Virginia Beach is a large city of nearly half a million people, perched on the Atlantic coast between Chesapeake Bay and the North Carolina state line. Supporting a thriving local economy of its own, Virginia Beach is also a popular home base for folks who work in neighboring Norfolk and beyond, largely thanks to the incredible array of things to do in your down time.
The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts attracts major national performers and Broadway musicals, as well as popular local and regional acts. Throughout the year, you can always catch live shows at Farm Bureau Live, the city's 20,000-seat outdoor concert amphitheater. During the summer, Atlantic Boulevard comes alive at night; family-friendly street performers line the street, and bands play at a number of stages set up on the beach, in parks, and on the boardwalk.

Property Ratings at The Apartments At Spence Crossing
It is a convenient location and has a small gym. I like the high ceilings, but the cabinets are made from cheap material. We could hear traffic from inside the apartment, which was unpleasant. The carpet was worn/used when we moved in. The pool was often closed in the summer because the lifeguard was not always available. One section of the complex has no guest parking, so our guests always had to walk pretty far to find a spot. It was also hard for us to find a parking spot ourselves when coming home late. The dumpsters were often overflowing with trash. They do spray for bugs but we had an issue with spiders in the apartment in the kids' rooms. They are definitely dog friendly if that is something you like.
The property is amazing and I love the layout. Most of the neighbors smoke weed throughout the entire day on the balcony, so you aren't able to open our doors or windows at all. The Leasing Office does nothing about this besides telling people to call the police next time that they smoke. The walls are also thin, so don't expect to play music louder than speaking level, it travels to other apartments.
I have not been a resident but I was extremely pleased with the staff here at Spence. I worked with Monica. I unfortunately had to back out of my reservation due to personal circumstance. However, the service I was provided was fanatic and I was very sad to not be a future resident!
While I'm super excited to officially be a homeowner, I am sad that I am leaving The Apartments at Spence Crossing. Courtney and Taylor are awesome, and I felt like they were my advocates and really cared about my experience as a tenant. The apartments are modern, SUPER spacious, and well laid-out. I've lived in several apartment complexes in the area as well as toured too many to count...and I can say with certainty that this is one of the best in Hampton Roads. I've never had a problem with noise in my apartment, and I have a toddler above me, one below me, and a dog in the unit next to me. Yes, it's an apartment, and there will be some noise from time-to-time...but this was better than other complexes I've lived in. I've also only ever had one maintenance issue, and it was resolved so quickly and professionally. The amenities and location are fantastic, and I HIGHLY recommend this complex for anyone looking in the VB/Chesapeake area (I've done commutes to downtown Norfolk and Greenbrier area in Chesapeake and neither took more than 25-30 minutes with traffic).
The apartments are cheaply made. After two years of living here, the carpet is snagged and wearing from the edges. The refrigerator door broke. The front door is slightly off track. We also have the neighbors from hell up stairs who allow their children to run unmanaged across the floor, jump and stomp from 6 am to 10 pm (no exaggeration). We made numerous complaints to management and even called non emergency 911 but to no avail. Management has ducked and dodged us on this issue. When we move and you decide to come, lets hope you don't get the neighbors from hell living above you because management will make promises but eventually totally ignore you.
I've been here almost 2 years now so I figured it's been long enough to be able to write a decent review. These apartments are very well kept and maintenance comes FAST if you ever have a problem! I only have few issues with Spence Gate. Of course the price, it's ridiculously high for an apartment but at least I feel safe and the money is worth it if you're able to spend that much a month. Another thing is minor but becomes annoying... The sprinklers in our building come on right when the majority of us are leaving for work in the AM. Needless to say, we get soaked every morning but it could be worse I guess. Staff is very friendly in person, though they tend to be snippy and degrading to residents online and emails. Parking isn't bad at all, but we could use more towing of guests who are not parked in the right spots. Overall, I love it here! Nothing is perfect but they come close here! :)
Perfect location. Large apartments. New complex. The staff is very nice. I love living here
Cheap quality. You can definitely hear the footsteps and people from outside. We're so disappointed. Not worth it.
This family will not be renewing their lease in May. At first glance these apartments seem very nice. My wife fell in love with them. Don’t be fooled by those shiny new appliances, they are equally cheap. The range hood/vent over the stoves doesn’t vent smoke anywhere (vents to the ceiling), you can hear all the neighbors around you (even walking, flushing the toilets, full conversations from the people above you), there are no screens over the doors, lumps of wood under the carpet, the doors all over the house are very cheap and not well thought out, the lights flicker when up-stairs neighbors walk around, if you are all washing clothes at the same times the power breaker trip, there is only one light in one closet, and paint on the walls smear very easy (so they can charge you after you move), really you can smear the paint by touching it. If you find yourself looking at these apartments please take your time and look closely, these are worth no more than 1200 a month for a 2 br. Save yourself the time and money go elsewhere.
This is a great spot in VA Beach. The location is central and has easy access to both I264 and I64. I love this apartment for its spacious and open floor plans. There's just so many features I am not used to having in an apartment. The online profile that allows me to pay rent, schedule maintenance, or maintain my vehicle on file is great. Parking is of no concern and most of all its QUIET. I mean sure you here the occasional bump here and there but for the most part its a very quiet apartment. The grounds are well maintained and the facilities like the gym and pool are always clean. I really have never felt this satisfied with the apartment I have lived in until now.
I have been living in a 2 Bedroom 2 Bathroom apartment at Spence Crossing Apartments for almost a year now and it is the best experience I have ever had at in any apartment complex. All of my neighbors are super friendly, kind and courteous. The staff and management are very helpful and are always able to help me with any questions or concerns. The maintenance men are quick to execute what ever problem or work you need to have done. I have put in a service request before about a leak under my sink and with in 45 minutes I had a maintenance man at my door. They are fast!! I love this place, the price is a little high, but once you get a view of the inside you see why. These apartments are not like others I have lived in in Virginia Beach. The one I am in faces the pond and fountain, it's a bottom unit so it has a wood floor in the main area and carpet in the bedrooms, massive closets, extra large bathrooms, stainless steal appliances, and a laundry room in the unit with full sized washer and dryer. I would live here for ever if I could.
we have lived at spence crossing for almost a year. The amenities are great. We each have a closet in our master bedroom. The storage is great. We are centrally located which makes it great. It has a ball park for our dog. The landscape is well maintained. Has a 24 hour fitness center that is convenient. The staff is friendly. We are prepared to renew our lease in October.also.its the only apartment I am aware of that has Quartz countertops. Has plenty of natural light. We are looking forward to renewing our lease.
The Apartments at Spence Crossing is an amazing place to live. The Apartments are new the first attendant moved in in 2013. When I moved in only one person lived in my apartment before me and it was only for 2 months. The apartments are also very roomy and reasonably priced. They also love pets here, we have meet many people in the complex just by walking our dog and running into other puppies. The complex has doggy bags and trash cans spread around the 2 ponds to pick up after you dog when they go to the bathroom. My wife and I love this place and are planning on living here for a few years.
Tons of storage, big rooms. My only complaint is poor insulation from the floor above. I can hear their child running.
