Property Ratings at The Fairmont
We filled out all the paperwork and we’re ready to sign the lease, but asked to take measurements because the floor plan they sent us did not reflect the remodeled unit. On our way, they rented the unit to someone else. Wow, talk about snakes in the grass! Also be weary when they tell you heat/ac included; they leave out that the unit is run by electric fan, which tenant pays for and can be @ additional $200 a minth. Renter beware!
My boyfriend and I have lived at the Glenwood for a little over a year in a 1br with a balcony. Although the amenities are slightly dated, it has everything we need: 24hr doormen, package room, laundry room, bike/additional storage, rooftop, and gym. The building is quiet and we almost never hear our neighbors. The neighborhood is also great with easy access to restaurants, shopping and the train. The building staff are very friendly and extremely helpful (rare in NYC). I would recommend living here to anyone.
I like the assistance provided to me .it was fast and attent . Im making My appointmwnt on july .
The doormen and men who run the package room here are wonderful and without a doubt the best thing about the building. The public areas are immaculate and having a driveway is very convenient. The facilities are older and there are frequent plumbing issues. The heating and air conditioning are ancient and break often, Getting them repaired is time consuming. It is the same with kitchen appliances. The building sends "handymen" who know very little to fix everything and replaced units after only 6 to 8 weeks of attempting repairs. The laundry room machines are new but they don't clean clothes well despite the fact the room is closed for a day every other month for maintenance. The mailboxes are small and mail frequently crushed. The playroom is well used but they don't have any toys and there are no evening hours or opportunities to use it for private parties. The gym is small but clean. It does not open until 6 AM. The rent is comparable with "luxury" buildings and goes up 3-5% every year. There is a fire station on 75th Street and subway construction on 2nd Ave, in addiition to bus traffic.
Thought this was such an amazing building when we first visited. After living here for almost two years, I can tell you that the drilling and the back office management are the absolute worst. Not only are the staff in the building office (not the rental office but the Fairmont building management) rude and terrible to deal with but the drilling in the building is borderline unbearable (actually, unbearable). It is virtually impossible to be in the building throughout the day because the noise is so loud. Louder than my television! You can't hear anything when talking on the phone or to another person in your apartment. I have had to leave just to make phone calls to friends and family. Don't even think about attempting to work from home at all. Building management has historically told tenants that this would be temporary but it is well over a year and every time I think it is almost over, it starts up again. This is an absolute nightmare and not worth the rents that they ask in this building. Period. Live somewhere else - you will be happier for it.
