Property Ratings at The Commons at Cowan Boulevard
Moved out August 2021 with an email from the manager stating the balance was paid. Received a notice from a debt collector on 12/1/22 (16 months later). Called/emailed Cowan several times (even spoke to someone who was going to help). Logged an incident with Ascento corporate. My credit report is now damaged. If the manager was wrong and I had a balance, a phone call/email/post mail would have been nice. I haven't moved - was just trying to put my kid through college at UMW
I have lived here for almost 2 years and have truly enjoyed every second! What an amazing location, minutes from Central Park.. you can quite literally walk to just about anything you may possibly want or need. The neighborhood is upkept very nicely and my neighbors have all been respectful and courteous. The Office/Maintenance staff are always polite and accommodating.
Don't move in here. I'll be stuck here for another several months, but I've been trying to share my experience to help other people. On my move in day, they changed my apartment to a different one. I had all of my things packed and nowhere to go, and it looked the same (different utilities, no washer) so I took it. Then I found out there was a family of 5 above me being extremely loud each day. I had to pressure them for a month to get my original apartment, and had to move everything again. It was fine for 7 months until they landlady above me moved out. Apparently the management doesn't want to live here either. Then a replacement family with kids transferred for a "quieter apartment". They've been extremely noisy since. When you walk by in the morning you'll see a ton of refer a friend posters, and a large amount of families waiting for the school bus. The property is 75% families now. Apparently nobody wants to live with that, judging by the posters. Ask about when the trash was backed up for 3 weeks. Or the police that come nightly, and pull speeders into the neighborhood. Ask about the people who reverse into your car in the parking lot, then hide from insurance and change their parking space. Or don't, because whenever you try to talk to them they scoff and dismiss the issue. I never brought up any of this. Never called for months until recently. When I tried to get my new neighbors to quiet down a bit, they've ignored my calls and shrugged it off.

Great location and decent size, but of course rent went up about $60 every year. A/C and heating unit is in the middle of living room so when it's on it sounds like a plane is in your apartment. It can get loud!
I lived here for about two years in a 2 bedroom 1 bath. We very rarely had issues and when we did, maintenance responded really quickly to fix the problems. The maintenance guys work really hard to keep the complex in good order and the staff is always friendly and helpful, they even put on events for the kids during holidays like Halloween and Christmas. The apartments are clean and the area is very safe, between the police station and the hospital. It can get pretty noisy sometimes at night with loud music, people honking their horns, and neighbors fighting in the parking lot, but other than that it's a pretty decent place to live and I'm happy I found it.
The grounds are very well maintained, the pool is never crowded, staff is friendly. Some of the residents are.....unsavory.
