Laurel enjoys a unique position roughly halfway between DC and Baltimore, and its relative seclusion makes it an attractive option for commuters who work in either city but prefer a small-town home environment. The close proximity to Fort Mead also makes Laurel a popular option for Department of Defense employees and military personnel seeking off-base housing.
The cost of living is rather affordable, and apartments tend to rent for much more reasonable rates than closer to the major cities nearby. While almost exclusively residential, Laurel does feature a handful of large shopping centers along its major roadways as well as a quaint Main Street district, the perfect place to grab a cup of coffee in a friendly café before heading off to work.

Property Ratings at Tall Oaks Apartment Homes
Our life here at Tall Oaks Apt, in our hometown of Laurel, has been a good life. We felt strongly about writing this review because recently the office and maintenance team did a great job pulling out of a rough patch. Many of the apartments were affected by frozen pipes because of a power outage. The teams pulled together - took our tough calls and worked hard to get us back up and running. Our hats off to them for staying kind and professional through it all. Well done!! We stay here because the 3 bedrooms are roomy, the grounds are kept nicely, and both office and maintenance teams are responsive!
If I could give them no stars, I would. Move while you can.. from the roaches to poor management, save your family the headache and stress I wish I could have saved mine from.
Walls are super thin, you can literally hear everything going on next door & upstairs! I had mice throughout my kitchen and living room. I’ve literally opened open my front door to leave out and a MOUSE RAN INTO MY APARTMENT!!!!! Rental office never did anything about it. They would send the same exterminator to put down traps that never caught ANYTHING SMH! Complete waste of time and money. DONT AND I REPEAT DONT MOVE THERE !!
This place is not a place I would move into if I would of known then, what I know now. They sell you on the space and the space is very nice but that is about all that there is. My partner and I have been living here for 4 months now and have been unhappy ever since. We have battled roaches, which have invaded our Keurig machine, which is now ruined. We have bought sprays, foggers, you name it because at the time nothing was being done about it. We, on 2 separate occasions have seen a mouse. And have heard them in the walls and vents. The advertisements say new washer and dryers, that is anything further from the truth. Our washing unit leaks, thank goodness for the oh so convenient tray the catches all the access water that has also dampened our carpet. When I went to the rental office to complain for the 2nd time to the staff, they showed record of some of the "tickets" but not all. Maybe its because of the method of putting the tenants complaints on a piece of notebook paper that things aren't getting done. And if you are looking for a quiet place, do not look here. The walls a PAPER thin. And the neighbors have no respect for after hours noise. We had to call the emergency line at 1AM because our "neighbors" had their TV on full blast. You can and will hear conversations, babies crying, dogs barking, TVs and music playing. Save your time and money, trust me. Currently right now we are in contact with the health department for some of our issues.
Moved in around june of this yearjust to find out the Apt weren't properly cleaned and or fumigated. Bugs running around reported it to the Apt office only to be accused of maybe bringing them with us. Anyway that didn't happen because we just purchased all new furnishings for the entire apt.Paid our Rent on there portal only to be accused again of not paying our rent. Even had the sheriff's office put Court papers on out Apt door. Rent Late didnt happen. The apt manager found the mistake on there part and apologize. A little too late. At this time hi will not recommend anyone to move here at Tall Oak where Renovations means a little paint here and barely clean old Appliances aka stove and Refrigerator. And holes in the flooring where there your neighbors aka the MICES PLAY.ASsoon as my lease is up We out. Please hi said PLEASE AVOIDTALL OAKS LIKE THE PLAGUE.
Horrible customer service at the front office. They messed up my payments, actually they put someone else's apartment money order on my apartment and didn't catch it until we said something about a payment issue. Staff weren't knowledgeable on any of the complaints we made. When we put in work orders for our apartment it took me calling the emergency line to get anyone to come by. The maintenance manager said the lack of communication was due to the new staff not putting the work orders through to him. Also, I've had one multiple homeless people loiter around the entrance of our apartment complex, one even followed me up the stairs to my apartment trying to get money. Scammers come by all the time trying to get people to give them their BGE information. They hold signs outside their apartments that say newly remodeled/renovated apartments. Slapping on a coat of paint and putting in new carpet doesn't count. The appliances are outdated, a mold covers the vents, along with peeling paint in the bathrooms and water damage under the kitchen and bathroom sinks. So to sum it up false advertisement. The community gym has outdated and broken exercise equipment that they talk about being new and usable. This apartment complex is the worst and is done right wrong for charging people so much money for this kind of living conditions. Also, on my last week in the apartment complex I heard mice or rats in my wall and have video proof. I also told someone in the office in person that a gutter was falling off of building 176 on the back. No one ever fixed it after I voiced concerns about it falling off and hitting a child because children play under it. Also I saw birds flying into the roof so who knows what else is in the buildings structure. I have video proof of that as well. If you're looking for an apartment go somewhere else because they don't care about you or your apartment. I've seen people drag there clothes outside and take them somewhere else just to wash them because they didn't get to them in a timely manner and I've had to do the same thing. Go somewhere else that is a little more expensive so you don't go through all the above issues.
