Property Ratings at The Baltimorean Apartments
This is a great place to stay. The staff is very responsive. It is quiet and very comfortable. The neighborhood is safe, close to all that you need and close to Johns Hopkins University, which gives you immediate access to an athletic field, athletic events, and other interesting events. I have stayed here four times for 5- month periods, from January through April. The one-bedroom room is all I need, and it comes equipped with all the kitchenware you need. The building is secure and safe, and it has all the heat you need in winter. The units are functionally furnished with everything you need with good Wi-Fi. It is on bus lines that will efficiently take you downtown or out to the suburbs. If you have a car, there are plenty of free parking places within a block or two of the building. Both Bobbi, the manager, and Rashad, the maintenance man are excellent; they are very responsive to all reasonable requests. The other tenants are quiet and polite. I have rented several apartments in Baltimore and for the many reasons I have identified in this posting, this has been the best for an extremely reasonable price. I do not think there is anything better in this price range in Baltimore.

Management can be very unhelpful and rude at times. Will rudely refuse to help even when it is very possible for them to help. Won't even answer the phone during business hours in these scenarios. The elevator has almost injured people at times and needs to be updated. Breaks down quite often.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. For non-emergency maintenance requests, we require the tenant to submit these in writing and these items are usually resolved within 1-2 business days. For emergency maintenance (floods, gas leak, etc.), we take care of these items right away and have an after hour's answering service to respond when we are closed. This is a small business and there is only one person working in the office, so it is not always possible to answer the telephone, even during business hours. In that case, we do have voicemail to return phone calls later and we do have email. The elevators are old but well maintained. Because of the age of the elevators, the doors do not have a sensor to automatically stay open when someone or something is in the door opening. Unfortunately, it is not possible to add a sensor for the type of system we have. We recommend that those who are using the elevators use the stop button to hold the door open if they need extra time.
I have lived here for 6 years and have no complaints. It is the cheapest well-run apartment that I was able to find in the area. I'm in a studio, which is indeed very small (think dorm room plus bathroom and kitchenette) and not suitable for having guests, but if you aren't planning to have company it is fine. I'm on the back of the building, which is quiet except when the garbage truck comes through. Bobbi, the manager, responds very quickly to maintenance requests and concerns and is always friendly. I only had trouble with pests (ants) one year, and the pest control folks took care of that quickly. I have always felt safe here. The building is also convenient for the Homewood campus, the bus lines down to Penn Station and up to Towson, the Safeway grocery store, and the Waverly public library. If I had to pick one thing to change, I would wish for a newer stove.

The location is perfect if you are a student or young adult. I like how quiet it is in the area. I like the availability of fully furnished apartments. I recommend this place to those who are trying to save money or just need a temporary place to stay. The building manager offers month-to-month and 12-month leases. There is always availability and the rental prices are fair.

This has been the worst place I've ever lived in. I'll start with the only 3 advantages then jump to the conclusion. 1- It is very close to JHU, 5 minutes walk. 2- it is CHEAP. 3- it is furnished. Now I'll start with the disadvantages: 1- The internet is so slow, which I'm pretty sure no body uses anyway so don't get tricked with the free internet promo. 2- The apartments and the whole building is dirty and old, you can even smell the door's knob. Additionally, you will find bugs going around from time to time. When you see the apartment before signing the lease, they will tell you that they will clean it before you check in, but you'll figure out that they didn't when you check in. 3- the walls are very thin, you can hear pretty much everything in and outside the apartments, including the very noisy elevator going up and down every single time. 4- The elevator was not working for days (more than 1 time) , and since it is an old one, it will close on you and kill you if you didn't go out/in fast enough. (Not sure how is it getting certified) 5- The heat didn't work for a couple of days as well during my stay 6- the water was out for a couple of hours 7- there is no trash shout in the building, which means that you need to go down to the trash bin every time 8- The electricity bill is a joke, I've been charged for $40 once when I wasn't even in town. 9- there is no garbage disposal in the kitchen's sink 10- The cart they provide is old and really useless

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of our building. 1. The free wifi service is for browsing the internet and checking email, very similar to hotel wifi, and is not meant for Skype, streaming movies or other uses that require a faster connection. This is explained to all tenants when they move in and other service options are provided at that time as well. 2. The building was built in 1928, but it is well maintained and clean, with no bug infestations. Every tenant is shown their apartment on the same day they sign the lease and move in. If there are any problems during that inspection, we address it right away. 3. We rarely get sound complaints from tenants due to the thick plaster walls the building was constructed with. 4. The elevators were built in the 1950's and do not have modern features, such as an automatic door opener. Our elevators are working properly and are inspected annually as required by law. They are rarely out of order, but we recently had to replace the brakes in one of the elevators and there was a roof leak affecting the other elevator. Both of these issues have been resolved. 5. I have been the manager of this building since 1996 and the longest the heat has ever been out of service, since that time, was 22 hours for a major emergency repair in the late 1990's. However, in the rare event that there is a problem with the heat, it is not usually out for more than a few hours. We are also in the process of replacing our heating system, which will be in place for the upcoming winter. 6. The water is rarely off and only when there is a repair needed or the City is working in the neighborhood. 7. The trash chutes were closed years ago to eliminate bug and odor problems. We have a trash room on the ground floor. 8. The electric bill is based on the tenant's usage and averages $15-$25, unless an AC is used. 9. The apartments do not include garbage disposals. 10. The cart is provided as a free convenience to tenants and it is working fine.
I stayed in the Baltimorean apartment for about 5 years (June 2012- May 2017). The Apartment rent is very reasonable; rooms are semi-furnished; and gas, water, heating and trash service were included in the rent – no extra charges. Tenants can take the benefit of borrowing stuffs/books from the lending closet/bookshelves. A fully functional, although not so fancy, gym, a good laundry facility and a well decorated courtyard are other plus points. The location of the Baltimorean Apartment is excellent specially if you are studying or working in Johns Hopkins University. Homewood campus is just a few blocks away and the Homewood-JHMI shuttle stops are almost at the door-steps. The Wyman Park Dell, R-House restaurants, Eddie's market, 7-eleven, Safeway and other amenities and convenient stores are very close too. The apartment is old but well maintained. Management staffs and maintenance persons are very professional and prompt. Whenever I had any maintenance issue, it was taken care pretty quickly. Corridors were clean, exterminator visits were regular and I never saw any rodent in my room. The only minor problem I faced sometime was the elevator going out of order occasionally, although it has improved a lot in recent times. Overall, I had a pleasant and comfortable stay of five years in this apartment and I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone who wants a nice, peaceful place to live in Baltimore.

It is a very convenient place to stay if you are working on the Johns Hopkins University. Homewood campus is 2 min walking, and the medical campus is 15 min away by bus (the stop is one/two blocks away. I live here since November 2015, in a furnished apartment. The apartment was very nice and clean and whenever I needed help or something the manager dealt with it very fast. The neighborhood is very safe and it has some good restaurants and bars near and grocery store. Wyman Park close-by. Just a note: the gym is too old, probably it's necessary a renewal
