Property Ratings at The Bennington
The Bennington looks great on paper, but after moving in I realized I made a mistake. The leasing agents are friendly until you move in, then they ghost you. Maintenance takes forever and half do the job. There is like one person on staff that is friendly and everyone else seems miserable to be here. The units also don’t look like they have been updated in 20 years. There are cracks everywhere in the walls, stains on the carpet (that were never cleaned before I moved in), old appliances, and the carpet is just gross looking. Oh and don’t forget about the trains. No one mentioned to me that I would have to listen to loud trains 24/7. It’s quieter with windows and doors shut, but who wants to be shut in 24/7 (just something to keep in mind - try to get a unit away from the tracks if possible). We will definitely be looking else where at the end of the lease.
Absolutely the worst residential apartments in Silver Spring. Maintenance requests are never handled quickly. It took me six months to get a washing machine fixed after more than a dozen complaints and dirty water pooling in the bottom of the machine 6 or 7 times. . Front desk staff is unfriendly to the point of being rude. If the weekday morning concierge staff person smiled or greeted me more than three times over the course of the year, I'd be shocked. Property Managers are less than helpful, bordering on incompetent. They don't respond in a timely manner and they don't know their own policies. I emailed on multiple occasions and never got the courtesy of a timely response. Do yourself a favor and run from this building as fast as you can!
The Bennington was my first apartment in Downtown Silver Spring and I enjoyed the 3 years that I stayed there... Pros: 1) The staff is very personable and greet you when you are walking around. I saw many of the staff since I worked from home so this included maintenance, cleaning staff, front desk and the leasing office. I enjoyed the community feel and am very appreciative of the level of service received from Avie, Marcia, Ms. Deborah, and the cleaning staff that I interacted with frequently. 2) The apartments are a great steal especially if you need space. I had an apartment that was 800+ square feet and relative to other buildings in the area, my rent was at least $200-300 less. 3) The proximity and ease to the Silver Spring Metro Station. You can walk underground through a connecting garage (NOAA) and get out near the MARC train. The walk is approximately 5 minutes. Since you are also near the Metro, you can have friends park in the Public Parking next door which is free after 7 PM and on the weekends. Areas of Improvement: 1) Some of the common areas and amenities could use a refresh. The gym has the essentials but has a broken treadmill that's been out of service for months. The parking garage also has an "abandoned" car which has been there for a while. 2) The temperature in the building can vary, sometimes the hallways can feel humid and the gym can be warmer than expected. For the last couple of weeks, the temperature in the gym was cooler which was a plus. 3) My former apartment had a great view of Georgia Ave but meant that it was right next to the train tracks. The windows do a decent job of handling the noise from the trains. However, I avoided opening my window if I was watching TV since the sound, in particular the freight trains, was rather loud. Overall, I had a great experience at The Bennington and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to get value for their apartment in terms of size and doesn't mind not having all of the latest amenities but the essentials.
Dirty entrance, walls, stained carpets, hot and smelly halls, dishonest advertising, and just a terrible experience all around. I am relocating from the west coast and have visited many locations while I was in town. From the moment I walked into the door, until I exited, I was amazed by how rude and bothered the staff acted. I entered the vestibule and was greeted by a call box and two sets of doors both of them were locked and you needed special fob to access and enter these of the entrances to the office in the main building. First when I entered I saw that the office was to the right and tried to open the door only to find that it was locked I could see that there is an office door open with the lights on and what is knocking with no response. I then tried to enter through the main entrance to see about touring the property I can. I knocked on the door a few times and Concierge acted like she could not hear me. Finally someone came walking out the door as I entered behind them. I entered and sat in the seating located by the front door and waited to be acknowledged or at least greeted by someone on the staff after about 10 minutes of sitting there I went to the desk and approach the lady wood been ignoring me the entire time. I asked to see the property and the desk lady acted as if I was bothering her picked up the phone and dial the office. When she explained that there was someone there to see the property she hung up the phone and rudely said “you’re gonna have to wait, because there’s only one person in the office and she’s busy right now and doesn’t have time to give you a tour, just wait and somebody can help you”. a few seconds later a female who I thought was a resident walked by the desk towards the office and the rude lady at the desk muttered something and pointed at me and told the girl walking that I wanted to see the property. The girl probably the only positive experience at the building happen to work in the office and greeted me and introduced herself as Christine
The Bennington has been a great place to live. Not only is it conveniently located off of the red line and near major stores, the building itself is extremely well-kept - you feel like you're living in a hotel! Aside from the building itself, the best part of living at the Bennington is - by far - the staff. From the wonderful and extremely helpful leasing office staff (especially Avie Rockmaker!), to the concierge staff, to maintenance crew, and everyone else in between, the staff makes the Bennington a truly wonderful place to live. Would highly recommend!
I never thought I would give a rental apartment a 5 star rating, but the Bennington has earned mine for its amazing location, fair rent prices for the value (at least when I signed in 2017), but most importantly, the AMAZING leasing and concierge staff. They are so responsive to any question or request I have, well-informed and easy to reach, and kind in accommodating special requests for my medical condition and when I had unexpected travel. They care to create community, establish professional but friendly relationships with the tenants, and are not overbearing or intrusive. I stopped by around 5 times to see my apartment unit before formally signing a lease, measure things, etc, and I was treated like an old friend. If you're looking for a downtown SS rental, you have tons of options and nearly every building complex here has vacant units if you're not too picky about what floor you're on or the exact layout/amenities. I have a large dog and I wasn't even too limited. But if you are tired of other predatory apartment management companies ignoring your requests, losing your paperwork, losing your packages, lying about the amenities, and treating you like garbage despite being an A tenant... move to the Bennington - you owe it to yourself.
I lived here for 6 months and it was a great residential experience. The staff was friendly and helpful and the building was well maintained. The lounge on the first floor is a great perk.
I really enjoyed living at The Bennington! Avie in the leasing center was the first person I met and she helped me with everything I needed throughout my time there, including the move-out process. I can't say good enough things about how sweet and helpful she was. The apartment itself was clean and in great condition. It was in close proximity to everything I needed like grocery stores, restaurants, a pharmacy, and the metro. I'd recommend this apartment to anyone looking in the area.
I am on my third lease at The Bennington and have thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The building is immaculate, almost like staying in a luxurious hotel. The staff is for the most part very friendly and receptive. Location nearby the Silver Spring metro, shopping, and dining is superb. The neighborhood is safe and friendly - sort of a small town feel in an urban area. The only downfalls are the close proximity to the train tracks (noisy if your windows are open) and lack of a pool/green space.
Best location anyone could ask for. Right next to the Silver Spring Metro Station, Metro bus stops directly in front of the building, including Silver Spring's free Circulator bus. Throwing distance of great Italian, Chinese, American, Spanish, and Seafood restaurants plus a very popular Sushi Restaurant right in our lobby! Walk to the grocery, nail salon, drugstore, bank, doctor, and much more. Best part of living here is NO NOISE, NO CRIME, NO WORRIES. The building must be poured concrete which would account for no neighbor noise EVER! Excellent security, building maintenance, and accessible/visible management. They know most all our names and we know theirs. I feel safe day and night living right in the heart of a busy cosmopolitan city. Feels like living in a boutique hotel, not a big apartment complex. City living at its finest - for real.
