Property Ratings at The Alexander Apartments
Last night, someone broke the window of my car and stole my belongings. They also broke the windows of three other cars and took their belongings as well. When I spoke with the apartment management office, they told me that there are no security cameras and there’s nothing they can do about it. We pay a very high rent every month, but the apartment takes no measures regarding security. Additionally, I noticed that two months ago, other people’s car windows were also broken, and their important belongings were stolen, yet no measures were taken. I’ve been living in this residence since 2016. After it was purchased by another company in 2020, the rent increased while the quality and security decreased. Anyone considering renting here should think twice; this place is not safe at all. Imagine going to your car at night to get something or go somewhere, encountering these thieves, and they could harm you. Without any security cameras, no one will know, and you won’t know who harmed you. There’s a major security issue in this residence, and when I asked the manager today why they don’t install security cameras, their response was, “I’m not the owner,” showing a complete lack of concern.
I've move-out these apartments back on April 13th of this year 2023. I haven't received my deposit back. I had to contact the Better Business Bureau to reopen my case backup, I had previously made a complaint about this company about charging me for rent and utilities when everything was paid in full before I left. If I were you I would "RUN". There are other good affordable apartments out there.
It is impossible to get a response from the manager and also management. Every email I've ever sent to the property has gone unanswered. I have to email the manager four and five times to get any type of response. Previous management company was the complete opposite - so responsive and friendly. My apartment is great, neighbors & maintenance are great, that's the only reason for 2 stars. Grady's done more than enough damage, ratings overall have gone way down, every neighbor I talk to feels the same way. The management doesn't fit the vibe.
The building was great and safe until the new Grady management took over for the last two years or so and its just been going downhill, automatic garage door is broken for months leaving the building wide open to outsiders, packages that are delivered to the apartments front doors are getting stolen, package gets stolen from mail room, my guest car was broken into while its parked in a lit area right in-front of the elevator, by default you have to assume your car is not safe in the garage, food and medication are getting stolen, even building workers tools are getting stolen, gun shots fired right in front of the building, people fighting in front of the building on weekends is not unusual, I contacted the fornt desk to report the theft issues and I was told to contact the property manager, sent the property manager an email but no response, the main electric door has a common code that any can use to enter the building with having a fob, huge security flaws and zero safety, the property management is clearly not taking any corrective action to raise safety levels or make the Alexander a safe place again, do yourself a favor and find a safer place to live at.
It’s a decent building, and could be much better if it didn’t have structural design flaws. If you value your respiratory health or you have allergies or other respiratory issues, I wouldn’t recommend this place. My apartment receives exhaust from other apartments through my dryer and through my kitchen stove top vent. I was told by maintenance that its because of a failure of fans in the exhaust column in the building to successfully draw the air up and out, so negative pressure causes the exhaust to enter into the apartment through what is supposed to be exhaust. This matches how structural engineers explain this problem in high rises. They kept pretending to fix it, until finally the apartment management cancels my repair request and tells me the building is purposely built so that the exhaust from other apartments enters mine and there is nothing they can do about. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t built to have exhaust enter other apartments. So that’s not true, though it’s obviously true that they are either unwilling or incapable of fixing it. With the amount of respiratory disease going around, this is extremely unsafe and unsanitary. As I write this, I have my balcony door and bedroom window open, hoping that the odors of exhaust coming from the stove vent and dryer clear out. So, if you value your respiratory health, I wouldn’t recommend this place.

I have been living here at the alexander since August 2016. The alexander was the most comfortable luxurious building you can live in, until the Fairfield residential took over last year , and it became a total disaster literally disaster. No safety what so ever. They decided to let go the 24 hour concierge service of course to save the money, people stealing packages from the mailroom every single day just this month 3 of my packages went missing from the mailroom on 3 separate occasions and of course management said that's not their problem they are not responsible for packages or mail!! Ok so who is responsible?!!! Management team changed like 4 times every since Fairfield residential took over . Every employee is worst then ones before rude and unhelpful .Last saturday I went to turn my heat on and it was blowing cold air so I called the office and manager said sorry maintenance don't work on weekends if its an emergency you need to request it on the portal so I went on the resident portal put an emergency service request my heat not working and I HAVE A NEW BORN AT HOME and of course I didn't get a response until 3 days later on Tuesday morning. Is that even legal?!!! Please save your money and stay away from the Alexander
Property Manager at The Alexander Apartments, Responded To This Review

If you could contact me at info@gradymgt.com when you get the chance, that would be great. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.
