Property Ratings at The Avenues of South Hoover
Absolutely, hands down the WORST place I have ever lived. I’ve been thru several property managers and haven’t even lived here a year yet. My year lease cannot come fast enough. Soooo many issues with this place but here’s the highlights -severe water leak that took several months to fix, meanwhile causing water damage to my own property, caused black mold to grow on the walls in several rooms -several weeks in the summer spent without AC, wasn’t fully fixed until September!! - several power outlets do not work - my mailbox is OPEN. fully open and won’t lock shut, so my mail and packages are just there for the taking. - my “upgraded” unit that I PAY for does not have all the upgrades it should have. - they pride themselves on closing maintenance requests within 24 hours. All that means is they close it WITHOUT actually fixing it. Just save yourself the headache and move somewhere else. The “luxury” grills they advertise… ARE CHARCOAL. It’s a gas grill you have you put charcoal in.. and be prepared to clean it out before you want to use it too.
Didn’t have ac for most of the time I was there, they didn’t do anything about it, and when asked said I was being aggressive and wouldn’t respond to emails, got a lawyer sent a payment to get out now they have me in collection don’t rent here
The level of filth is ridiculous, from old food- bones and leftovers from the trash valet to poop from the wildlife that literally stays on my floor outside my apartment door.
The management and team are the best in the business! Especially the lady that I talk to name Tanisha she was very helpful and professional at her job.

When I first moved in it was fine, nice and quiet had no complaints!!! And then all of sudden I am finding bees INSIDE the apartment (which I’m highly allergic to) called to have the bees removed no one came! My closet fell they came out it up and it fell again in less than 24 hours! It then sat on the floor for a week and a half before they came and put it up properly! Now I’m dealing with rats! This is the 3rd time in 30 days I’ve had to call for a rat being inside the apartment! My neighbor upstairs has dogs that bark and whine all day and night. After the first 30days it was downhill for me!!! I can’t wait for my lease to be up so I can move out of here!
Leasing office manager (Charity) has a terrible attitude and is so RUDE. My stove has been broke for 2 months now. My bathroom has flooded TWICE and my sink is still leaking. Maintenance sucks. Every-time they fix something , it breaks within a couple days. Rent is to expensive for the living conditions here. Apartment is nice looking on the outside but looks like it’s worth 600$ a month on the inside. I hate it here.

The front desk/ help is awesome and the property is clean and safe. Close to shopping and dinning love the lay out of the apartments.
My husband and I have lived here for almost six years (we're moving out of town) and can't say enough good things about this complex. There is minimal noise from neighbors, courteous front office staff, and it's close to everything in Hoover! I can't think of a more perfect location for an apartment. If we could stay here longer, we would. It's been a wonderful experience!
Leasing manager is terrible! My stove has been out for 3 weeks now and maintenance haven’t came to fix it! My master bedroom tub has Been stopped up for 2 MONTHS and again … NO ONE HAS COME TO FIX IT after putting in SEVERAL requests. I hate living here. The workers in the leasing office is SLOW and acts careless. I will be reporting this property and also calling Fox 6 !

We currently lease a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom. We were transferred in March by the complex staff due to the annoying renovations going on out here in the complex. They ended up charging us a transfer fee that we were told we would not be charged because it was their decision to move everyone around not our request. Well I guess that management team were all fired or let go because the new staff is unwilling to correct the mistakes made by the former manager. Then rent goes up when it wants to and they are charging $80 for water bills because its based off community usage which I think is crazy! Also, you can never reach anyone in the office and when you can that person acts like she doesn't know anything and always needs to ask her manager who is always in a meeting. Like it is so annoying being a resident out here and we cannot wait for our lease to be up in March. They are unwilling to help and don't understand or know anything let them tell it. Then how you charge a trash valet fee when that hasn't even started and was not even a request of the residents!?

Current resident here... we were given 2 days notice to move out of our old unit completely due to “emergency repairs” (fixing a stairwell that had been boarded up since we moved in 2 years ago). We had to take off work to pack on such short notice and comply with their last minute request. Our old unit always had lots of cockroaches in the kitchen and bathrooms no matter how often pest control sprayed. And several outlets did not work or often shorted out. Also, we were told our unit had a ceiling fan in the 2nd bedroom, but it did not when we moved in, and we were told we could not install one. Overall, the layout and features of the apartment are beautiful, but it is an older complex so pipes and ac units often break. Due to management’s poor communication/lack of flexibility and the bug/maintenance issues, I DO NOT recommend living here. They will probably reply to this saying they want to work to reach a solution, but it is just a show.

