Property Ratings at The Alden
I live here now and my neighbor (the building in front of me) was killed about a month ago. I've seen roaches and am so glad I didn't sign a full year lease. I can't control the heat even though there's a thermostat in my apartment. They sent me a renewal offer for at least $100 more per month but the roaches are still appearing in the crevices of my apartment and scaring my children. I give 2 stars instead of 1 because maintenence answers very quickly.

I have lived here for a year and I can honestly say you pay for what you get. Terrible customer service that is rarely available during business hours, moving in and signing a lease was hell and moving out is even a bigger hell. I have called the office multiple times in the past week during regular business hours and could rarely get in contact with a leasing associate or management, I would just be sent to a third party consultant who would take a message from me - from which I would never get a call back. I don't know if this is an issue from being understaffed or what, but if I sent an email on a Monday and haven't received a response more than a week later, either the communication system is malfunctioning, or someone is not doing their job. Also, the current online portal which they just switched too rarely works, other than paying rent, the features such as looking at your lease or contacting support do not work at all. From living here there were multiple issues, from when I first entered the apartment it was clear they did not care about the cleanliness at all. Trash behind and inside the heater, dust all over the air conditioner, the vents in my kitchens had been poorly painted over so the enter vent was covered causing poor air circulation, the paint on the bathroom ceiling was chipped and falling down on me. Not to mention the dirty light fixtures, I had to change a bulb once and discovered out of the 2 sockets in the ceiling light one was completely eroded and you could only fit one bulb in the light. Even the entire building is poorly managed, there would be a constant beeping noise at the front where a security system was that no one in months would come to fix. And the basement laundry... good lord... when i first saw it it looked like something out of a horror movie. It was this poorly lit disgusting basement with dirt, dust, and god knows what underneath the washers and dryers (which if I may mention rarely worked and even when they did they made my clothes smell terrible).
Exactly I rate it a big fat 0. Scheduled an appointment to see an apartment. My daughter wants to get a place of her own. The appointment time was 4:30. Arrived on time, there was a sign on the front door explaining they had to close from 2:00-4:30. Ok, 15 minutes went by and by this times there were 4 other people standing around waiting for someone to come. Well the red flags went up for sure in mind. And no one showed. 5: 00 came and still no one. I called the number on the door numerous times and no one answers (RED FLAG #2) and then it sends you directly to a call center type thing and that person could not help, BIG JOKE!! but, did say just wait a few more minutes someone may/should be coming! Are you kidding me!! Well NOPE.STILL NO ONE. In the meantime a mother with I believe her sons who were there in the morning signed a lease and were told to come back at 4 for there keys after just handing this place alot of money several hours earlier. To just come there and stand around for an hour (it may have been longer) and to have no one there. Not sure if anyone ever showed up because I left. Plus after hearing all the horror stories about how this place is ran and how the apartments smell and issues with bugs. NO THANK YOU. This place needs better management, maintenance etc. Because honestly where it's located is a nice area but with this type of management it makes this place AWFUL!! I would recommend stay away. Not worth it.
Me and my wife lived here twice for a year each time. The amount of times I had to call maintenance for my heat not working properly where it’s 85+ degrees in my apartment and the heat is still pumping, they show up, say the issue was fixed then within 24 hours back to 85 degrees. We literally had to move our bed into the living room (no central air) so that we wouldn’t sweat profusely throughout the night. Both times we moved out they’ve tried to charge us a minimum of $3000 every time. The entire staff is a joke, from maintenance all the way to the property manager. NEVER. MOVE. HERE. They had my car towed from the parking lot, with the parking sticker clearly visible, then refused to reimburse me for their own error. They claim to have ‘in building laundry’ in my two years living there the washers and/or dryers never worked. Put in numerous maintenance tickets and pretty much got told ‘oh well’ every time. My neighbor across the courtyard had 2 massive dogs that just barked 24-7, called to complain and ask them to do something about it for 9 months…‘not our problem’ this place is a cancer. The prices are reasonable because you’re getting terrible customer service and amenities. Do not fall for it, please.
Horrible. DO NOT MOVE HERE!!! YOU SEE THE REVIEWS. THEY ARE ALL THE SAME . ROACHES AND UNPROFESSIONALISM AND LOUSY MAINTENANCE. THE ROACHES TREATED ME BETTER THAN THEM. The lady hangs up on me because she don't like my email complaining how they are. If you can't handle the job then find a new one. Your bad attitude reflects your tenants attitude. My first email last December 2021 asking for help with late fees was nice. If you like being mistreated from landlord then DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!
No one that lives here care about cleanliness people take there trash out and drag it down the hall way leaving a snail trail sometimes just leave it in the hall way for weeks Very dangerous to walk at night also might get your car keyed
I moved into a 2 bedroom apartment during the midst of COVID and we weren't able to tour the apartments except for watching a Facebook Live walk-through. The only good thing I have to say about this place is the kindness of a few of the office staff members. The maintenance team is polite when they come in to actually fix something, which would usually take over three months. We placed a work order that didn't get resolved until a month before our lease was ending....a year later. These apartments are dirty - there was trash behind our radiators and our carpets were stained when we moved in, we had issues with mold in the bedrooms and windows that were never taken care of, and we had tiny ants in our bedrooms and hall closet. When moving out and clearing everything out of our apartment, we had winged termites find their way into our bathroom through the shower and when maintenance came into take care of it, they said there "was no issue" even though there were hundreds of dead bugs in our tub. Our thermostat started crackling and we were worried about possible fires starting but the emergency after-hours maintenance crew said they "wouldn't come to look at it" and to "just turn your thermostat off" (it was the middle of winter.). They said they would bring us space heaters (which would mean we would have to pay extra electricity) and then called us and said they wouldn't even do that much. The maintenance and customer service are a joke with this place. The walls are absolutely paper thin and you can hear the conversations of your neighbors, which in our case, was not fun due to the overwhelming number of children. The amenities they boasted were not available to us, yet our rent stayed at the same rate. The "in building washers and dryers" are one washer and one dryer per building and they're disgusting. There was evidence of rats in our basement where the laundry was and the neighbors never removed their clothing, and every time you used the washers they ruined your clothes. Please save your money, I've never been as miserable as I was living here.

