Property Ratings at The Birches
The Birches were the best option for us when we needed to downsize, and we're very thankful for our time there. The location is ideal with access to 42, so many businesses, and a safe and walkable neighborhood. Ample closet space, plus the size of the balcony/patio is luxury compared to anywhere else. I personally loved the wide window sills for my houseplants. As for cons, the road is very busy and especially noisy if you're close to the traffic light. The buildings are also older so you get what sounds and smells may come through the thinner walls. Neighbors were always friendly, but their guests weren't always considerate of parking spots. Biggest downside is the laundry only being in certain buildings, meaning you have to go outside and cross the lawn depending where you are. Plus the machines are coin operated and finicky, and there are no change machines on the premises.
I moved here in November, 2016 and have nothing but great things to say about the office personnel and especially the maintenance department. I had a couple issues but each and EVERY time I call for maintenance they come the same day or the next day at the latest. They do the job right and do not try to just patch up a problem. I am so happy that I picked the Birches Apartments as my new home.
My two bedroom Birches apartment are adequate for my three person family. The main bedroom is a nice size for king bed and couple pieces furniture, but the second bedroom is a little tight with a full size bed. It has a large living room that opens up to the hallway to the bedrooms and bathroom on one side and the dining room and kitchen on the other. The dining room is good for a square table because of the wall and doorway that leads into the kitchen. With the remodeling(optional) of the kitchen, it diverts your attention from how small the kitchen is. The one bathroom will satisfy your basic needs but could use a full remodeling not just a partial. The staff is friendly and the neighborhood is quite.
I currently live here because I love the area and the great schools in Washington Township. However, the electric bill is crazy high!! I have never paid soooo much for an electric bill in my life until I moved here. I have called atlantic city electric and the office here and i was told it is just the way things are. i refuse to accept this and I'm looking for another apartment. oh and there are huge water bugs everywhere. Don't move here you will cry when you get your electric bill!
I currently live here for the past 3 years and have had nothing but trouble when it comes to getting things fixed. for a year and a half my back porch was dry rotted and it wasn't until the township inspector told them to fix it that it got done. I currently have 2 other issues going on with my a/c and sliding glass door, which doesn't stay closed. all they keep telling me is to keep the door locked and they will see about the a/c. lack of communication between the maintenance staff and the office and the occupants is horrendous and has really soured my opinion of this place.
I moved in with a 1st month free special. The apartment was ok when I first moved in, the neighbors were friendly. There are a lot of children in my area, which is great for my children. There were some things that weren't working properly and the maint workers came to fix them after 2 weeks. Everything was going alright until I got my electric bill. It was almost half my rent!! When I called the electric company, they gave me excuses as to the apartment being old. Then I talked to the apartment office, and they can't really give me an answer or a solution. I don't know if I can afford to stay here if my electric is going to keep being this high.
