Uptown Portland is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Portland. The lively community spirit serves as a consistent draw for the neighborhood in addition to its unique historic charm and central locale. A broad mix of eclectic local businesses provides residents with tasty eats and entertainment options while quiet residential streets create a pleasant, small-town vibe.
Located just northwest of Downtown Portland and the popular Pearl District, Uptown Portland is a top choice for those seeking a short commute. Most spots in the neighborhood's residential areas are less than three miles from downtown, making a quick trip by bike or public transportation feasible.
Along with being close to downtown, the neighborhood has plenty of its own charms. Uptown Portland is often nicknamed Nob Hill, a nod to the upscale neighborhood in San Francisco.

Property Ratings at The Carson
As others have said, zero sound proofing. Upstairs neighbor makes constant noise at all hours of the night with pounding footsteps. 3-4x/week it sounds like they pick up their washing machine and slam it on the floor at 1-2 am... I have pleaded with the front office to help as I cannot get sleep - their only recommendation is to call the police, file a lawsuit to have them evicted (?), or pay 1.5x rent to break the lease. I just want sleep. Cannot wait to move out. Do not let the location and appearance of the complex tempt you into living in Carson South.

The Carson is beautifully designed and Slabtown is a great neighborhood. Unfortunately, the experience sold does not match the experience lived. The Carson South (the one facing New Seasons) is the least soundproof building I have ever lived in over 15 years of apartment living, including time in New York. My upstairs neighbor was loud and inconsiderate all hours of the day and night. My coworkers could hear his daily workout routine as it rattled my floors. My mother wears hearing aids. During a visit, he woke her up in the middle of the night when her hearing aids were charging because he was playing a movie so loudly. It was 3:30am. In 2 years I submitted 4 written complaints and numerous verbal complaints to the main office. Each complaint was met with, "we'll send a friendly reminder!". Meanwhile, my written complaints mentioned lost sleep, work interruptions, and emotional distress from the longstanding, unresolved issues. They did not care. One staff member made a point to remind me that he lived on my hall and also heard noise, suggesting that I was wrong to complain, I guess? My complaints were pleading and apologetic and I was left completely unhelped. After two years, the staff tried to say they had only received one complaint from me, ever, when written evidence proved false, but required me to contact their corporate office in California to discuss because the gaslighting was so severe. I also noticed other residents in distress in their main office from time to time, so I wasn't the only one struggling. I suffered this disruption for two years and paid for it in more ways than one (health, career, mental well being). The only solution was to move out. Beyond that issue, I (and others) had mail stolen multiple times from the Carson North package room. No communication was sent to acknowledge the issue or share a plan to stop it. When my door lock battery died, a maintenance worker no-showed three times without fixing it. When I reported my bathroom fan as broken, they argued with me that it was just "completely silent." Imagine my surprise when it suddenly turned on one year later with audible sound. Since moving out, it has become wildly clear how uncaring the staff was and how little they attempted to help residents. The difference is night and day. Humans aside, the apartment itself was gorgeous. Great design, the best lighting, flooring, windows. I miss the aesthetic, the neighborhood, and the rooftop... but nothing else.

We were so in love with the Carson when we toured it - beautiful apartments and a great location! But within weeks of moving in we quickly realized that the Carson is not what is seems. --The south building is not soundproof at all. Expect to get constant noise complaints for everything - closing doors, closing cabinets, walking, your dog playing with a toy. You can hear everything from your upstairs and next-door neighbors. -- The keyless entry system (Latch) constantly breaks, which can mean you don't have access to an elevator or the front door of the building won't open. -- There's a major theft issue. Bikes have been stolen from locked storage rooms more times than I can count, cars in the garage are broken into, and the package room has been raided. -- On-site management seems to be overwhelmed and is very unresponsive. There were multiple occasions where no one would answer the office phone during business hours and emails would sit without responses for days, if not weeks. -- The fire alarms go off all the time, meaning you have to evacuate the building at all hours of the day and night. I've sat outside in pjs and had to abruptly leave zoom meetings from fire alarms going off. -- Their moveout process is terrible. They also charge insane fees, a 1.5x rent and a 30 day notice fee.
