Northwest Raleigh features a unique combination of residential neighborhoods and convenient shopping centers all in park-like setting. City planners wanted to preserve as much of the landscape as possible while also making a way for a sprawling city in need of high-quality, affordable housing. The major routes in this part of town are lined with mature oaks and plenty of greenery. Shopping malls and retailers like Crabtree Valley Mall blend into this park-like community seamlessly, and often can’t even be seen form the road. Although this neighborhood is known for being residential, you can find many major attractions nearby like the North Carolina Museum of Art off Blue Ridge Road. Many Raleigh residents call this section of town home because if provides affordable apartments complexes, established subdivisions with large lots, and convenient access to Downtown Raleigh, located less than 10 miles away.

Property Ratings at The Ashton
The team at the Ashton from the office staff to the maintenance has truly been amazing to work with. Everyone seems to have an eagerness to help. Ariel in the office is very kind and works hard to resolve any issues.

Don't Do It!! The management and owners of this property are money hungry and beyond greedy! Very poor service. I have contacted the corporate office several times and someone only called back once. My husband and I have experienced so many issues with this property. The latest, they have added internet as an additional $70 fee, but did not provide proper instructions on how to change from our personal internet to their account. I was on top of this from the beginning and almost two months later, I have continued to receive incorrect information from the office. I received a bill for my personal internet plan even after paying internet with our November rent. So The Ashton's (Knightvest)is charging us a fee for internet, but we are not receiving the service. They are REFUSING to refund us and remove the monthly internet fee. I have called Spectrum six times and they have been consistent in saying my account is not showing under the Bulk account for the Ashtons. I even went to the office at the apartment complex and was there for over an hour as the manager spoke to Spectrum and he told her in so many words, the paperwork was not submitted properly. My unit and others was not added. This has been a nightmare. And they still REFUSE a refund. I have documentation to prove how terrible this process has been. We plan to pursue this legally if they keep charging us a monthly internet fee and our unit is not of their bulk account. Save yourself a lot of stress! DO NOT rent with this company!!

I’ve lived here for over a year. The building I’m in seems fine, except there are more bugs getting inside during the summer. Location is fine, there’s some noise from Glenwood when people illegally race at 2 AM. I’ve only needed to request maintenance a handful of times, but each time was taken care of pretty quickly. This review gets one star because the management is truly awful. Everything that can possibly be a separate non-negotiable fee is a fee, as if Mr. Krabs or Spirit Airlines was the landlord. There’s a 25/mo “technology fee.” The valet trash service is 30/mo, and the apartment has sent out emails that if a trash can is left outside for too long after/before pickup, there will be another fee tacked on. Water and sewer are also separate fees, and gas and electric are provided by different companies. You will be paying more for electric than you probably think, especially during the summer, because most of the A/C units are old and inefficient. Your choices for internet here are DSL from AT&T, which struggled to maintain the advertised speeds in my unit, or cable internet from Spectrum, which is famously a terrible company. Don’t move here if you can avoid it.
This place is COMPLETE TRASH DO NOT MOVE HERE!!! Beware!!!! Everything that looks good isn’t good for you! This apartment has no maintenance. My move in was great with rental agent Cindy . After Cindy gave me the wrong keys and paying for a locksmith . That night being locked out I discovered they had no EM (emergency maintenance). They claim they did not have anyone on the property for after hours. After getting into my apartment waiting outside for more than three hours, I was then able to after the locksmith. They tried to overturn the payment and say they were unable to refund me, as this was their fault. After speaking with someone in the rental office regarding this they said they would have to reach out to corporate in order for me to receive the money back. Nothing in my apartment has been taken care of since moving here. The 22nd of this month will be 30 days of me living here and nothing has been fixed or taking into for a concern. This apartment has roaches. Not to mention they crawl up the wall while you are cooking! The water bugs are constantly coming in through any crack and I have mentioned this to the rental office and they still are ignoring me. The pesticide man only sprays in like two places. Not to mention there is all new staff in the rental office so no one knows what is going on. I am moving from here as soon as I can
I have lived here for several years, but after Knightvest Residential took over-I'm not impressed. Being happy with where I live starts at management. There are too many issues to even list here. The biggest thing is not being able to contact someone in the office. I only hear, "We are super busy". Ummm.... I've stood outside the office door and watched management on their cell phones as I am calling the empty office. Pick up the phone. Do I want to leave a voicemail? No. Because who knows when management will call back. I've had issues with maintenance not completing tasks. Fix it correctly the first time. The biggest issue is Knightvest shutting down the pool AND gym/business center/laundry-all at once. Management told us that the previous management company failed to update the pool and our current pool did not pass inspection. Ummm.... Knightvest took over last spring and our pool was open last summer. And the previous management company had the pool resurfaced 3 years ago. I was told that the pool would be open in September. We can use the pool in the fall, but not the hot summer. We are paying for those amenities which we cannot use. The trash. Huge dumpsters all over with trash coming out of them and beside them. When I have friends over, I have to tell them I live in a dump. Take pride in where you live and work. And that starts with management. I feel management does not care about ANYTHING. I only gave two stars becuase of location.
Let me start by saying we loved this apartment at a first glance. However after we moved in things went down hill. Every month things are broken, we have put in work orders and things do not get done in a timely manner. We have had issues with roaches and even mice that WE have brought mice traps for NOT maintenance and caught at least 7 in a two week span. On top of all this we still tried to work with the leasing office however the same was not reciprocated. We have had ceiling leaking, ceiling cracking almost coming down on us to floors being soaked with no explanation. Maintenance does NOT respect your privacy and comes in whenever without leaving a notice that they have been in your apartment. To fix leak issues they come in and put a fan to dry the spots up but that is it! On top of all of this you pay $30 for valet trash and trash does NOT get picked up on a consistent basis. To make matters worse when you complain management shows no empathy nor sympathy and they live in the complex but are not dealing with what residents are dealing with. It is a great area however I would not recommend only because of the management.

