One of Detroit's popular inner-ring suburbs, Southfield delivers a distinctly urban atmosphere uncommon to communities of its size. The city holds a place as one of the most important commercial centers in Lower Michigan – the large Southfield Town Center business complex (also known as the “Golden Triangle”) serves as the daily workplace for thousands and hosts conferences year-round. The community is popular for folks who work in the local business sector, but with downtown Detroit just fifteen miles away, Southfield is a convenient option for commuters as well.
The city offers extensive facilities for both indoor and outdoor sports from golf to ice hockey, giving folks ample opportunities to stay active year-round. The city’s art scene largely revolves around Park West Gallery, a first-rate venue that houses a diverse selection of exhibits and frequently hosts art auctions as well.

Property Ratings at The Crossroads At Southfield Apartments
This place is so shady they had to rename the whole complex to avoid the bad reviews. Formally called knob in the woods and nothing has really changed. But know that once you move in the rent will increase 20% every year without any improvements to the complex. Last year the pool was only open for a few weeks, we have no security, there is dog poop everywhere, the power goes out days at a time and they do everything they can to get the people that have been here for years to move out so they can jake up the rent

The size of the apartments are great and the renovations are nice! However, it is very difficult to reach someone by phone and they were slow to respond to voicemails or messages. When they do respond they are polite and friendly though.

Every year, more than half of the communities air conditioners stop working. They NEVER FIX them. Going on 3 years now so it's not just a one time or one year thing. Thank goodness we are almost always away from home in the days. There may as well be no maintance here because they never help unless they are turning a unit for prospects. Here because of the previous owners. We had NO issues with things like that and if there was an issue they would at least come out to fix it. Currently looking to move! They go up on rent hundreds if dollars each year since taking over. RUN!

These people have very poor customer service! They just recently took over these apartments from Hartman and Tyner and their way of conducting business IS condescending, rude, snooty and horrible all together. I should have left a review the first time I got locked out of my apt and called the emergency number 15 times and left 15 messages, with no one to return the car ever! I had to have someone pick me up from outside of the apartment and spend the night elsewhere. I later that next morning went to the leasing office to complain. About a month later I locked myself out again and the exact same thing happened. I just recently called in to ask about the rent and how we were to pay the remaining balance of the illegally taxed on money that they added to everyone’s rent prior to. This was actually on the news. I was told that it needed to be paid and that’s that. No patience no explanation no professional tones, just rudeness. Since then I have tried to contact the office but every time I call with out calling private they don’t answer. I wait 10 minutes and call from a number that is being recorded such as apartments . com and boom, they answer everytime because they think it's another prospect. They are trying to kick/run everyone out who was there before they took over so that they can raise the rent to ridiculous prices. They only reason I haven't packed up yet is because I dont have the time to deal with the move right now. Save yourself major issues and disappointments and look elsewhere!!!! Oh yea, you can forget about a work order. Not happening.

Thank you for your review. We are very disappointed that we've failed to deliver the experience you expect. Please take a moment to contact us so we can discuss your concerns. Sincerely, Knob in the Woods
I only went on a tour of this place and it was an automatic NO for me. The 2 girls in the leasing office are extremely rude and unprofessional. They should really consider giving their staff customer service courses because they lack it. Nobody ever answers the phone. They just listen to ring and don’t even bother to pick it up. The model that they show you is disgusting. Dust every where in the bathroom the tubs and toilets were filthy. No way that model should be shown off without being cleaned. Based off of my experience and reading these horrible reviews I would not recommend this place. I was completely turned off by the whole experience
WORST ever apartment experience. I agree the rent is less compared to other apartments in the area but are you willing to sleep in an oven over the summer and a freezer during the winter? Over my stay of 1 year, we didn't have the AC unit working till the very last month and our windows were leaking. Pathetic maintenance and management. Multiple work orders were placed but they failed to repair the apartment. and in end justification given by the property owner is that AC is not a necessity. Please spend a few 100 dollars more and get yourself a better apartment where you get peace of mind.

I have been living at Knob in the woods for 7 months now. Here are my pros and cons to this apartment complex. Location wise it is easily accessible to two major freeways 696 and the lodge which I love! The three stores I use the absolute most (Dollar Tree, Dollar general, and Kroger) are 5-7 minutes away. Parking is fair its not hard for me to find a spot right in front of my building I don't see the need to get a car port really but they are available. The living space is very spacious I love having a huge living room since I am very family orientated. there are two bathrooms with one being in my room which is full. I love my walk in closet with an additional closet also in the room. The office staff are considerably nice. They have a payment plan available for when your experiencing tough times. However, the apartment is very outdated. My bathroom mirror is stained all across the bottom with some sort of black residue in addition to sin cabinet doors not closing. The shower door in the second bathroom is off track and for some odd reason the both toilets have had issues flushing. I have gone to open drawers and the handles will come right off. The thermodynamics of the place seem to be off also for in the master bedroom during the fall time the master bedroom is extremely cold when the heat is on low. Now that it is summer I've turned the heat off the house is still hot between 70-77 degrees. Overall I do not plan to renew my lease. If you are looking to move in this place in December you can have mine.

Thank you for your feedback. We are always looking to make improvements to the community and your opinions are welcome. I appreciate your positive comments on our staff and glad that you enjoy the location, amenities, and generous size of the apartment. Please contact the local office to report any issues so we can get maintenance out to resolve them and check the vents for better consistent heating and cooling. Thank you for taking the time to review Knob in the Woods Apartments.
They say to bring Maintenance issues to their attention but it’s rather pointless when they don’t answer the phone or your emails for weeks! We have electricity issues, plumbing issues and even raccoons living in the attic for over a month now (that we noticed them. Who knows how long they’ve been up there) And has critter control even come out yet?? Nope. Been a month and nothing. Neighbors told me a couple years ago there were skunks in the attic, stunk the entire building up and it took 4 months for them to finally do something. Complete neglect. I hope they get in trouble.