It was nice to see diversity in the tenants here in the Alden, however my roommates and I were disappointed once we moved in. Twice we were notified by management and threatened with lease violations because we were allegedly not cleaning up after our pet. We were given no proof for the false accusations. Sounds from other tenants are clear as day from up above and around our unit. It is noisy all day and late into the night. Several times I have been awoken by tenants running around and shouting around 2 or 3 a.m. before an early shift at work. The walls are so thin that I have been able to hear conversations word for word. A few months into our lease we were notified that we had to start paying a gas bill. Had we known about this additional charge we would have stayed where we were living beforehand. Not only did we have to pay the utility bill going forward, we had to pay for the prior months. Our apartment is flooded with cigarette smoke on a daily basis from the neighbors. We have had to air out our apartment, light candles, and have our air purifier running 24/7. We received no response from management after 4 months and counting. The washer/dryer situation on our apartment building is trash. There was a point where a post-it note was on the dryer for several weeks saying that it was being fixed. The laundry room smells like rotten eggs, musty, unprofessional and outdated; the dryer looks older than 20 years. I would not trust any of my clothes in either of the laundry appliances. My roommates and I have had to go to a laundromat and friends' homes to get our laundry done. Sure there is a gym room but it is only open during their office hours and chances are that you, like the majority of people in the lower and middle classes, work during those hours and cannot possibly utilize the gym area at any time. Lastly, there are no recycling trash bins. Instead, tenants were sent an email from management asking us to be mindful of our environment and recommend that we drive 7+ miles to Hazelwood in order dispose of our recycling. I feel like the Alden apartments have the potential to be a great place to live and to be an example of innovation and creativity to other apartment complexes in this city. But I think that their management needs to improve the living conditions of their buildings and work on their response turnaround times before that can happen.

