of West Des Moines. I feel safe in the neighborhood. The only issues I have are that there isn't central air or washer/dryers in the actual unit. You get what you're paying for.
I've lived here for just under three years and have no real complaints. The staff is always great, maintenance is timely, and a free gym membership to boot. Fantastic and safe neighborhood. It is cheap living, so you get what you pay for: no central A/C, some apts have older appliances, coin op laundry (although theres laundry in every building with rechargable cards, which is the best case scenario for coin opp) they hold true on their energy efficiency promise too, we've never had to pay more than $30 for electric, all other utilities covered!
I've lived here for over two years now and the maintenance staff is top-notch. The room I looked at when I was given a tour was similar to the one I received two months later, though I was told later on I'd been given the smallest one-bedroom option. It's suited my needs so far as I'm not married or anything yet. The main issue I've had thus far is that they haven't done anything about a bat infestation I've had on my deck for ten months now. It was originally one bat but now it's four and nothing's been done to alleviate the problem. I believe they're federally protected, but I was told three months ago that they'd seal up the opening above my balcony where they're nesting so they'd have to relocate (never was done). There are also four outdoor swimming pools which are nice.
I lived in Sun Prairie for 5 years and moved out due to hike in rent. But would love to live there again on the first floor. They have nice apartments and good management and the maintenance team takes good care of the grounds and sidewalks as well as the parking areas. They pay for heat and have quilted blinds which help keep the electricity bill lower. There wasn't a noise problem generally, the units seem to be well insulated.
Although my roommate and I were rejected, we had a very good experience with the office staff. They were quick to reply and eager to help us. The apartment is exactly what we were looking for, unfortunately, it did not work out.
Maintenance showed up within a day. Very polite. Although our family has outgrown the apartment, I am a little sad to leave it behind. Good layouts and appliances. Lots of parking. Neighboring kids can be a bit noisy when playing in the hallways.
Located in West Des Moines, these apartments are always next to something that's happening. The value of the apartments too is exceptional, cheap living, clean apartments in a clean part of town and right next to all the action.