Recently I relocated to The Ashton from New York. I stumbled upon the property when searching on here for a Hawthorne property in Raleigh. Little did I know that Knightvest recently purchased the property from Hawthorne. What a blessing that was ! Nadine is a answer to a prayer and was able to conduct a virtual tour for me via FaceTime while I was still in NY going through the relocation process. She was able to assist me with finding a 2BR unit within my budget with all the amenities I needed for myself and daughter. Mike was kind enough to even do a tour of the property with my cousin to gain his approval to relocate. The leasing experience was personal and professional. No place is perfect. Coming from a small New York apartment, I count my blessings having the Knightvest team in my corner. Apparently the former property management company left a lot to clean up. Outdated units and a ton of problems. Upon moving in there were updates to my unit but quite a few issues with my bathrooms. Nadine made sure that she followed up and offered solutions to what could have been a big problem. Maintenance was very helpful with the needed repairs. Making online payments and using the Mobile Doorman App for work orders is simple. This is a beautifully kept property that is centrally located near everything in Raleigh! The landscapers do a meticulous job here. I love our community and how friendly and respectful everyone is. Our Gym, Amazon Hub lockers and grilling area are a added bonus. I love the cute events they have to make us feel at home. Nadine, Mike, Anthony, Ben, Carlos and Cam are doing an amazing job ! I really appreciate how quickly work orders are fulfilled to make us feel comfortable at home. Thank You to the dedicated team here.

Thank you so much for the amazing words! We all strive to present an amazing experience for anyone who comes into the office and I am glad we have been able to do that for you! We hope you keep enjoying our amazing amenities and look forward to the many more upgrades we will be doing throughout the property!!
I have lived here since the Hawthorne days. Over the past few months the transition to the new owners was a bit rough, but some of that was the mess left by Hawthorne. The new office staff has really been great and the property is getting better every day! The maintenance staff has been working hard to play catch-up, and the grounds are looking clean and well cared for. The best part is that the new office staff treats residents like this is our home and are really understanding and helpful!