I moved in here in March, couldn't look at the apartment ahead of time. Screens were busted, the wall was caved in in the living room...Roaches...lets not forget those...It looked nothing like the models. There is trash every where. My apartment constantly smells like marijuana from the neighbors. The neighbors are so loud, it is always cold in the apartment. People park in front of the entrance to the parking lot. I've had strange men stare in my door and try to enter my apartment several times

I've only been here a little over a week and it hasn't been amazing. I moved into what was supposed to be a brand new renovated apartment only to be without hanging rods in my closet, a window with no window screens in the common area, and the bathroom pipes exposed in my second bedroom closet. I've been waiting for over a week for maintenance to come and fix it, however, they've been making excuses not to show. First it was about me asking them to come in during a certain time of day due to my job and then they said that they had more orders that were more than an emergency than mine due to people not having heat in 200 buildings. Then I get a survey email about a follow up....but my issues are still not fixed So now I'm posting this to see if I will be taken seriously. I may not have an issue similar to the 200 other buildings but I am a new tenant that's paying for a premium apartment with no hanging rods, a window screen, and exposed bathroom pipes in a bedroom closet...Plus my neighbors are incredibly loud and always yelling and cussing out their kids....I was looking forward to this place when I first found it, but right now I'm frustrated.

Been here 4 months and the customer service is horrible. I called, and emailed for over 2 weeks requesting a new parking spot in the garage because of debris falling from the ceiling. I sent pictures and put in a work order only to be told there was nothing that could be done. Only after my windshield cracked and I showed up in the office did I finally get a new space but the manager refused to pay for the damage to my car. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!

This property has changed hands twice since I’ve moved in. But the management and maintenance that we have now at the Alden are so much better than previous owners. They listen and empathize with any issues that come up. They do everything they can to rectify the issue in a timely manner. I highly recommend. Kind staff. Prompt maintenance. I am very happy to live here.

This apartment complex is managed by poorly. Maintaince does not repair anything. Bait and switch on apartment pricing with animals being uncontrolled.
Alden South hills apartment management and admin are very unprofessional. I didn’t even get a chance to move in. At first I did ignore the comment from previous reviews but now I believe them. My experience with them was horrible. First they went back in forth with me about getting a month free of rent after they had offered that to me in the first place. Another thing is when we went to speak with them about the agreement before signing lease the whole staff expect one person seem to have an attitude with us asking questions. Also before we left we over heard them speaking about us in such a way I would never speak about anyone. Kitty did reach out to try to apologize but we advised her that we are no longer interested in becoming apart of Alden apartments if that’s the way they speak about their tenants. I couldn’t believe it was admin and also a manager speaking on us in such a way. I wouldn’t recommend staying there just because they seem to try and rush you into signing and paying before you are fully aware and comfortable with the agreements and terms

DO NOT RENT HERE, you will regret it. If I could put a “0” I would. Where do I start?!, if you have any children, and want to walk a few blocks to your house (you will have to walk several blocks to get to your place, it’s awful), want your car towed multiple times, car stolen, car broken into, rude neighbors, this is the place for you. Don’t expect any privacy, you can hear your neighbors through the paper thin walls. Maintenance barely exists. Don’t plan on putting anything in your basement, feel free to take your bathing suit down, and take a swim. The bathrooms are disgusting and my place was updated. Also, your deposit, don’t plan on getting that back. If you want to have guests visit, you’re better off telling them to Uber to your place because there isn’t anywhere for them to park. I signed a 1 year lease, and moved out 6 months later. Had I read the reviews prior to signing my lease, I would’ve never moved here. IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN, IT ISNT SAFE HERE.

