Located along the Hackensack River in Bergen County, Teaneck is a terrific town with tree-lined streets, river views, and a major university. Fairleigh Dickinson University is the state's largest private university, established in 1942. Teaneck, settled by the Dutch around 1700, features several historic locations. One of those, the Banta-Coe House on the university campus, is one of New Jersey's oldest colonial homes, built around 1700. Other homes built in the 1700s include the Brinkerhoff-Demarest House (1735) and the Caspar Westervelt House (1763).