Thank you dear resident for your kind works! We hope you still excited for the new changes and additions we will be adding in just a few months. Thanks again for being a loyal and amazing resident!
Hi I have lived here for about a year now and my place has gone down hill ! You move in and everything looks perfect but really they just put band-aid jobs over stuff . When it came time to resign all kinds of problems happened I had 4 leaks from the apartment above me ( hot water heater , ac , condensation , and washer and dryer ) the apartment complex would make promises of making things right and getting repairs fixed in a timely manner . They did this once ! However other times it took bugs to start coming through the holes in the ceiling for them to finally fix things ! I also want to add that they are going up $300-$500 in rent with the new company . Don’t waste your money or stress

Good day dear resident, We are sorry to hear about the leak issues you have had in your apartment home. We always strive and do our best to take care of all issues as they come by, and even though we may fix one thing, and whole another thing can occur. Additionally, we have never raised the rents of any of our current residents to the amounts you have suggested. I would love to correct any misinformation you may have read or heard if you can please do email me at TheAsthonMGR@Knightvest.com and I would love to discuss everything with you. Thank you and have a great day!
Currently living here and not happy at all, I’ve been having trouble with my ac and heater working ever since I’ve moved here over a year ago and it’s still not fixed! It takes about a month or two to complete my work orders at times I’ve had portable ac units for weeks if not months in total in my apartment because how long they take to fix thing, they literally try every single thing to try to fix it besides the actual problem which they tell me from the start but the “want to make sure” it’s not anything else with then makes the process take a couple extra weeks. I feel like I have no privacy with maintenance being inside my apartment all the time. I’ve even had times where maintenance was suppose to be there one day and they told me they where and didn’t show up and so I called the office and told me they would call me back later that day... I WAITED OVER 2 WEEKS AND THEY NEVER GOT BACK TO ME! I’ve been paying my rent in full every month but I don’t know why if stuff is always broken down. 10/10 don’t recommend. I’ve been wanting to write this review for the last 6months-1year but was hoping they would do better but nothing has changed.
This apartment complex is the absolute WORST. My sister lives here and for an entire year she has had to deal with a constant presence of roaches. Every time I was over, there were roaches in the kitchen, bathroom and even in the dishwasher!! Recently they told her that the rent was increasing to which she told them she did not feel comfortable paying more money to deal with the same issues. They told her to her face that they could not offer any discounts because they were rented to capacity and could have someone take her spot. How rude and ridiculous!! So you don't care about your tenants because you can REPLACE them? We will both be glad when she is DONE with this travesty of a place and it's unprofessional leasing staff.
This my 2nd apartment with Hawthorne family in Raleigh, NC. Love the floor layout and the location. Jackie the leasing agent here at the Hawthorne at the Trace is very attentive and gets all jobs done with a 24 hour window. Location is everything but always consider the staff that will be assisting your housing needs. That is why I've chosen Hawthorne properties two time in a row. The entire Hawthorne corporate family makes sure all issues are addressed in a timely fashion.
I love living here! The office staff members are always helpful and nice! Linda is my favorite! My apartment is spacious and my neighbors are nice and considerate. Maintenance crew are always fast and courteous of your space. They call and let you know before entering your unit to see if you are home and if it is okay for them to enter if you are not there. During the snow days our streets and sidewalks were salted and clear to pass.
I moved to Hawthorne at the trace as my first apartment out of college, into a 1 bedroom apartment. I toured the actual apartment I would be living in and immediately loved it because it had pretty much everything I wanted and needed. The staff has been super helpful and accommodating toward my needs. The community is generally quiet and clean. I have had several maintenance issues that have been corrected in an efficient and timely manner. Overall I am highly satisfied with my choice to live here, and as long as rent doesn't increase too much out of my budget, I'm already thinking about renewing for another year.
Northwest Raleigh off of glenwood between briar creek and Crabtree. Like most everywhere else in Raleigh, it's 15 min from down town. It's a nice spot for families and the people are generally a more friendly type. The pool is sub-par, hardly going over 4ft deep and is more often used by children. I've stayed in three different apartments here on three different floors and in each one the floor of my bathtub creaked loudly. Which I find annoying and only know how annoying it is for those beneath me. Its a humble place and has been cost effective with a roommate. If they keep the rent low, I'll stay. But I don't recommend paying anything over a 1,000 for what they offer here. It's an aging complex that hasn't seen too many good new renovations.