The Alexander is a luxury apartment with a surprisingly great rate. The building is secured with garage parking to keep your car away from the elements, The apartments themselves come with stainless steel and granite counter tops. I've lived in the building for several years and never had any problems getting a response from the management office or having maintenace respond to a service request. I've lived in 3 different apartments in the building, a 1 bed/1 bath and two 2 bed/2bath. Some of the angles in the rooms makes it challenging to fit large furniture but it still gets 5 stars. If I could change one thing, I would make the club lounge open for 24 hours or later on the weekend. The location is perfect because it's less than 10 minute drive to DC and they have a free shuttle to pentagon city metro.
The building is really nice. The amenities are great... Gym, separate aerobics studio, pool, club lounge with billiards. There's a courtyard with grills and picnic area, just wish the grills were gas rather than charcoal. The staff and concierge are polite and helpful. They are very dog friendly and there are a lot of dogs who live here. I like living here and would love to continue staying, my only complaint is that when my lease renews, it's increasing by 10%. That's huge and the response from the leading office was that I could probably save a little money by moving into another unit... Wait, what? Why would it be cheaper for them to have to turn over two apartments? Isn't it more cost effective for them if I stay put? They won't have to paint or replace carpet or have a vacancy for any amount of time... But the leasing office says that's just how it works with them... I'm going to suck up the increase this year, but if it goes up this much again, I'm out. Other than that... I highly recommend for the location (next to the cheapest gas station in town btw) and amenities. I like it, just don't know how long I will be able to afford it.
I am very satisfied with The Alexander. When I was looking for an apartment, I wanted a place with upgraded features, an open floor plan, in a safe building, and something that wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. Initially I thought The Alexander would be out of my price range, but the specials on one-bedroom apartments made it so it was affordable. For the area, this is the nicest building I could find for the price. The building is secure with remote access to all the doors and the parking garage. There are plenty of spaces in the garage for parking, and there is a shuttle service to Pentagon City, which is very convenient and a money-saver for people like me who commute to DC for work. The area is good; close to 395, Shirlington Village, Target, grocery stores, Bradlee Center, etc. The apartment itself is spacious, at least the one-bedroom floor plan I have is. It’s nice to have my own washer and dryer and the upgraded kitchen (granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances) is fantastic for cooking and baking. Of course there are some aspects of The Alexander that I’m not crazy about. The office staff will sometimes give you different information, depending on who you speak with which I find irritating. The concierge or maintenance staff claim they are unable to unlock your apartment after the leasing office closes, which is frustrating if you accidentally lock yourself out. If this happens, you have to call a locksmith who will have you unlocked and in your apartment within 30 seconds; you just have to pay almost $200 for the service. There have been some recent issues with dogs having “accidents” in the elevators and the owners leaving it for the cleaning crew. I have walked into elevators on several separate occasions to find a puddle that (I hope) was left by an animal. This speaks more to the irresponsible dog owners than the office staff, since the leasing manager has sent out several notifications regarding this issue. Overall, I am so happy that I found and chose The Alexander. My lease will be up in a couple months and I fully intend to sign a new lease for another year. This is a great place to live!
The Alexander, known as the most modern and affordable apartment complex in Alexandria, Virginia, definitely lives up to its hype. The apartment consists of a lot of open space and wall to ceiling windows, which is great if you are a big fan of natural lighting. It has stainless steel appliances, with granite counter tops, lofty 10 foot ceilings, and cherry-wood cabinets. Don't like to share? No problem, as there is a washer and dryer in each unit. Unfortunately, the only feature I didn't get to enjoy was having a balcony, but from visiting friends in the building who do have it, I can say it's VERY spacious and it will be a challenge dragging you back inside. You would never guess that animals were allowed in the building. The place is spotless and always smells like a scented freshener. Not only do they provide treats in the lobby for your furry friends but each apartment consists of stain resistance Berber carpeting. This apartment redefines the meaning of pet/family friendly. You can spend your day at the pool working on your tan and afterwards grilling some delicious barbeque on the outside patio. Have to do homework? Use the renovated business center that provides free Wi-Fi, computers, printers, and fax machines for your business needs. Don't have time for the gym and don't want to sign up and waste your money? Luckily, you don't have to. There is a 24-Hour Fitness Studio and Aerobic/Yoga Room conveniently located in the lobby. Additionally, along with all the other perks of being a resident at the Alexander, there is also a movie room, billiard table, party area, in the upstairs club lounge with amazing views from the balcony of the Alexandria/DC area. The club lounge was the perfect place to throw a 4th of July party. The fireworks were easily seen as soon as you stepped outside the terrace. There are four levels of garage space for parking your vehicle(s) and if you're a metro rider, have no fear, a shuttle is provided to take you to the Pentagon City Station every 15 minutes. In conclusion, not only is the community beautiful but the management and maintenance team is great at promptly solving your needs. I definitely lucked out at finding this gem and becoming a resident. I can't imagine leaving, there is no place out here that can match all its features at such a great price. You will not go wrong living at the Alexander. What are you waiting for?