The previous comment must have been a friend of the property manager b/c she worse than the last one. If you decide to move here don't base it off of the rental office, or all of the dog poop in the grass. The apartment itself is nice, the neighbors is a hit or miss. It's somewhere to live for the time being.
I’ve been living here for almost two years now. I have to say this is a great place to live! It’s very quiet, nice residents, and staff is always friendly. Anytime I have a problem, I call Stephanie! She is a life saver. Anything I need she makes sure it’s done in a timely manner and done right! I really am glad I decided to move here! I recommend to all family and friends!
Im a bachelorette and i live in a 1 bedroom apartment with a den. I absolutley love it . its spacious and cozy. The staff are proffesional and ready to help if you have any questions or in need for maintenance. The pool area has 2 on duty life guards who rotate every two hours ensure safety of people in the swimming pool. The complex it self is very clean and the lawn and trees are kept well manicured.Tall OAK Apartments is one of the best apartment complex I have ever lived in
The Tall oaks community is an average community for the price. Honestly I have seen better for less. The landscaping is horrible, and outside of the main area everything else is horrible.
I only have a little problem with my work-order request not being attended to in an appropriate manner. I didn't think I would have to wait so long for my service request to be completed. It does start to feel like nobody cares.
I am very big when it comes to having a parking spot when I get home from work. Sometimes I don't get home till almost 9pm. And the worst feeling anyone could have is to find out that there is no parking spot where you reside. Having said that, I love where i am because I always have great parking spot whenever I get home.
Our apartment is just like owning your own home. It is spacious enough for all my items and more. We have fixed it up the way we want to live in it. We are grateful that we came by to look at these because they were not our first choice. No noise, no issues that can't be solved. The staff is very friendly. I needed a work area without it being in my living room/dining area. Guest what my walk in closet was big enough for my Redskins work area. Thanks Tall Oaks.
My husband and I moved to Tall Oaks in July 2014. Pros: We have very few bugs, in 13 months I think I have killed like 3 spiders and 6 flies. Like I love how few bugs there are! No problems with rodents or any of that. In general the place seems clean. (We are on the middle floor) The location is great for walking to stores and I even can walk to my doctor's office and the dentist. For the most part, the office is responsive to requests for maintenance, although it sometimes takes them longer than some other apartments I have lived at take, but not too bad. The place seems relatively safe. Occasionally we see cop cars and once there was a mobile crime lab. But other than those few times, we haven't had any problems with safety in our home or in the area. Cons: It was great for the first few months, but then the noise was really bad for about six months. Super noisy neighbors. You can hear everything that happens in the hallway and neighbors seem to have parties late into the night, but isn't that a problem at any apartment complex? The cost of rent is nearly not affordable for us, but for the area it actually isn't too bad. (The DC area is so expensive!!) We considered moving when our lease was up because the rent is just so high for a one bedroom apartment, but found that the price was okay in comparison to other places and the ones that were a little less had bad reviews. We decided to stay since we do not have any terrible issues. The parking lot spaces are super narrow so sometimes that can be a pain. I have to squeeze to get out of my car a lot of the time. I am surprised my car hasn't been dented yet from other car doors. Also it can be hard to get a spot near our door. Ultimately, if you need to rent an apartment in this area and can deal with the price, the place isn't bad. It's not perfect, but what place is? We renewed our lease, but probably will only stay for the second year and then will have to move, because the rent increase next year will push us beyond what we will pay.
The buildings are a little older. Staff was excellent! They let us turn in something late, which was a relief. They let us know up front that noise was an issue. Just reasonable the entire time. Maintenance was fine. They had to come back twice to fix the lock on the door, but besides that, they changed the shower head and debugged our apartment just fine. Neighbors or the neighborhood never caused me any trouble. I think it's great if you're looking for a cheap, spacious place to live.