Hi Andrea, We're sorry to to hear that your stay in our community was not enjoyable. We appreciate you taking the time to write this review. We will document your feedback so we can use it as we strive to make The Alden an even better place to live.
I’ve lived here for 2 years. You can’t control the heat in your apartment, my electric bill is higher in the winter than it is the summer (currently 76 degrees inside my apartment with windows open). Management doesn’t care about your complaints. Trust me, I’ve tried. Pit bulls are on the restricted breed list, therefore not allowed. I see 3 in my small group of apartments every single day. One owner has 2 and does not clean up their dog poop which is littered all around. The kids are not behaved well at all. Littering everywhere, screaming and throwing rocks. My car has been vandalized twice since I’ve lived here. They boast that they have a “police presence” on the complex, it is an UNMANNED Baldwin police substation. I called the cops when my car was vandalized and it took 30 min for a cop to drive less than 2 miles to me. This is not close to anything. Century 3 mall is dead. They will tow your car if you park sideways in your spot, the tow company comes around at 2am and looks for stickers that they give you to put in your car window. Ants. Everywhere. But yeah. It’s great for a 40 min drive to Oakland price wise. I just recommend going somewhere else.

If I could give this place a zero I could! The worse decision I have ever made in my whole life !! DONT DO IT DONT MOVE TO THIS PIECE OF TRASH OF AN APARTMENT COMPLEX... MANAGEMENT IS NOT HELPFUL AND MAINTENANCE 1/2 COMPLETES WORK !!! THEY USED TAPE TO FEEL IN A BIG GAP!! TOLD THEM I AM ALLERGIC TO LATEX TO PAINT WHEN I AM NOT HOME! THEY OPENED THE PAINT IN FRONT OF ME AND STARTED PAINTING!!! I CANT WAIT FOR NEXT YEAR !!! I AM OUT !! THEIR CHEMICALS GOT INTO COCO’S FOOD AND WATER... I CAME HOME FROM WORK TO BLOOD IN HER STOOL AND CLOUDY WATER. THEY DONT COVER YOUR FURNITURE WHEN WORKING OR PAINTING! I HAD TO COME IN AND COVER IT MYSELF!! THEY LOOKED AT ME LIKE I WAS CRAZY!! THEY SEEM TO ALWAYS COME AS I AM GETTING OUT THE SHOWER OR TUBE. THEY DID THE CEILING IT WAS NO GOOD.... SO THEY HAD TO COME BACK AND CUT A HOLE TO REDO EVERYTHING I COMPLAINED FOR 2 WEEKS BEFORE MY CEILING FELL IN 2 FRIDAYS AGO... THEY DID NOTHING. BUT TOLD ME TO USE MY GARBAGE CAN TO CATCH THE WATER AND PLACED A BLACK GARBAGE BAG ON MY FLOOR TO CATCH WATER... WHICH DIDNT HELP SINCE 2 FRIDAYS AGO THEY’VE BEEN AT MY APARTMENT DOING REPAIRS ONLY TO COME BACK BECAUSE IT WAS DONE INCORRECTLY AND MY CEILING WAS SOAKED AGAIN. THEY KEEP HALF DOING THE WORK IN MY APARTMENT. SO I ASKED TO MOVE I HAVE ASTHMA AND THE MOLD AND MILDEW IS HURTING MY CHEST WHEN THE HOLE IS OPENING. I ALSO TOLD THEM I AM BECOMING A FOSTER MOM AND RIGHT NOW CHILDREN CANT LIVE HERE BECAUSE OF THE CONDITIONS. STEPHANIE THE MANAGER TOLD ME THE APARTMENT IS STILL SAFE TO LIVE IN. EVEN WITH MY KITCHEN LIGHT DRIPPING WATER. SHE TOLD ME IF SHE MOVES ME IN A NEW APARTMENT I HAVE TO PAY THE NEW APARTMENT’S PRICE AND THEY WE’LL NOT PAY FOR MOVERS BECAUSE ME MOVING IS A PERSONAL CHOICE!! SHE ALSO SAID I WOULD HAVE TO PAY 2 MONTHS OF RENT FOR BREAKING THE LEASE A TOTAL OF $1,396. BECAUSE I COULD STILL “LIVE AROUND IT”
I relocated to Pittsburgh from NYC. On my first day moving into my apartment I found live cockroaches in the kitchen when moving my belongings from the car into the apartment. I was so upset that I didn't listen to all the reviews I read about this apartment complex having cockroaches and rats. Because trust me, I have saw dead rats outside of the dumpsters in the morning. I was so stressed with only 2 weeks to find somewhere else to live before starting my job, all because this apartment complex was so under-kept . It was a HORRIBLE experience! The fact that there were live roaches in that apartment on move in day means that they were living there with the previous tenant. Secondly, the whole building had to have roaches because that apartment was on the second floor. I will say that not all apartments have pest issues but its literally luck of the draw. Up to you if you would want to take that chance. Think carefully. Also the staff is sweet but VERY INCOMPETENT... the lie a lot when they do not know the answers to questions.. dealing with them is a pain!
