Property Ratings at The Chelsea Apartments
The building is so poorly structured, you hear every single step and movement happening next door, above you or even below you. There is no sound proof between the floors, the noise gets even enhanced and sounds bigger underneath. You live so close to your neighbor and it’s not comfortable. Water pipes are old and it has leaked four times. When there is an issue, they just patch and do an instant mending and never really fix the problem. There are termites in the building. They just spray where they see them and that’s it. The elevator often goes out of service. You have to wish it won’t stop working on your moving day. They enter your unit quite often. I’ve never experienced such frequent “inspections.” One time they unlocked the door and entered the room while I was sleeping. It was traumatically scary. Life here is not so pleasant and I do not recommend living here .
Stay away from renting at 1632 Formosa, Hollywood and any other property owned by these people. Apparently they own many units through out Hollywood and Los Angeles and operate under many different LLC company's so do your research. Every LLC they operate under has complaints against them as does the leasing agents and management working for them, you will be able to read for yourself. Too bad we didn't know to look into this prior to applying for an apartment they own. They are discriminatory against disabled people and do not have rent control. We applied for and were approved for an apartment that was perfect for our disability needs and what we had been looking for in Los Angeles for over 4 months. The management, leasing agent and owners chose to continue to take rental applications after our FICO and income was approved because the owners didn't want any more dogs in this particular building even though we have a legally registered service dog, it's still a dog in their eyes. We found out after being discriminated against that the owners had previously and suddenly raised the rent over $300.00 per unit per month in order to force pet owners and other tenants to move out. The owners and leasing department strung us along and lied to us for a week taking away our time, money and energy that we could have been putting into looking for another place to live. They needed someone else to come along quickly with a higher FICO score so they could legally deny us, it was the only way not to rent to us since we were approved with income and FICO. The leasing agent tried to shove us in another 2 bedroom unit in a different building that was not a fit for our disability needs and when we told her it wasn't a fit for us she was demeaning and down right cruel to us stating that "this isn't a restaurant business and even though you were approved first for the apartment you wanted, I wanted to give it to the other person who has a higher FICO and makes more money and wants an apartment like this because it's a nice place for her to sit and enjoy drinking her coffee on the private balcony". Then she kept trying to shove us in the other building again that allows service dogs because after all,we were already "approved". The stress from these people literally made us physically ill and has caused continuing distress in our lives. The unprofessionalism, rudeness and discrimination from all involved was truly inhumane to say the least.
Ladies and Gentlemen my apt gets 2 stars because my manager does the bare minimum to keep the building running. The reason I titled this piece "Was good while it lasted" is because my manager gave all of us a Rent Increase. Most think maybe 20- $100 rent increase. How about a $350 rent increase yall? Thats Right 1 rent increase = $350 more ! #Yikes ! MOSTLY EVERYONE MOVED OUT. I am probably the only person left that is not new. She cleared this Building lol. Not that many people are willingb to pay $1400 for a small 1 bd 1 bth! Now Apts.com is my best friend as I will find a better apt. MY LESSON: Rent Control is mandatory ! Thank you for allowing me to share?? -Kristina