I enjoy the size of the apartment, however the closet in the bedroom was not designed efficiently. The management is mediocre, they are slow to respond with maintenance. However, the pool is nice and has decent hours. It's good for a temporary living situation. I would not make it home though.
Great community, attentive management. You'll love it here
All I can say is don't go by the reviews. I was skeptical when i saw reviews on Google but thought of giving it a visit to confirm it myself. I loved the apartment and been living here for the past 6 months. Staff was good and responded to maintenance requests appropriately.
Ms. Chetna Sheth is awesome! I've never felt more welcomed at an apartment community. So many leasing agents are phony or distant, but I felt genuinely welcomed and listened to at Tall Oaks. I plan to tell all my friends about them!
I have been here almost a year. I was very scared of some of the reviews I read about these apartment. But when I visited I talked to Nisha and she is very professional and personal. She very helpful and she aim to please. So I took a chance and signed a lease. I brought some bugs spray because of what I read and until this day I haven't use the spray or seen one bug. Whenever I have a problem, they are on it. They try really hard to bring the community together. They have movie night, Ice cream social and one time they had coffee and donuts to start your day. That's the kind of these I just really like about this place. They don't have to do these things but they do. The only thing wrong with these apartments are, you can hear your neighbors. But I live in a buliding where we do repect each other. But the staff, maintenance, and the space in the apartments are enough to make me sign the lease again.
I am currently looking for a new place to live and decided to check out Tall Oaks on Saturday. Even though the office was busy Ms. Nisha said she would be with me as soon as she could. She was very professional with a delightful attitude. She was very knowledgeable and addressed every concern that I had. The model apartment was beautiful and I was sold. If everyone in the office is as sweet as she is then I know that this will be an enjoyable place to live.
Words cannot express how shocked I am. Tall Oaks has impressed me! In the past six months, I have noticed my concerns being addressed quickly, my service calls taken care of faster than before, and this weekend's fesitival was amazing! Paul & Tuba did a great job and this really shows that EVERYONE at Tall Oaks truly is making efforts! Keep up the great work guys!
I went to look at Tall Oaks - I had lived there several years ago. It was amazing!! The office staff was very friendly and efficient....they answered everything that I asked them. The renovations that they have done is wonderful...the kitchens and bathrooms and the community seems to have improved. I was very impressed!!
Where do I start uhmmmmm........ Living here is been a good experience nothing bad to say. The walls are thin yes, but the people in my building are all working people and we get along with eachother. The staff at the leaseing office are the best, and stay on top of any issues. Replacing blinds and all **cough Cough** My lease is about to be up and i am going to renew. This place does have have the best bang for you buck. It's also easy to get around 10mins from 495, and 295 is up the street. Anyways, Overall i'm happy with this place nice and quite away from all the crazyness
My family and I just moved to this apartment this year. I can say that this has been the best experience in looking and finding an apartment home. The leasing consultant Nisha was very professional, polite, understanding and worked with us to make the transition smooth. Also the manager Paul is very approachable and polite. I have nothing but good comments about the management and staff of Tall Oaks Apartments. Everybody from the maintenance staff to the office staff are very professional and polite. On top of all that the neighborhood is very quiet, no problems, our apratment home is very spacious and warming. It was overall the best experience. My family and I have already decided that we are staying here for awhile based on the experience we have had so far.
I've lived in this community for just about a year and I've experienced nothing but amazing service. My leasing rep Tuba has always been professional and concerned about our needs as residence. The rest of the office staff is amazing as well. The community is always quiet the grounds are always clean and maintenance is always available. I plan on renewing my lease and continuing to be a resident here at Tall Oaks I'd recommend this place to anyone
I have had a great experience so far living at Tall Oaks. The community is very quiet and peaceful. This could not be a better location to live that is surrounded by everything you need or want. Ms. Sheth has helped us establish a very quiet and comfortable living here at Tall Oaks.
I have lived at Tall Oaks for two years and it has been a good experience so far. I love the location (about 2 minutes to 295). The staff has been nothing but professional and courteous. Especially Nisha. Maintenance has always been handled in a timely manner. The grounds are kept tidy. Close to grocery stores and target. Nice pool and a simple small work-out room.
horrible horrible place to live. The staff members/maintenance are the worst. Do they have a property manager because he/she never addresses tenants issues.
