Property Ratings at The Commons at Garden Lake
If you are a homeless veteran, The Commons at Garden Lake is a GREAT alternative; otherwise, KEEP AWAY! Despite being a home strictly for veterans, your Second and Fourth Amendments do not apply here. Since the windows do not open all the way, the only fresh air you get during warmer seasons is when you leave. Your utilities are paid and all your furnishings (uncomfortable foam mattress on a twin metal bed frame, hard sofa and chair, appliances, cheap, easily breakable dishes, pans with the Teflon fragmenting into your food, worthless silverware, etc.) are provided, but many of the residents have found them useless and purchased their own. Toiletries are available upon request, but that is a secret. Except for the maintenance guy and occasionally the two-faced building manager, the aloof and nearly unapproachable staff act as if the residents are a major inconvenience. It's obvious they are not happy with their jobs and feel tortured if they have to do anything. All of the apartments are equipped the same, with the primary difference being size. The smelly elevator is dreadfully slow and the stairs cannot be used because the doors are locked (access to the various floors from the stairwell is prohibited). Sound penetrates the ceilings, floors and walls easily, so be grateful if you don't have a noisy neighbor above, below or anywhere else near you. The building seems to be primarily a temporary shelter for homeless veterans because everybody leaves as soon as they can - WITHOUT THEIR SECURITY DEPOSIT.