There is no parking. The apartments look nothing like the pictures. There is trash everywhere. The walls are paper thin. A quick search (I wish I had done) will show an astronomical crime rate. If you complain about any of those things to management they will completely ignore you. Being homeless would actually be preferable to living here. Do not walk, run away.
While I was living, there was bug everywhere throughout my stay. and now I moved out and they sent me the balance statement and never sent me my deposit. I have been calling the office but no luck, most of the time nobody picks up the phone and when someone does they have no idea about my deposit. Such an unprofessional people, I would definitely don't recommend this place.
This place is absolutely awful! We moved here without any knowledge of the area, so when we saw cheap, we went for it.. after 1 week I wanted to move. The staff is horrible, so rude and unorganized. One of many examples.. I locked my keys in my car and needed to get into the apartment, management and staff came with 100 different keys, trying them all. (None of which worked, I had to have a lock smith change the whole lock). The apartment s are not what they look like in pictures, and through pictures you can't smell the HORRIBLE oder of cat pee and dirty foreigners. Every building has kids running around with no shoes, and digging in the garbages. I am a comllete clean freak abd our apartment still managed to have bed bugs AND roaches. Parking is horrible, and maintenance sucks. We ended up staying for the year we leased and got the he'll out of there. Once we became familiar with area we realized there were so many other options! We now rent in Brentwood in a beautiful town home for the same amount! Please save your money and don't rent here.
Been here for 2 months and I am fed up. The staff pretends to be friendly to get your money, but it's not till you sign the lease and live here that you see how rude and unsympathetic the staff truly is. Took them over a month and a half to respond to the functional issues in my apartment. Not to mention the information they provide to you is misleading. They make it seem like trash removal and water will be taken care of for you, but they fail to inform you that water is another fee on top of your rent. I'm highly disgusted with this place. I can't wait for my lease to be up next May I will not be renewing. I encourage anyone looking for a place to take your hard earned money elsewhere to a place where you'll be appreciated and treated respectfully!!!

There are problems here that are not being addressed. I am somewhat embarrassed to have family and friends visit because of it. The pillars are a disgrace. The yard looks like a garage can from the kids. My garage door needs painted and I have asked for three years. And other things. But, I really like my apartment. I close my door and try not to look outside.
Recommend street be lined and assign parking. REPLACE HANDICAP PARKING SIGNS THAT HAVE BEEN CUT DOWN. put up some benches so we could enjoy outside. The pool needs to be open. People should be required to abide the dog rules. No dogs over 40lbs and that includes pit bull puppies whose owners can't control them.
I get tired of the office staff's attitude all the time. We go to great lengths to be open and communicative and it always seems to be met with resentment. This place was nicer when we first moved here, and I am hoping that the buyout (or whatever) brings some positive change.
If you like roaches, mice, stinky neighbors and management lying and trying to steal extra money for you than you picked the right place!! If you need something fixed forget about it cause maintenance will not fix it!! Never any parking most of the buildings stink. I loved there for a year and refused to renew my lease I had so many problems. The lady in management tried to trick me and my fiancé out of a 90$ gas bill cause they claimed that they paid for our gas bill for the first month we lived there, which makes entirely no sense. Me and my fiancé had to dig through our bills and prove that we have paid all our bills for every month we lived there smh this place needs shut down!!!

