Located about 65 miles northeast of Downtown Dallas, the rural city of Commerce is perhaps best known as the home of Texas A&M University – Commerce, one of the state’s oldest institutions of higher learning. The university serves around 12,000 students, compared to the city’s permanent population of around 8,500, so it is fair to say that college culture is a major part of everyday life in Commerce. The campus dominates the west side of town, with a small downtown district located a few blocks to the northeast hosting a thriving dining and nightlife scene.
Known as the Bois d’Arc Capital of Texas, the community’s most popular event is arguably the annual Bois d’Arc Bash, an autumn celebration incorporating concerts, barbecue cook-offs, a parade, and street vendors. The local rental market features a mix of apartments and houses suitable for a variety of budgets and lifestyles.

Property Ratings at The Corners
If you're a single parent or family, a new college student or a familiar face to the City of Commerce looking for a new place to stay, I strongly suggest you seek a living arrangement elsewhere. The Corners at Commerce - while conveniently located within walking distance to the university (Texas A&M - Commerce) and in an area where nothing of danger occurs - is an apartment complex with poor management, poor maintenance and poor grounds keeping. During my stint in this apartment complex, the majority of the maintenance issues that I brought up to management went unnoticed. However, in the event they did stop by my apartment to see and fix a maintenance issue, they did so on their own time. Therefore, I ended up taking care of the majority of the maintenance issues I had with money out of my own pocket. When it comes to maintenance issues, or any other issue regarding this apartment complex, management is not very approachable. Its worth pointing out that management is only on-site three of the seven days of the week, and that they point you to 911 or to their voicemails (which they don't return) in case of an emergency. With the exception of building C and the first portion of building A - which caught fire in recent years - the apartments at The Corners at Commerce are old with outdated appliances. The outside of the apartment complex - parking lot, grass area, etc. - is maintained whenever management feels the need to do so. In closing, do not rent at The Corners at Commerce or at any property within Commerce city limits that is owned by the family that runs them. While the price is affordable for most, the issues I've mentioned in this review are not worth your time, stress or headaches. I strongly urge you to rent from other landlords who are on-site, listen to your concerns, and have a well-rounded maintenance team ready to help.
Property Manager at The Corners, Responded To This Review
This review sounds spot on for 2019 - however, we just purchased the property in late January 2020. The Corners is now part of Tower Stone Properties and we own and/or manage some of the best maintained properties in Commerce. The Corners now has 24/7 maintenance service, a full time management office, online portal for rent payments and more. We'll be adding amenities over the next few months and upgrading the apartments as we rent them, while keeping them affordable. Come by and check it out - the difference will be noticeable!
The apartments on Mayo Street are conveniently located right next to Texas A&M University-Commerce. I've been living here for six months and I have had very few problems. The biggest issue is the biggest hassle is getting maintenance to come fix things but that's only because they have one person and over 50 properties for them to work on. Rent is affordable at $700 a month, I have seen little to no bugs, and for all utilities it totals to about 80 a month. These two bedroom 1 1/2 bath townhomes are the best deal for your money in commerce Texas.
