North Daniel Island begins just south of I-526 and extends northeast to the edge of the Francis Marion National Forest. While slightly less populated than Daniel Island proper, North Daniel Island residents enjoy fast access to the popular shopping and dining district along Seven Farms Drive. Downtown Charleston is only about 14 miles southwest of North Daniel Island, a commute of less than 20 minutes. Those working at Joint Base Charleston and the Charleston Naval Complex find that being directly across Cooper River convenient, frequent flyers will enjoy being minutes from Charleston International Airport, and shoppers will appreciate the nearby Tanger Outlets Charleston.
For those who enjoy history, the Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site, Historic Charleston City Market, and Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens are all minutes away from North Daniel Island.

Property Ratings at Sweetwater Apartments
It's sad because Sweetwater has the potential to be so nice! I think the women in office don't have much control over anything, and they don't seem to be able to make decisions. Instead of being honest about that they will constantly lie about why things are broken or are not kept up. Look at the review stating the pool was closed by DHEC; the pool was closed TWICE by DHEC and management stated it was closed for "maintenance". They seem to not realize that residents saw the closure notice. We are aware of the reasons listed for closure. The lying makes everything so much worse. Elevators are constantly broken, multiple cars have been stolen from the lot. Cars are broken into almost nightly. There is no security and there is absolutely no move to fix it. Apartment buildings are all having plumbing problems that will only get worse, and nothing is being done about it. Hopefully WestShore will turn things around before it's too late, but that doesn't seem to be in their plans
Management is a JOKE! Leasing office are rude and unprofessional! Maintenace don't do their job. Grounds are disgusting with dog poop everywhere. Broken roof on dock. Pool chairs are hidden under a building after a hurricane. Pool is nasty with broken tiles. Grill area is horrible with no propane for the grills. Mold in apartments. Fish hooks, rusty nails, broken glass on the grounds. Dogs aren't on leashes. Trash everywhere including the trash dump area. Too much rent for poor quality!
Living here is awful. The management company that took over a few years ago is the worst. My family got super sick after being in the pool and then the pool was closed by the SC Department of Health citing zero chemicals. They do not maintain the property at all. And the onsite management staff are very rude and don't care when you raise concerns. There are so many other nice options near here.

Thank you for your review, we appreciate the feedback as we strive to make changes based on this information. Our team works diligently to keep the community clean and we have a pool company that maintains our pool. The pool was closed for one day for maintenance but it was not cited for "zero chemicals." We would like to learn more about your experience - please contact us in the office so that we can assist you.
For background, I have lived here for four years, and ever since West Shore took over, the complex has gone to hell. The grounds are not taken care of, the pool has been a mess, I can hear rats in the walls (I’ve reached out and put in a maintenance request, but they do not respond, answer the phone or return voicemails for any issues), there is dog poop everywhere because they do not care anymore and the dog waste clean up stations never have bags anymore, the packaging room is almost always out of service, - the list could go on and on. On top of that, they had the AUDACITY to try and raise my rent by over $400 a month. Prior to West Shore, my rent was never raised by more than $60 when it was time to renew the lease. But hey, at least they offered a 3% discount ($58) if I sign a new lease within the next two weeks (I hope the sarcasm translates, because that is honestly insulting to even offer something like that - I think of it as the equivalent of tipping a waitress a few pennies).
The staff will not even replace the bulbs in the street lights and in the bridge lights going over the ponds, which have trash and dead fish floating in!! There have been MANY CARS BROKEN INTO AND EVEN STOLEN FROM HERE! They will not replace the BROKEN SECURITY CAMERAS THAT WOULD HELP STOP THIS. When asked they get rude and say it’s on order, yeah for 11 months!!!! Security here is a JOKE !! And they rent out units like hotels throughout the complex and call them “corporate units!!” How about greedy “short term rentals”. They used to screen residents but now they let any Joe blow redneck move in! THE ELEVATORS ARE A GAMBLE AT BEST. THE MOST UNPROFESSIONAL COMPANY I HAVE EVER SEEN!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!
Sweetwater used to be an amazing apartment complex! Nice management, well maintained, just 10/10. Ever since West Shore has taken over the property it has gone downhill. Multiple people have written petitions asking upper management to help and rectify the situation however there has been no response. If you have an issue, dealing with management on site is next to impossible as they are extremely rude and demeaning. I have quite literally seen both Rachel and Olivia get into a yelling match with residents and/or vendors/the postal service. Docks are broken, dog parks are completely run down and bare, on one of the dog parks neither door works so it’s pointless, the ac in the work out room doesn’t work, a lot of tenants are having issues with pests (I.e worms coming out of the floor boards), no one cleans up after their dogs anymore, the parcel room always smells like rotting food due to meal kits not being picked up/refrigerated, and not to mention the recycling and trash is always overflowing. I would HIGHLY recommend living elsewhere because I don’t see any of this changing soon at this point.
I have lived here since 2018. I really enjoyed being a resident while the previous staff was still here. They were very polite and respectful and made themselves available for residents who had questions or were having issues. That is far from the treatment me and my husband have been receiving as of recent. When we brought up an issue with Olivia, we were treated like a bother and were questioned like were were lying. I have never been so disregarded and disrespected by anyone at the sweetwater office. It was extremely embarrassing and disheartening that I would be treated like this, especially in front of other residents. I miss the professionalism and the welcoming demeanor the previous staffed possessed. It made me feel happy to be a resident and excited for the events that brought the community together. This new staff's attitude and total disregard for me and my husband has stunned me completely. I can't continue interacting with them if this is what I am to expect going forward.