The pictures are nice but the apartments are in disrepair. The pool was broken half of last summer and has yet to open this summer. The very best part is the 350 charge I had to pay when I got bed bugs how is still the ultimate question. Other apartments have had roaches. I was spared that (they spray for free) The bed bugs was the ultimate nightmare. If that isn't already have your skin crawl when have huge rats living under porches (that are still missing roofs on different buildings) and around dumpsters. Yes they are aware of all of these conditions. The amenities are LIES. The rent is not reflective of the conditions we live in.

I would because I truly love my apartment. As long as I don't have to deal with the staff in anyway I am happy here. The staff has rubbed me so wrong that I'm looking at leaving to another complex if it is possible.
I am not sure if I would recommend this apartment complex to family and friends because when you put in work orders either it takes to long to get fixed or they don't fix it completely
I would recommend because of overall good experience. Would have not wanted to live in a building woth alot of pets. I'm not a pet owner
I going to do a formal complaint through this way to see if there is someone who is interested in the future of this business, because the most important value you have in this property are not bildings, they are your customers, because without them none of you would have work. I recently moved and paid the proportion of the rent and water bill. I have no debt until next month, but I get a threatening letter to send me to court if I did no pay what I was supposed to owe. This is a very unpleasant situation and I hope it does not happen again with anyone. Everybody in the office is nice and and very helpful, but I don’t know who is the responsible for these unpleasant actions. Very cordially, CMS I attached the letter I received. NOTICE TO QUIT Dear MS, YOU HAE VIOLATED THE THERMS OF THE LEASE BY NOT MAKING RENTAL PAYMENTS AND WATER PAYMENTS. TO DAY(APRIL 20, 20170, YOU OWE:300 IN RENTAL PAYMENTS WHICH IS DUE AND HAS BEEN PREVIOSLY DEMANDED, YOUR LEASE IS TERMINATED AND YOU MUST LEAVE THE LEASED PREMISES WITHIN 10 DAYS. I've dealt with constant roach infestations in my kitchen & bathroom, trash all around the dumpster, on the porch & in the yard, upstairs neighbors are constantly yelling & fighting or making any kind of noise all hours of day & night, not enough parking for residence, noise complaints to rental office go unresolved, roach issue has been ignored for past few months, when I addressed the parking issue I was told parking is not guaranteed for residents. This is the worst place EVER!!!

I rented from this place because of the leasing staff was very knowledgeable and upfront about everything. They took me step by step with the process and because they explained everything to me, I was very comfortable with renting from them. I received a phone call to see how my stay has been and felt that I needed to give a great review because they take the time to help and have added that personal touch to my stay here. For the price you can't beat the location being so close to everything. I definitely recommend this place because of the price point and the customer service I have received.

Wish Management, maintenance, groundskeeper and ONWER would wake up. This place is the dirtiest place. More and more BUGS roaches & bed bugs. Rats bigger than cats! Neighbors so inconsiderate, I work 9-10 hours 6 days a week, they don't work, only work they do is party all night when I sleep or try to. I have ask management to do something but instead I see management partying with them!