I want to reiterate that we were unaware of the order of which each building repair would be. Although we did cover all moving expenses and also provided utility transfer credits we understand that the move was inconvenient for our residents and for that we apologize. Our goal is to provide a habitable space for residents. You also mentioned pest control issues... if you are having pest issues please contact the office and we will add you to the service list. We provide this information to our residents on our monthly newsletter; please let us know if you aren’t receiving it at your door and/or email. I moved into Barrington about 8 months ago. I have had to put in a maintenance request every other week. My air conditioner has been broken ever since I’ve moved in. They come in, “fix” it, it works for a couple of days and then it stops working for several days until they can come fix it again. This causes my air to stay on all day, since it’s not cooling the apartment which drives up my bill so much. The power outlets in my apartment have been the same story, they haven’t all worked since I’ve moved in, I’ve put in several requests to have it fixed and they still don’t work. The worst of all is pest control. I live on the first floor, and I have cockroaches in my apartment daily. When I contact the office, they say they will address it with pest control and the situation just simply doesn’t get better. When I ask the manager what can be done, she tries to console me by ensure me they are “just garden roaches”. Absolutely horrible. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy.

I’m a current resident, I have been with Air for 4 days when calling Rent Office I was told they was short of staff plus I have 9 other AC units ahead of me. That was 4 days ago. Yesterday we had 90 degree weather. So I had to purchase some fans from Walmart so me and my son can keep cool. That was unnecessary money spent. So disappointed
I am very happy with the community and my unit. Spacious, quiet and I love the updated features.

If you wanted to be treated like a VIP at a 5 star community, this is the place for you. I have lived in quite a few different apartments and those don't even come close to Barrington. If you're looking for a new home, look no further. Maintenance, Grounds, the Neighborhood are all wonderful. The office staff are like family, and do everything they can to make sure each resident is taken care of. 10/10.

On and off for the past year our apartment has been infested with roaches. They send a pest control guy out virtually every week, but the situation is getting worse. I CANNOT wait until this lease is up so we can get out of this roach nest. We've LITERALLY been unable to use our kitchen for over a month, so we're forced to dine out for all of our meals. Trust me, that adds up! Our 2 year old daughter is forbidden from going into the kitchen. They've now spread throughout the dining area and living room. We have to put our food into air tight containers so not too have them crawled on. This place is absolutely horrible!! I wouldn't dare inviting anyone over.

my son and i are very happy to be in hoover Al .the building is well maintained and the staff are very helpful .and we have a very large pools .i am 69 years old thank you.
An average apt complex but the walls and floors are very thin and not all tenants respect others. Maintenance is good. Management keeps changing
If you want a "Living Large" apartment this is the one. My husband and I downsized and picked this first choice after searching options in the area, I.E. Cost vs Size. We went from a semi-rural area to a metro area with all the amenities around, so this was new for us. We now don't have to drive an hour to get somewhere, which saves us money. We have a wood burning fireplace, new fixtures, rugs and "larger than life" windows in each room that allows us to see the beautiful blue skies outside. All the rooms are comfortable and can each fit a king size bed, and I can switch the bedrooms and call them each masters. There are 2 pools, an exercise room, laundry room in the apartment and on the premises, playground, tennis courts, car wash and a fenced walking court. I see people take their animals inside it,close the gate and throw balls to let them chase after, so they are safe from traffic, now that's a great idea! Overall, I'm comfortable, safe, and now living large with my pocket book living small.

I have been living in apartments for the last 5 years with my two kids and I have to say that this is the best apartment by far. The maintenance department are fast, the management are very helpful, and the neighbors are awesome. I will recommended this apartment to any one, even my enemies so they could appreciate a great home as well LOL. This apartment is in the center of Hoover, i.e. shopping, restaurants, and excellent schools. This is very convenient and safe location. For the price, YOU CAN'T BEAT IT!!!!!
