Nobody will answer the phone , they are extremely slow at responding to issues and don’t even waste your time dealing with the mail system , they will lose your packages because your apartment number doesn’t match your mailbox

We pay for reserved parking and constantly have someone parked in our spot. We ask them to put up a sign to match all the other spots and they “have to contact their designer”. We offered to buy to the exact sign from Home Depot for $27.00 and “they can’t do that”. They say they are handling but in the meantime we have had 4 cars towed just this week because they say “just call towing”. Every response from them is some confused we are working on a solution copy and pasted response. Complete lack of accountability. Not to mention they lost our lease to begin with so the towing company wouldn’t even come. I know we now live in a world where “it isn’t my fault” but what happened to doing your job with pride and making things right?

I’ve lived here since December and from the get go i had issues with the heater and now. Since summer I’ve had nothing but constant issues with the A/C i arrive home to a apartment at 80 degrees EVERYDAY after work . I have it set at 68 they don’t care they just send maintenance to reset the thermostat and that’s it . This issues has not been resolve and i can’t afford to break the lease i should be able to arrive home in comfort not dread going home because it’s hot as it is outside
Maintenance takes forever. There is no security!!!!! Many neighbors have had their tires stolen and there have been break ins. The leasing agents are cool but management in general is AWFUL stay away if possible. Also there is nothing around the apartments. This used to be a commercial area so everyone started building houses in this area because it was cheap now its extremely expensive to rent an apartment. Its not worth the money at all.
This apartment complex is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I went from being approved for my apartment to being denied because of a lack of communication ON THEIR END. I have proof that I emailed, called, and texted several times on how to send the pending documents in needed for my application but no one responded back but yet I get an email about being denied. Very nice looking community but VERY UNPROFESSIONAL !!!!!!
DO NOT EVER rent from The Canal Apartments or an apartment that is managed by UDR. My partner received a relocation out of state and so we put in our 60-day notice (as the lease requires) to move half a month early. We also paid in full the rest of our balance so that we would not be violating the terms in our agreement and would not be charged extra fees. Upon our move out and handing in the keys, we were told that we were good to go and that everything was complete on our end. When we placed our 60-day notice, the apartment took it upon themselves to prorate the month to mislead us on purpose to think we paid the full month (we had a concession of two months rent-free and have been dividing this out for the entire year). A week after we moved out, we were given a final bill of $3,700. This included liquidated damages, a reletting fee, and the rest of the remaining balance of a half month’s rent. We were not warned that they scammed us this way and were breaking our lease at the time of moving out. We have done everything from calling the apartment and emailing billing (they refused to give a phone number) to come up with a resolution as we were willing to pay the remaining month’s rent. My fiance traveled from out of state to talk to the apartment in person and no one was willing to work with us. They mentioned that if we were to turn in our keys at the original move-out date, we would have avoided all charges. All billing would respond to us with was a billing ledger from their end that had incorrect statements. When asked repeatedly to explain why these differed from our payment receipts, we were given no response. UDR and the Canal have the WORST customer service and they obviously do not care about residents or their reputation. All they care about is money, no matter who is at fault.
If you own a dog, there is a 100% chance it will be attacked while you live here. The management doesn't care about you or any problems you might have. As soon as you sign on they dont care about you.

After being a resident for 3+ years, I have experienced the transition in management from the new ownership. The property is not being taken care of. They don’t handle issues that are brought to them. While there is a laundry list of things, the main specific is how dark the property is. Nearly every street light is out. It feels extremely unsafe and it is horribly irresponsible of the property to continue to let this issue exacerbate further. It is nearly impossible to see pedestrians walking around at night.