Currently living here, after 2 yrs of living we found bed bugs. Last year 2015 October. Now in February they send a bill and ask us to pay over $300 for treatment. This people think we are stupid. Saying its in written in the lease lol like we can't read. I think since we have decided not to renew the lease they want us to pay for it. I told them to treat the entire building for bed bugs, which will make the treatment effective. But no they are cheap and always cutting corners. Don't waste your money or time. We will be calling coorperate .
I have had my apartment since Dec 15th 2015 and I have already had way too many issues to count. Megan is horrible and she is supposedly management. She has lied to me numerous times. The first time she lied to me was when I was going to sign my lease. She told me I could see the unit I would be staying in when I went in on Sunday to sign. So I went in to sign the lease and to my surprise she didn't tell me that I needed money orders to pay for my apartment and she also didn't tell me that I needed a money order to pay the Bureau of Baldwin $60! So I had to leave and then go back and start the process of signing my lease. So I was reading through my lease and to my surprise (since I read everything but electricity is included) I have to pay $22 extra a month. I signed my lease and asked Bill to take me to my unit to which he informed me he couldn't leave the office since he was the only one here. That is right- I signed my lease and couldn't even see my apartment. So the following Monday I called and spoke with Megan (again) who told me the unit she is putting me in isn't even ready yet even though she told me I could see it when I went in to sign my lease. It took me until the beginning of January to finally get my parking passes. I couldn't access my mailbox because it was broken so I as filed a maintenance request to have it fixed. They fixed it on January 4th and didn't tell me they put a new lock on it and my new keys were in the office until I filed another maintenance request on Jan 20th. Megan told me she couldn't get me a copy of my lease until after her manager signed off on. That went on for weeks, she continued to tell me they hadn't signed it yet. So when I asked her if it were possible to get out of my lease easier since they hadn't signed it she replied back with they have signed it. It wasn't until I got my lease on January 11th that I saw they didn't sign it until December 28th. She told me they had already signed it on December 22nd. So that was lie # 2. The floor plans are pointless because I wanted floor plan 'B' because it had a big walk in closet but to my surprise the apartment I signed a lease to did not have that. The management team is inadequate. I asked them to install a hang bar in my bedroom closet so I could hang my clothes- they put it in the hallway closet. Oh and the smell. The hallway smells like a dead corpse that has excrement all over it. All this in the first month that I have actually had the apartment.
The interior of the apartment is pretty nice for the amount. One fair sized bedroom and one tiny room for $696/mo. including water, sewage, and central heat. The kitchen is plain but in good shape, if small. The rest of the interior is small but functional. The exterior is in rough shape. There should be four large pillars holding up a high porch but management is letting them rot to the point that one fell down a month ago and had to be replaced the following weekend (not day). The other pillars are rotting themselves and the new one is not painted. Management does not listen. Only half of the apartment had electricity for the first several weeks we were here. They ignored my wife and only got moving once I threatened small claims' court. They routinely move slowly for a broken washer, broken beer bottles in the parking lot, and other items. This could be a nice place but the management holds it back.
My boyfriend and I have been living in this apartment complex for about a year now. We recently decided to renew our lease for another year. There were lots of reasons why we thought this was a good idea, but mostly this location is just entirely too convenient to pass up on right now. Although we have a vehicle, the bus line still proves to be convenient. We consistently take advantage of the plaza up the street that literally has anything we ever need. There's a full grocery store, dollar store, craft store, nail salon, subway, Dunkin Donuts, AND a rite-aid! There's also a gas station among these things as well which consistently has some of the lowest prices in the city. The leasing staff has been a giant help to us since day one with making the initial lease signing and renewal a breeze. I'm sure, if we looked really hard, we could find something to complain about but there are just way too many positives to consider the negatives. I can confidently speak for both of us in recommending the residences of south hills to anyone looking for something affordable and conveniently located.
For the most part, this apartment community is really not that bad. It's pretty well maintained, and the leasing office is helpful. The leasing office staff is small but somehow they manage to make each tenant feel appreciated and valued. I've only been living here for a year (just renewed the lease 2 weeks ago) but I honestly don't mind being here for another year. the bus line is convenient, and there's a great pool and fitness area. Not to mention the immensely convenient Rite-Aid and Family Dollar just up the street. They also just put up a brand new grocery store within walking distance! I'm sure if I tried, I could find something to complain about, but the good definitely outweigh the bad.
