From its murals to its famous taquerias (where you’ll find New York’s best tacos), East Harlem is considered one of New York’s hottest neighborhoods. You might hear East Harlem referred to as Spanish Harlem or El Barrio, but no matter what you call this trendy neighborhood, it’s an ideal location that’s still affordable by Manhattan standards.
East Harlem is located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, extending from 96th Street north to the Harlem River, and from 5th Avenue east to the river. The northern section of Central Park, which includes the Museum of the City of New York, Fort Clinton, the Conservatory Garden, and the Butterfly Gardens of Central Park, sits directly across 5th Avenue from the neighborhood. Getting around Manhattan is quick and easy from East Harlem – the subway runs through East Harlem and contains several stations extending from 96th Street to 126th Street.

Property Ratings at The Aspen
This new management is a JOKE. there is no where in the lease saying a 500 dollars move out fee but they deducted it from my security deposit. I wrote to the building manager, nothing. This is very unprofessional and a scam!! The structure of the building is poor, you can hear your neighbor breathing...don't move there if you can help it. I hate everything about this new management!!!!!!
FOR YOUR SAFETY DO NOT MOVE HERE. The building and apartments are not bad, but there is a crazy tenant who is pushing and hitting people around, some of my colleagues has just moved out as the building manager and corporation are not doing nothing about it. I have a 1 y old daughter and all the time she is saying is gonna kill her and ask her dog to bite her. Police is all the time there and arrest her but she is released later during the day. I'm planning to move out if owners don't do nothing with her.
FACT, Clipper Equity is the landlord/owner and has been on NYC's bad landlord list for a very long time. Your rent WILL increase 20% at every renewal. Non-negotiable. If you can handle dirty carpets, banged up walls, constantly varying water temperature and very regular elevator issues, then this may be the place for you! Most of all, if you can handle THE FACT that the neighborhood is still quite sketchy and WILL NEVER change due to the amount of NYCHA buildings around, then move right in! Spotcrime the area, I dare you! Drive-by's, cop shot in the face, oh my! One of the sketchiest hospitals in the city is just a few blocks away, some sort of rehab/methadone clinic even closer, and one of the city's sanitation lots is even closer than that. The summer smells AMAZING here!! I've been here 8 years and out of the two dozen or so tenant friends that were here then, only three remain and I'm leaving in the fall, another in January. The management is NOT interested with your concerns nor needs because there are thousands of people behind you who don't know the real deal. Currently, there is a mentally unstable tenant terrorizing the neighborhood and the residents INSIDE this "luxury building". This has been unaddressed for almost a year now and they can't keep front desk staff long enough to even learn a name. They take most of the abuse. Are there worse places to live? Of course. But at this price it's insanity. Nope. Bye.
These are unsafe apartments with irresponsible management and highly expensive. My friend living in Aspen was attacked by a women in elevator with attempt to murder with a spray and a plastic bag. The attacker was set free and management did nothing. Totally unsafe place. I willl not be extending lease.
Management is dishonest. When I moved out, I left my key in the apartment. They could not find it and asked if I had a spare. I did, in fact, have a spare key and said I would bring it to them. Their response to me was that they went ahead and deducted $250 for a new lock from my security deposit.
Two years ago, my girlfriend moved into a new apartment building that was dingy, run-down and horribly managed. In contrast, the building across the street, called The Aspen, looked beautiful, clean, luxurious...and expensive. For two years, we joked about how one day we would become rich and be able to move across the street and live in The Aspen, which we considered the very symbol of upward mobility. Recently, we decided to move in together and out of curiosity, we searched Apartments.com to see how far out of our price range The Aspen was. It turns out, when we combine our incomes we can very much afford a one-bedroom apartment there. We just signed our lease last week! We have a 24-hour doorman, a gym and laundry room in the building, a great view of the gorgeous courtyard and a free shuttle that takes us to the nearest express Subway stop. We've achieved the American Dream!
