Travis Heights is characterful neighborhood in south central Austin. It sits on the southern shore of Lady Bird Lake, with the St. Edwards neighborhood located directly to the south. Travis Heights developed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as Austin's first planned urban community south of the Colorado River.
It may be just outside the city center, but the neighborhood has a plethora of buzzy restaurants and trendy bars to experience. You’ll find the best collection along South Congress Avenue, but there are plenty of popular spots within walking or biking distance.
Travis Heights is full of unique homes and apartment offerings. There are contemporary apartments, grandiose mansions, and humble bungalows all calling the area home. I love these apartments so much. They're so spacious and feel so homey. The staff is always so friendly and kind to me as well. I love being able to call this property my home!
this property is fairly cheap for the location but let me tell you its high way robbery for what you get here. every single apartment has something wrong with it. leaks bugs mold rats broken doors and appliances they refuse to fix. the washroom is constantly broken. there's literally 30 mattresses and counting pilled up behind the dumpster. patios are rotting, stairs are rotting. they boast about big patios which you may not use besides a chair. try putting a plant or bike on your private patio and oh boy they'll fine you. they have a hot tub that's always broken there's been graffiti everywhere and cops either here or next door every night for months the place is full of crime. just moved and couldn't be happier.
Flooded TWICE while I was still living in the apartment. Lived here for almost 12 years. Moved because one night, my apartment flooded from rain water leaking on the third floor (I lived on the FIRST floor). That was the first time it late. Management was absolutely no help in cleaning up or trying to contain the water. They came by and said there was nothing they could do. Four days later, I had more flooding in my apartment. I had to call several times to ask for help to clean the water up this time. Decided I was not gonna clean up all by myself this time. All this time, management was telling me there were no available units in the complex and they could move me for three weeks. My apartment was not habitable. I ended up calling a complaint with the city, although I don't know that that did any good. There were two more floods before I was officially out. And according to neighbors, they was more flooding after that. The assistant manager, Alex, is extremely rude and unprofessional. I cannot believe this company has someone with such poor communication skills working for them. DO NOT LIVE HERE!
I lived at the complex for several years without many complaints, but the last 6-9 months has been awful! Started with construction at the neighboring lot, the construction company was allowed to rent a unit for office use, having constructions workers going back and forth all day, tracking mud and slamming doors. They were allowed to use the parking lot as well, which left no parking for many residents. The laundry room has been a joke for years. I was told 4 years ago they were getting new machines and they never did. Last time I mentioned it it was blamed on a previous office employee. They decided to work on the roof and a/c units in January, so we were without a/c for 51 days! I know they picked January, but this is Texas and it should NOT take 51 days to get it done! Code enforcement was called numerous times and it sounds like they did not have correct permits for the work. Besides no a/c, many tenants had big leaks from rain coming through the building, numerous times. We heard from one tenant that an apartment on the 3rd floor had been empty for 2 and a half years because of leaks!!! On top of all that, the girl in the office is the most rude, condescending person I have ever come across. We had heard that tenants were leaving because of her and then we experienced her unbelievable rudeness personally. She yells at tenants, construction workers, lies, threatens and bullies. I decided it's almost as if they were trying to get everyone to leave!!!
This complex is not worth the unhappy front office ladies. Why they hate life is unbeknownst to me, but they want to make your life a hell at this property. There's constant construction, the laundry room has broken or dirty machines that make it unusable, and the parking situation is up in the air each day due to them allowing construction workers from the neighboring sites park in the complex. You definitely get what you pay for with this complex.
The absolute only reason I left from this perfect location was for a garage. Otherwise, I found very few things I didn’t like about my apartment, and enjoyed my 8 year long stent with this complex and the nice ladies in the office. I enjoyed the community aspect of seeing multiple friendly faces throughout the day, and let’s not forget there’s a pool and a jacuzzi for those that hate this hot weather and enjoy some water!
I have lived here a few years now, and I don't plan on moving away. The maintenance team is very good. Shirley and Andrea in the office do a great job of handling everything with tenants, and being fair and reasonable with lease renewals/transfers. It is a great neighborhood to live in, and I like the trees and pool a lot. Overall, it would be very tough to beat the price/location/management team in South Austin.
Been living at the Brook on and off for 5 years now. 3rd time moving back to Austin and keep finding myself moving back here. Super friendly staff, quick maintenance repairs and a great outdoorsy style setup!
The apartments are affordable, moderately nice, and the staff is really nice and helpful but management is extremely reluctant to address the car break-ins, burglaries and loitering. Many residents are leaving and breaking their leases to do so.
The Brook Apartment complex is an incredibly reasonable choice for prospective tenants in Austin. There are simply not enough economical choices a person can make in Austin's current housing climate. The apartment is spacious, adequately equipped, and managed properly. It is well situated and the grounds are well kept. In addition; the area is quiet, cable TV is free, and the amenities surpass those of neighboring competitors by far. Overall, the complex is great, and the pool is a 'must see.' Unfortunately, accessibility is restricted, as two out of three entrances are permanently closed, and additional utility bills are relatively high. Still, The Brook, is a fantastic choice.
Although the complex borders I-35, the location remains green and somewhat secluded. Lots of wildlife and trees hide it from the hustle and bustle of the interstate. The apartments are nicely insulated from any street noise. No paper thin walls here! Management is friendly and responsive. While the apartments are older with dated appliances, water pipes and interiors, they are well-maintained. Rent is rapidly increasing along with every other complex in Austin, however, it is not absurdly overpriced...yet.
I've lived in this complex for over 2 years now and it's been awesome. The ladies in the office are super friendly and always helpful. The maintenance staff is courteous and friendly as well. The property itself is conveniently located near 35 for easy access to highways and downtown. The grounds are very nice and well kept and the pool is always clean and refreshing. The complex is pet friendly and you're likely to meet a dog or two if you're out walking around. The prices are very reasonable for the area.
