Established in 1800, the Charlestown Navy Yard was one of the original six yards formed to support the United States Navy and is one of the oldest shipbuilding facilities for the military branch. For 174 years, this location was home to skilled works, naval officers, sailors, and the U.S. Marines. Today, it attracts thousands of tourists and offers lavish apartments, condos, and townhomes with awe-inspiring waterfront views.
The heart of the neighborhood is Charlestown Naval Shipyard Park and is preserved as a historic site open year-round for visitors. Charlestown Navy Yard is also home to two historic ships: USS Constitution and USS Cassin Young. For even more history, visit the Boston National Historical Park.
Locals frequent Paul Revere Park for scenic city views, public art, a dog park, and playground. Sailing is very popular here and you can learn to drive the boat at one of the many sailing schools in the area.

Property Ratings at The Anchorage
I recently completed a one-year stay in a studio apartment at The Anchorage Apartments. When I moved in, the unit was clean and ready for occupancy. Throughout my stay, I only had to contact maintenance twice: once to fix a closet door and another time to unclog the bathroom sink. Each time, Gerry, the maintenance superintendent, responded promptly and handled the issues with utmost professionalism and respect. The building has seen positive changes with the new building manager, who has excelled at keeping the community informed about ongoing construction and maintenance projects. Communication has been clear and timely, making life much easier for all residents. One of the highlights of my lease was that my unit was free from any pests—no bugs or mice—and I never had concerns about safety-no stolen packages. The hallways were always secure, with the only unfamiliar faces being food delivery personnel. The communal amenities, especially the laundry facilities, were well-maintained. The washing and drying machines were regularly cleaned and serviced. Although there were some recent issues with the laundry card loading machine, the management quickly addressed and resolved them, ensuring minimal inconvenience. I would have renewed my lease without hesitation if I had needed to stay in the area longer.
I have been a resident in this community for almost 5 years, and unfortunately, we are facing ongoing challenges related to stolen packages and a mice infestation. Regrettably, two of my packages, delivered to the mail/package room, were stolen on 11/19/2022 and 11/16/2023. Despite the efforts of Hannah and Gerry to review security footage, no leads were found. Once packages are taken from the package room, recovery becomes nearly impossible. Concerning the mice issue, Hannah and Gerry have been very supportive. Upon reporting the issue in July 2022, they provided multiple sticky mouse glue boards. Gerry inspected for possible entry points and sealed them with metal mesh under the sink. I personally captured 6 mice within 4 days, and later, an exterminator set up poison bait under the sink. Although Hannah shared insights on the potential sources of the mice, the problem persists. Even with the poison bait, I can still hear mice activity inside the walls every few months (especially when people are moving in/out). At least I haven't caught any in my apartment anymore.
Good location, great staff, clean. It is actually more like a low income senior housing building though. Many elderly hang in the lobby and just basically mill around. Not really a bad situation though.
The Anchorage, my home, I've stayed for almost 3 years. It was clean, neat, staffs were great and kind. They were always prompt responder to my callings even my emails. It was a pleasure to stay at the Anchorage. I really missed there.
I lived at the Anchorage for almost one year and all I have to say is good words! First, the price is fair enough compared to the surrounding area. The neighborhood is quiet and with easy access to the best places in town. The manager office is fast to fix any kind of problems. And last but not least, it is located in a gorgeous area in the heart of Navy Yard!
Property Manager at The Anchorage, Responded To This Review
Thank you! We are always thrilled to hear about resident’s positive experience at The Anchorage.
WARNING- DO NOT SIGN A LEASE HERE. They say usually when something is too good to be true, it usually is and this is the case with this building. Take the fact that the rent being much lower than any other building/apartments in Charlestown as a giant red flag. The apartment is full of strange tenants, the walls are paper thin and though the management is fairly quick to address problems that may arise their solution to fix them is strictly cosmetic. 99% of the time the same problem will occur again within the month. On top of that, The Anchorage is listed as a 'strictly no smoking' resident building. Yet it would take you 5 seconds after walking in the door to see how "strict" that policy really is. I would bet more than 50% of tenants smoke and it drifts into the hallway and neighboring units. Not only is this completely illegal but it is a serious health hazard to those who are involuntarily consuming second hand smoke on a regular basis. Laundry is $6.00 for 1 wash and 1 dry with the machine. Yet, more often than not, you return to get your clothes from the dryer and they are extremely damp. On average, I usually am able to do 1 load of laundry for about $9.00. Gym-If you want the convenience of a place to run-ok. But there are 2 set's of dumbbells, 15lb and 20 lb and 1 exercise ball that probably has never been blown up since management bought it some odd years ago. Package Delivery- Better order your valuable merchandise and send it to a friend. Packages are left in 1 of 2 places: at the door of the building where they are unsecured or in the lobby, piled up on the floor instead of in a locked door where they are designated to go. I've witnessed management walking by packages left out dozens of times. Disappointing. I could keep going. But anyone who may read this will get the point. I refuse to exhaust any more energy on trying to fight a pointless battle. I was a fool for not listening to the reviews I read before I signed a lease. Hopefully, you don't make the same mistake I did.
Property Manager at The Anchorage, Responded To This Review
We are sorry that you had a negative experience while living at The Anchorage. Management continues to work with residents to ensure the best experience while living at The Property.
I've lived here for just about a year and just renewed my lease. The Building all in all is pretty good and the management company is quick to fix problems in the apt. Some of the tenants leave a bit to be desired but that usually is the case living in a large building in any city. The Rent is fair and the neighborhood is safe all in all im happy living in this building.
