Vibrant and historic Downtown Syracuse is much more than the city's hub. The cobblestone streets, wide sidewalks, and stately brick buildings create a fantastic shopping and dining district, while the neighborhood's proximity to Syracuse University adds a student dynamic. At the heart of Downtown Syracuse, Armory Square -- a large collection of historic warehouses and the armory that's now a museum -- is the city's nightlife hotspot. The Armory contains a large concentration of restaurants and bars as well as several unique shops.
Some of Downtown Syracuse's most beloved landmarks include the Clinton Square Ice Rink, the Museum of Science and Technology, and the historic Landmark Theatre. The ornate theater, decorated in rich red and gold, first opened in 1928. Another landmark, the McCarthy Building, was built in 1894 and is the oldest building in Syracuse.

Property Ratings at The Empire Building
This apartment has been the cleanest place I’ve ever lived. The maintenance really keep everything clean. They are very proactive so nothing gets dirty ever. They have many things to help with convenience (vacuum cleaners, dolly's for moving, shopping cart to carry up large groceries and pet supplies). I’ve also locked myself out and a quick text was able to get me back in my room. The staff and the owner are always on top of everything! If there’s ever a place to justify luxury apartment prices in Syracuse it is here!
Stayed in a single bedroom for 1 year with my fiancé. Manager/owner and his team are detail oriented, tech savvy, hard-working, and always looking to improve. I personally observed the owner on multiple occasions: Snow plowing and shoveling around and between cars. Going up and down S Salina St picking up all litter. Bartending at his new barbershop/in building bar with resident back door entrance and deals. He routinely performs intensive maintenance and security checks and is very easy to get in contact with. Intangible features of the complex include: “Real” huge marble/granite countertops for hot plate usage. Very spacious storage units in basement. Barbells in the gym. Pre-setup individual apt internet with ethernet port and wifi access. Security cameras covering all building entrances, parking lot, and hallways. Moving dollys. If we didn’t need to move for work we would definitely be staying here longer term.
I highly recommend The Empire Building. We lived there for about 18 months and really enjoyed the short commute to downtown restaurants and nightlife. The 7th floor corner apartment also offered a nice view. Key points: - Always felt safe in the building and gated parking lot - Quiet environment/atmosphere (Not a party building) - Short, 5-minute commute to Syracuse University - Storage space in the basement (complimentary for military) - Parking lot always plowed early in the winter - Responsive maintenance/property manager
My boyfriend and I lived here for 2 years and it was nothing short of amazing! Great starter place for a couple who enjoy having fun once in a while, the location was perfect walking distance for all the downtown restaurants and bars and not too far from the best grocery store Wegmans! The management is ALWAYS on top of any issues immediately and it is definitely the best taken care of Apartment I’ve ever lived in. If we didn’t recently just start growing our family we definitely would’ve stayed! 10/10 recommended!!
I lived at Empire for one year while a resident at Upstate Medical Center. This place was great with beautiful apartments located downtown and very close to the hospital. I lived in a one bedroom apartment with a den which had a lot of space. The building was quiet and I rarely ever heard much noise from neighbors. Management was very friendly and did a wonderful job keeping the common areas of the building very clean and were incredibly responsive to any issues/concerns that came up. I would highly recommend living here for anyone looking to live in the downtown area. It's close to Armory Square where there are multiple restaurants and bars that are easily in walking distance. Amazing experience overall and highly recommend!
The Empire building is by far the best apartment I have stayed at since living on my own. Although my time here was only a few months, it was a great experience. 1 bedroom apartment has a lot of space and is very well kept. The staff were nothing but helpful and very hands on when it came to any issues. I would highly recommend this building to anyone new to the Syracuse area!!!
I stayed in the Empire Building in downtown Syracuse for 15 months with my wife and two kids while on military assignment at Syracuse University. The Empire Building is always brightly lit with a very appealing lobby. My family and I felt safe and secure at all times. The building is right in the middle of downtown, which makes it convenient for those who attend Syracuse University or work at the hospital. The location is several blocks away from Clinton Square with many options for restaurants and eateries; also a perfect start point for all the downtown events (concerts, hockey games, festivals, etc). I made frequent use of the gym in the basement, which is fantastic given the long Syracuse winter. The storage unit in the basement is a great addition for those with a lot of personal belongings to store. Derek (the owner), Jason and Logan (property managers) were very responsive to all issues and requests. I got my full security deposit back a week after move out (the formula is simple; make the best attempt to leave the apartment unit in the same clean condition you found it when moved in). Awesome experience overall; highly recommended!
I lived at the Empire Building for a little over a year (before moving to the suburbs) and absolutely loved it! Beautiful, clean, quiet building. Great location, walking distance to everything downtown. I always felt very safe in the building, and when parking in the fully fenced/gated attached parking lot (which only tenants have access to). The management team were always wonderful- friendly, professional and addressed any concern that I had immediately. The apartment itself was beautiful. Before choosing the Empire Building, I toured several other (similarly and higher priced) apartment buildings in the city and none could compare to the Empire Building. Even down to the little details like the under the cabinet kitchen and bathroom lighting, huge windows, video doorbell/intercom system (so you can see your guests outside the building before buzzing them in), secure attached parking lot, etc. I received my full security deposit back (within a day or 2) when I moved out. It was the perfect place for my dog and I when we lived downtown! And if I ever decided to live downtown again, I would happily move back to this building! Highly recommend!!!