I love the townhouses at Residence of South Hills. The living room and dinning room is one area; however, it is big enough to be separate to be two rooms. With the living room being a good size and the dinning room being a medium size, enough room for a kitchen table plus a cabinet, and hutch. The kitchen is small but nice, just big enough for two people who like to cook and clean together. There are two bedrooms upstairs, the master bedroom is the bigger one, with a huge closet, the second bedroom is nice as guest room or office with a medium size closet. There are plenty of closet spaces, with a huge basement that has washer dryer hook-ups for a laundry room also big enough to double as a play room and storage room. There is a small patio area out your back porch where you can have a BBQ and sit down and relax with a beer after work. Plenty of grassy areas to play with the kids, or to have fun with friends playing paint ball or to have water balloon fights.
Unsecured buildings are the leading cause for trouble with noise and damage/trash of public access ways. Also, i submitted a maintenance request to fix a bubble in my ceiling and they came out to take pictures and never came back to fix.
Perfect location as far as nearness to downtown Pittsburgh, hospitals, public transportation. Family oriented with pool and playground areas. Looking forward to see how the new management will continue to upgrade the property.
I've lived here about two years now. This is my first place by myself I moved here from Georgia after separating from my wife, during my time here I've met people and and learned the area o live in. My apartment is cozy I've turned it into home to say the least. I'm fairly satisfied with my apartment but in need of more space for storage but overall blessed to be in my own space.
They give you a pretty pamphlet, they tell you the apartments are newly renovated, well they lied. It started when we moved in ciggarette burns in the carpet, the floor in the bathroom is ripped up behind the door and is peeling off, they painted but I guess they couldn't find the same color so everything is two different blotchy colors, the only thing that was actually renovated was a new fridge a microwave and the stove. Every building has a washer and dryer unit in the basement, which is run by a seperate company, so when it broke it tookall most a month to get them fixed. The front door to the building has fallen off 6 times so far and they have taken up to 2 months to put a new one on. This is just the beginning. It gets worse....bugs, bugs everywhere. It doesn't matter how clean your apartment is, every month we get a visit from the exterminator....until it's winter, we didn't see him again till spring so all winter was a constant battle against roaches. It was so bad it actually made it into the news. Parking is a joke, my car has been hit twice and there are so many cars that have marks on them that the police told me there is nothing I can do. I will not be living here, and I hope this turns A couple people away.
My fiance and i just moved into what was supposed to be our "love nest" this month. This is both his and my first time purchasing a home and everything is really new to us. This is supposed to be a wonderful experience but daily there are issues that can't be ignored. For the most part i love the area i chose to live and it's very refreshing to see so many different people from different cultures living in one area together. The environment is peaceful and intimate. But the things i didn't know about my new apartment is the quality of products used to renovate these buildings are very cheap. My second day there my soap dish in my shower completely fell off the tile it was clear it was never secured enough to hold. Also my cabinet in my kitchen is loose the nails put in them were clearly not the ones initially for that purpose. On top of that my fiance used the shower and the drain completely clogged. Ughhhh! I also took a peek at our "laundry room" and it only has one washer and one dryer for a total of 8 people in the building. love the cleanliness of my apartment but it's things like that that make me feel cheated. I called maintenance for the fixable issues and surprisingly they came within the hour i called but i still feel like these issues aren't things we as new tenants should be facing so early in our stay. I can only hope things get better from here.
This place will blow a bunch of smoke at you ....the pool didn't open until June 21,2014. Most places have everything ready for Memorial day but not this place. The pool opened 2 days ago and now its an 85 degree day and the pool is closed for cleaning. HOW can it be dirty already??? They worry about getting people to move in that they waste more money handing out flyers than they do fixing things . The landscape crew is a joke , they miss half the grass when cutting .So many places flood or have sewage backups. They wont spend a few dollars to fix anything! They preach they are a community but that's a joke also!!!
