In the 1890s, the most fashionable neighborhood in Los Angeles was Bunker Hill. Filled with elegant Victorian homes and sophisticated stores for the socialites and trend-setters who lived in the neighborhood, Bunker Hill was filled with LA's sparkle and glitter. That changed in the early 1920s, when the neighborhood's location -- perched on a hill in the city -- began to be seen as an impediment to growth rather than an asset. In addition, the elevation of the entire neighborhood was lowered, a tunnel was built through the area, and the neighborhood became overcrowded due to the ever-expanding city.
The neighborhood was nearly forgotten until recently, when it began to emerge as one of LA's trendy neighborhoods once again. The neighborhood escaped much of the city's redevelopment, so many of the older structures still remain. This trendy neighborhood is home to some fantastic venues, as well, such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Broad, and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Property Ratings at The Emerson
The staff make this place special. They treat you like family and address any issues in your unit like its their own unit. Everything you need to host friends/family (pool, grills, billiards, TV in common areas). Everything feels new, clean, well-maintained. And blemishes disappear overnight. Nestled on Bunker Hill, elevated and isolated from the grimier pockets of DTLA, with proximity to DTLA hallmark museums, concert halls. Strongly recommend for anyone who works downtown. Wish I didn't have to leave.

I am often approached in the lobby of the building by prospective residents as to what it's like to live in the Emerson. I usually ask them have you ever stayed in a five star hotel and if so you know what it's like to live in the Emerson. The staff has been chosen with such care that each of them make you feel part of a larger family. The building is inviting, there are areas for residents to come and meet have coffee, tea and just relax. The pool, the grounds, and all the amenities are top rate. Having been here since January I have a good feel of the building and the residents and it is very rare that you pass someone in the hallways and they don't greet you and know you by name. I love living here and I urge you to come by and see what a special place the Emerson is. And to their credit, the Emerson management has not forgotten our veterans, or our disabled citizens and those less fortunate and allowed a small number to live within the complex. A community is not a single color but a beautiful kaleidoscope and the Emerson has tried it's best to create a community within the walls of our building.
