It's where Pocahontas was kidnapped in 1613 … and where George Washington lived as a child. Stafford, located along the Potomac River and including part of the Quantico Marine Corps Base, is located along I-95 about 40 miles southwest of Washington DC. Stafford, a large CDP with a population of about 4,400, is the county seat for Stafford County.

This fascinating town features several historic destinations, great shops and restaurants, and easy access to Quantico on its north end and historic Fredericksburg to the south. Accokeek Furnace Archeological Site is one of the area's historic sites, built around 1726. The Principio Company leased the land from George Washington's father, Augustine Washington.

Public Quarry at Government Island contains sandstone that was used to build the White House and the US Capitol building.

A place to live

Repairs are not done or half done. Neighbors are noisy. Some are really bad. Noise shakes the building. My neighbor blasts music and games until 2am. She uses a bass booster that shake the building and vibrates the floor. She yells constantly on the phone. There's no privacy. She's always snooping. A family of drug dealers was evicted last April, but their car is still there. Pets are not allowed. No laundry available. Water cuts off even when you're in the shower. Parking lot is full of potholes, and it's small to maneuver. My car has been hit several times. No one is responsible. It's extremely cold in winter and hot in summer. Only has one small unit in living room that doesn't cool but just in front of it. The bedroom is a sauna in the summer, freezing in winter. No a/c in bedroom or kitchen areas. Can't cook in summer as the heat would make the place already unbearable even hotter. Several Outlets don't work. Heater fan in bathroom doesn't work. The building has a bad smell. Any call for maintenance and they get angry with you. Cellphones don't work. I had to get internet to get wifi calling, and still can't text images. I can't afford to move right now.