Thank you for your feedback and we hope to use this information to address these concerns. We don’t want to give excuses because we do value your opinion and will try to address your concerns in a timely manner going forward.
Lived here for a year and a half. Maintenance is a straight up joke. Waiting months for requests to get filled. And they’re not small requests either. My neighbors and I have had everything from mold to things falling apart, toilets coming out of walls, animals living in the attic and they DO NOT CARE! If you manage to get a maintenance guy over (it takes weeks sometimes months just for them to come if at all) they do such horrible sloppy work! We unfortunately have to stay here and finish the lease but this place is horrible. Don’t be fooled by the large space. It’s nice to look at but when you have serious maintenance issues like a hot water heater busting and not having hot water for 3 days because they take their sweet time coming to fix it. They do not care. People have to beg to get carbon monoxide detectors in their apartments. Something that by law, is required in every apartment. And the office staff and especially the maintenance staff are not only rude, but incompetent! It’s a shame they can’t find people that care and that can do the job professionally because the apartment itself is nice. They just don’t know how to treat people and answer Maintenance requests in a timely fashion. The building is old and you can tell they just put “bandaids” on everything and what they need is inspectors to come look at every one of these apartments because they’ll find most will not even be up to code!!! Our buzzer broke almost a year ago and they will not be fixing it. They basically tried to come up with a decent lie and say they were shopping for contractors but it wouldn’t be any time soon because they would have do re do the entire structure. So?? I still pay the same amount of rent and I have no buzzer and you’re not even a gated community anymore. The gate broke and they even said they are not getting that fixed either. So they still charge the same amount of rent and they no longer are a gated community and the buzzer will never be fixed so why should I still pay the same rent if they’re not offering the same services???? A bunch of bull. Horrible service, horrible people to be honest. I wonder how they’d like it if the roles were reversed.
Property Manager at The Crossroads At Southfield Apartments, Responded To This Review
Thank you for your feedback. I can understand your frustration, but please continue to call in any maintenance requests and we will do our best in the future. Please contact the office at 248.353.9050 with any concerns as we do care and want to resolve any issues.
Well I have enjoyed living here it will be 2 years in Nov, 2015. The apt are hidden away, the two bedroom 2 bath is very spacious. Maintenance is very prompt when something is needed. The rent is very reasonable for what you get. I moved in on a special after that year it only went up 40.00. If you have small children the bus picks them up in the complex. It's a quiet place to raise a family. You won't regret moving here.
I have been living here for 6 months. I just bought a new BBQ grill 2 weeks ago. I left my grill on the porch alone with 2 other grills. When I got home from work today some random group of people from the building next door was using my grill. They scattered when i got home and left the grill smoking without even putting the fire out. This is totally rude and ridiculous! First thing in the morning i am going to the leasing off and I hope the take care of this issue!!!
The apt. looks nice but once you move in you will find out looks are not everything. the maintenance dept. is horrible. I put in several request last year and the problems in my apt. still are not fixed. I went above the maintenance depts head to a property manager that's over several of Hartman and Tyner Apts. and he was very rude and talked to me as if I were a child. He then promised me he would send the maintenance manager to take a look at my apt. right away and everything would be fixed. Well that was a month ago and still counting. I'm talking serious issues like the water from the dish washer is running under the carpet and the carpet has a strong mildew odor, bathrooms with constant plumbing problems, bugs you can't identify, spiders that occupy more space then you do, constant noise and random strangers in the basement area smoking weed! These people that don't even live in this apt. complex. This have been reported several times also. A small fix to this problem is to put a lock on the basement door. Well still waiting for that to happen, so I don't use my laundry room at night time anymore. When You see this place do yourself a favor and keep driving! It's not cheap to live in Knob In the Woods and you have to pay all utilities including water. The swimming pool is hardly ever open and is in need of major repairs like the water stinks and the bottom of the pool feels like sandpaper. None of the security gates work and these gates are supposed to keep people that don't live here off the property! Random strangers bring car loads of kids to swim in the pool and then leave! Leaving behind pop bottles and trash every where. The Security rover that's supposed to drive around the property at night is usually in the back of the property in his car sleeping. So with all that said the inside of the apts. is bad and the outside is not any better. Save yourself the trip, I promise you will be better off somewhere else!
I have been a part of Knob In The Woods Apts for nine years and I have enjoyed every day of living here. The apartments are very spacious, and the upkeep of the property is truly amazing!! A great place to call home!
Nice area and complex- kept up and good neighbors.
they don't care about their residence very much. it takes them weeks to come and check out any problems that's going on the apartment which can only be repaired by them.
I have 1475 square feet of space, not bad for a two bedroom apartment, this is as large as some houses. I have wonderful adult clean community a wonderful gym and pool. I rate this complex with a 10...
The Office staff is very unprofessional, slow to resolve any issues, work orders take weeks to be processed, the office will go above and beyond to sell you, but once you move in its totally different, I believe if fox2 problems solvers were to get involved with the corporate office some things might change... starting with the firing of the entire office staff and replacing them, with qualified people.
Overall, this community and management team are less than average. The office and maintenance teams are very slow to respond to issues. I moved here because of the low rent for the area, but I've had better living experiences at other Southfield apartments. I would not recommend to others.
Spacious apartments/quiet surroundings/very affordable. .
