A part of one of the South’s best college towns, according to Southern Living, South Auburn borders downtown and the Auburn University campus. Cheer on the Auburn Tigers at the Jordan-Hare Stadium minutes from the neighborhood. After a winning game, head over to the town’s favorite post game gathering spot, Toomer’s Corner. Celebrate by participating in one of the town’s oldest traditions by hurling toilet paper over lamp posts, benches, and trees. When you’re done decorating, try the famous lemonade at Toomer’s Drugs, an old-fashioned soda shop located in an historic drugstore.
Even if you’re not a sports fan, there is plenty to do in this gorgeous tree-covered community. Not only can you enjoy your favorite outdoor activities at the parks in South Auburn, but you can also bring your friends and family to the festivals held in these natural areas. Listen to live music, purchase crafts, and eat delicious food at the annual Auburn CityFest held in Kiesel Park.

Property Ratings at The Beacon
Moving in, there was mold everywhere. The neighborhood is incredibly sketchy (there are always police cars patrolling). My apartment constantly smelled like weed because every single one of my neighbors smoked pot in broad daylight. Our A/C went out TWICE a year, and took them MONTHS to fix it every time. Everything in our apartment broke at some point in time, and maintenance was incredibly intrusive (they walked right in without knocking). We had a roach problem. The walls are thing, and our neighbors were incredibly loud with parties, fights, arguments, etc. Every time I went outside, the guy across the street cat-called me and made me incredibly uncomfortable. One man peed off his balcony in the morning. The rent prices rise every single year for no reason. The gym is not open 24/7. It actually closes quite early. Do yourself a favor and do not move here.
I have lived at The Beacon for two years and I can say that I really enjoyed my first year of living here. The staff was always nice to me and the maintenance team always fixed any problem that I had in a timely manner. However, something changed during my second year here. The gym was often dirty and provided no disinfectant spray or paper towels. I notified the office and they cleaned the gym and provided supplies, but within a couple of weeks the gym was dirty again and out of supplies. As a result, I started going to another gym. On another occasion, I was having recurring noise problems from a neighbor. I contacted the office four times about this issue and they did not do anything about it until I was able to email them a video of how loud the noise was. Lastly, in the middle of my lease, the business started using a new payment system that charges the residents almost $20 as a “service fee” to simply pay their bill. The worst part about this was that The Beacon did not tell the residents about this new policy. It was up to the residents to figure it out. This second year at the Beacon has left me feeling like the business takes advantage of college students. They brush off the residents and do not take their comfort seriously.
What they don't tell you is when your roommate moves out for the summer and pays their rent, they have the right to move a stranger into your apartment. They treat each unit like a dorm! You thought you were living with friends and everyone is paying their rent (even through the summer) as detailed specifically in the lease! Then, when one person turns their key in because they will not be back in the state until after the move out date, The Beacon WILL move a stranger into your apartment! DANGEROUS!!! Not to mention, when something is broken, it takes them forever to fix it!!! Not a good experience!
Property Manager at The Beacon, Responded To This Review
Thank you for your review of your Beacon experience. As most student housing complexes in the nation will advise you, units are sold by the room. The situation you've described did not occur in this manner, and the person who moves out and returns their keys has officially subleased their unit to another resident. If you have questions regarding a maintenance fix, please come see our staff immediately. Thank you.
