Property Ratings at The Artisan @ Sawmill Village
I lived here for 2+ years from 2017 to 2020 and moved out mainly due to the crime and loud tenants screaming, fighting, etc. at all hours of day and night. The police are constantly called to these apartments and there were cops at the apartments responding to domestic violence/disturbances about 1 - 2 times a week. A neighbor told me another tenant had put a gun in his face. Cars get vandalized and broken into regularly. Apart from the regular crime and disturbances there were also very major ones - multiple times there were teams of cops looking for tenants or were there with warrants, my neighbor who seemed to keep up on what all went on there said there were some tenants that had been selling guns on the black market and drugs there. There were many other serious problems too but there's too many to list. Upon giving my written notice to vacate they told me that cleaning the apartment would be charged or taken out of my deposit automatically, even if the apartment was spotless upon moving out, carpet cleaning would be taken out of the deposit as well, and so would painting the apartment, even if it needed 1 coat. I ignored it because I didn't think they would charge much for it, but now they are trying to retain 100% of my deposit and charge me an additional $200+ for painting the unit even though it was just 1 coat (I didn't paint or damage any walls and I patched any holes I made). This is probably the worst apartment I've ever lived in. Save yourself all the headaches and live somewhere else.
Pros Good location, close to old town and some museums Apartment is nice Nearby brewery and little shops Close to biking trails Cons They changed the lease end date multiple times, initially it was a 6 month lease, then they had changed it to a 18 month lease without my approval or any sort of initials. You see this scribbling over the prior date and now it is a 12 month lease. And how I found out it was a 12 month lease was a notice on Friday March 29th. I didn't want to stay so I scrambled to find a new place. I found out they have a rule where if you do not let them know before the 1st of the month you have to pay an additional month. They let me know March 29th that my lease is now up and April 1st would have been the next Monday. That is very short notice. Because I did not let them know until now April 4th, I have to pay May’s entire rent. Took 2 months from when we moved in for them to get us our washer/dryer unit with me reminding them multiple times. Their office team changes every month, almost each time I go in to pay rent it’s someone completely different. Noise level is high sometimes - car alarms, trucks backing up, this one scooter alarm that goes off whenever it rains I was not able to get my problem resolved. If you still decide to move here keep paper copies of everything and have any sort of agreement in writing. I would avoid all properties managed by PMI.
This place is very nice and affordable, close to downtown & old town a lot to do in a very short amount of distance. Management is good, any issues are fixed timely. my only complaint is that crime is starting to find its way into this neighborhood, cars are stolen and broken into often.
Rude staff, rude tenants, broken appliances, paper thin walls, unkempt facilities, ROACHES, NO parking!
This has been the worst experience! I was told that I qualified for the housing assistance program. I was all packed and ready to go. I even paid the deposit fee! On the move in day I was told that I did not qualify for the program anymore. I have not received my deposit back!
The Ladies were really nice an very helpful especially with my daughter. The area Manager was so helpful. Thank you an cant wait for the next step to move in
Even when the manager is in the office, he doesn't answer the phone. I literally watched him ignoring phone calls while chatting it up with his friends.
